Miami's OL wasn't good in 08 either. My point is not that Henning is better than Schott, but that he's had both good and bad moments like every OC you could think of. And until Schott coaches a better than 15th ranked offense in the NFL I am yet to be impressed by the "hot coaching candidate".

    henning is horrible

he makes way too many questionable decisions

the only reason he still has a job is because he is parcells friend

Name an OC that doesn't make questionable decisions occasionally.

I knew you'd say something like that. Fact of the matter is he's a middle of the pack play caller just like Schott until proven otherwise.

Pretty fitting for the idiotic Dolphin fan base to call him out after a 400+ yard game though isn't it...

I think this thread shows how ignorant most nfl fans are in general when it comes to offensive coordinators. News Flash: not every play is going to go for 5+ yards. It's stupid for Dolphin fans to bash Henning for a 400 yard game against one of the best defenses in the nfl. Same for Jets fans with Schotty. Some how, Schotty is a terrible coordinator when we had the #1 rushing attack last year even with a rookie quarterback.

Somehow, even though the majority of trick plays went for good yardage, we need to stop running trick plays whenever a single trick play doesn't work. Somehow, Schotty is the worst OC because a Jet quarterback hasn't thrown for 300+ yards (worst statistic ever). Somehow, the story got changed to whenever Rex gets involved with the offense, the offense gets better; even though Rex was the one who simplified the offense and made Sanchez play scared.

Although I haven't read the opinions of other fans, I would guess that it's the same throughout the league. Fans just need to understand that not every play is going to work, and that sometimes you should credit the opposing defense instead of blaming the offense.

You give Kellen Clemens way too much credit.

I have always liked Henning. I don't know why Marshall was not even running routes in that last series. Was he just happy to draw two DBs or was he sulking about not being part of the play?

He was probably gassed after running up and down the field on us all day in the humid Miami heat.

    LOL

That's a good point, that must have been Rex's strategy all along. Rex must have read the Art of War.

Good post, and I agree. The OC tends to be the scapegoat when the fans think the O is underperforming. Sometimes the fans are right, but more often it's usually just a scapegoating exercise.

I used to get down on Hackett for being too conservative, but I did have that little voice in my head that got louder and louder as time went on that Hackett was working with a Qb who could not throw the out pass, so I had to recognize it was not all on Hackett.

Doesn't mean I liked him, though. Heh.

sorry, but rank in total offense is a point that's brought up over and over and doesn't really hold as much weight as you might think.

The league leaders in offensive almost always give up quite a few points. They win or try to win by outscoring teams. Most of those teams are also pass heavy, and do not run anywhere as much. So if you're a running team with a defensive emphasis, of course you're not going to rank as high up as a team that airs it out 50 times a game so they can put 30 points....due to the fact they know their defense will give up 20. Their time of possession is also less because they move the ball quicker on drives, giving up more possessions and opportunities for yardage.

can't have it both ways really. that isn't our identity as a team. so use that as a sole barometer isn't really fair. We're a defensive football team and always will be. The offensive will put up points, but it won't be in a reckless manner or play like the greatest show on turf. 3rd down efficiency, # of giveaways, and red zone percentages will be the truest indicators of how good the offense is.

Henning was brilliant on Sunday Night. There are certain fans on FH that just bitch about anything and everything, and cannot remain objective during a loss. That's why I sometimes avoid that site after a loss. The doom and gloom on there is unreal.

I don't get what you're saying here. There is no rule that says we can't have both a good offense and defense. Are you giving Schotta pass because our D is good or something?

Actually when you think about it having the number 1 defense last year was quite an accomplishment considering our offense. I know we had the number 1 rushing offense too but normally a higher turnover ratio would be necessary.

When we get our D back 100% and this offense keeps playing like it should and most certainly can it's pretty scary how good we really can be. Rex was without a doubt not blowing smoke up Anyones ass

    I'm a true believer!!

Miami's Ol was more than good in 2008.

Schottenheimer has had different circumstances each year, this is the first year since he has been here that he has the same starting QB 2 years in a row- that's a pretty big factor.

My family is good friends with the Hennings. I would always support The Jets and whichever team Dan was with. As soon as I learned he went with Parcells to Miami, I told my dad to tell Dan he was dead to me.
