I'm sure ISIS would love that brilliant idea too. Guns on airplanes. We could have a shoot-em-up. In the air.

Dude, do you even read (like the link)...or follow the news.

    Guns/Pilots/Hardening the cockpit...it's already happening....

Of course it wouldn't have been necessary had Linda, wife of then Senate Majority leader Tom Daschle, not successfully lobbied against the one of the recommendations of the Gore commission to install harder access points to the cockpit..(weight/fuel)

Look, a few pages ago one of our more "intelligent" posters suggested guns on airplanes. That's what I thought you meant. If not, sorry.

    Dude,

    There are guns on Airplanes.

The arm all the passengers thing, was funny because as the other poster beat me to it, that's a fairly famous quote from All in the Family...and Dierking can hardly be confused with Archie Bunker....lol

Yeah Marshalls (if they're on the flight have them). Is it operational yet for pilots which is not a bad idea. Except you wouldn't want your pilot involved in a gun battle. Also my observation on flights is that these guys do sometimes leave the cockpit. And go to the restroom, etc. On one flight I saw the flight attendants put up a barrier but actually it would have been pretty easy to time it and possibly with force enter the cabin. That other guy did say you should have guns everywhere. And then flights included. And I think he meant it.

My question to you is: I'm assuming you're for no rules or regulations on guns, right. And open access: you can take your gun everywhere. Public places, etc. Are you against bringing a gun anywhere? Like, for example, a plane?

My concern about guns. If there are going to be millions of guns, easy to acquire, and you can take them everywhere like the NRA is preaching. What about gun accidents. People being accidentally killed or maimed. If you come home and they're on a table and loaded. Not everyone is going to be smart about it and practice gun safety. Also what about disputes in a household where people lose their cool. And there's a gun around and someone grabs it and kills someone. And if it wasn't there no loss of life. And now in Texas students can bring guns on campus. So what if a kid is high, goes to his class, hates his teacher and shoots him. My daughter was accepted last year at UT-Austin. I'm glad she isn't going there.

What if a guy at home loses his cool and stabs his wife?

and why would the law against carrying on campus stop a guy who wants to kill his teacher?

This is very true. But guns are faster. It's not as easy to stab someone to death etc. to me if a gun is loaded and close by it's more dangerous than a knife. Btw if you're for guns everywhere including college campuses. How's about at Jets games. Especially on Monday nights. And against New England.

I didn't say I wanted them everywhere but I'm not worried about the guy with a concealed carry I'm worried about the psycho pussy who doesn't care about the law and will open fire on law abiding citizens because he knows they are unarmed

I don't know. Numerically there aren't that many of these monsters. But having everybody walking around with a piece to me is scary.

Planes, no. (that whole cabin pressure thing....(and to your earlier posit the pilot/crew carry thing has been operational for several years)

As for the rest, I see no logical reason to prohibit carrying in most places, absent opportunities for things like assassination etc...Courts Gov't bldgs etc

But in general, concealed and or open carry should be the generally accepted practice...Teachers should be afforded the same opportunity as Pilots, for instance.

to be fair, As much as I believe in Natural rights, especially self defense, my opinion may be colored by the fact that I am well trained in the use of firearms, but also believe that most inclined to that sort of violence take pause at the fact of their possible demise.

Some admittedly are committed to offing themselves at the conclusion of the act to be sure,

But MOST...are captured alive. They don't want to get shot, and pick laces where they won't...

    Predators prefer easy prey.

What about Jets vs New England on a Monday night at Met Life. 65000 people 65000 guns. How many survive?

A gun is not that much more dangerous than a knife.

A knife is silent, and just as quick...

    Anonymity is security.

You just need less balls to commit the act with a gun.
    The Darwin principle applies.

I actually read his manifesto and didn't understand it.
Too me he sounded like another lost angry white guy who feels threaten by someone who is suppose to be "inferior" to him.

I guess you're referring to me. Just trying to get the opposite POV since I'm not into the gun culture. And thanks to Hobbes for being a gentleman about it. I threw a few jokes into it for fun (like 65000 fans and 65000 guns) but it's true this is an issue I don't pretend to have answers on. I'm for 2nd Amendment rights. But with rules, regulations and esp. background checks. And not the kind they have in South Carolina. As for public carrying. Philosophically I'm against it. I never wanted to live in the Wild, Wild West. But if church goers a few nights ago had been armed no bloodbath except for the kid. He'd be the only one dead. I know one thing, though. When you even try to discuss this issue people (esp. gun lovers) get really pissed off.

that's not true. even if they had been armed, it isn't as if they would have just opened fired on him as he walked in the church, before he had a chance to draw and fire. He simply would have waited until they weren't paying attention and began. He probably would have killed them the same in that immediate group. the only difference is perhaps he would have been killed by the other members of the church as he tried to flee -- if those people were carrying. More guns likely doesn't stop this shooting, just his subsequent survival.

the media is fueling racial strife in this country. this is the result. the availability of guns makes it possible to pull murders like this off but the media is fueling the hate, anger and animosity between races that is instigating the desire to lash out violently.
