So they're taking the Confederate flag down. Seems like a typical reactionary thing to do. Damn racist democrats never shoulda raised that thing in the first place. Hell, if we're going to ban all the things that remind us of slavery, how about we start with the Democrat party?

I personally don't care one way or another on the thing except the fact that we probably shouldn't be making too many decisions based on the way nut cases think. It seems to give their crazed views undeserved legitamacy. just my opinion.

Tell you what. You can have your Confederate flag. Which of course to a lot of people stands for slavery. Including the Mayor of Charleston and a lot of people who've been trying to get rid of it for years. You can add Jeb Bush to that list since he got rid of it in Florida. But you have to give up your machine guns and assault weapons. Sorry if I got the name wrong. You know those little fun things that can mow down a bunch of people in a short period of time. Lots of fun. Of course that would be infringing on your freedoms. That's too bad.

Sorry for that little bit of fascism. Actually, not really sorry at all.

Funny how these rifles that are for "self-defense" are called assault rifles.

Self defense. When did you ever have to kill a hundred people. Unless your goal is to join a militia and go to war against the government.

    The Purge.
    When the Russians eventually invade.

The term is political and has no real definition. The guns aren't actually called "assault rifles".

here's where somebody pipes in with the bit about how much damage you can do with a double barreled shotgun.

The chinaman is not the issue, dude. Also, chinaman is not the preferred nomenclature.

In Ontario we have ammo limitations. I believe it's three shells per shotgun and like 7 bullets per rifle. Yes a lot can be done with a double barrel. But I think the issue and what PCL is campaigning against is these 20 shot magazines that allowed the guy in Newtown to mow down a classroom without reloading. (sidenote I know this guy in SC reloaded during this attack)

Well the issue is citizens have no personal need to have their own weapons of mass destruction. Assault rifles, machine guns, atomic bombs, you name it. If we're going to live together in a society there have to be some logical givebacks. It doesn't stop everything, there will be people like that Chinese dude. But you don't need these weapons and you shouldn't have them. Guns-you have a right to possess. But there have to be rules and regulations. You have them with vehicles: registrations, driving tests, etc. Guns and cars can be pretty dangerous without them.

So what does that have to do with the guy who shot up the church with a .45? Further, what does it have to do with the overwhelming majority of the gun violence in this country? All types of rifles combined accounts for a small fraction.
