Thomas Jones was replaced by LaDainian Tomlinson. LT was our starter last year. Greene was the complimentary back.

LT is one of the best backs to ever play the game. Calling him a third down back by trade is dumb as fuck.

The offense doesn't run the ball enough to give two backs 15 or more carries a game. A lot like this quoted segment, our offensive scheme is dumb as fuck.

    Well said.

This place after a loss is just a clusterfuck of retards who use their library internet access to post mindless bullshit.

Lt WAS one of the best backs to ever play the game. He isn't any more.

LT was never meant to replace TJ. The Jets just got lucky last year that LT still had fuel left in the tank. I don't think many people expected him to perform like he did last year. Greene was meant to be the #1 because of his performance in the 2009 season.

WTF? You smoking dicks or something? 61 yards on 13 attempts with a long of 8 yards = disappointment? Go light yourself on fire.

Trying to figure out the thought process of creating a thread the day after a brutal loss devoted to killing our RB who averaged better than 4.5 yards per fucking carry - he was one of the few who carried his weight last night.

The beginning of the season Greene was a disapointment---now? No way

they don't give him the ball nearly enough and take him out almost every single time they get inside the 10 yard line!

ps I wish they would stop throwing it to him and let him run the ball

I never blamed Green for last night's loss. I am talking about his entire body of work.

Ever since they went back to ground and pound he's shown the ability to be a lead back, so what are you basing your conclusion off of?

Very few backs could've run well with our o-line the first few games of the year.

Plain and simple; as the year goes on you will see Greene get more carries. I would like to see 18-25 rushes a game from him. WIth our Defense and bad weather on its way; this is the fomula. But, I have yet to here the extent of LT's injury. It did not look very good last night on the replay. Knee sprain or worse...pure speculation but...maybe we see powell finally get activated?

I could tell in the "Predict Shonn Greene's season" thread earlier in the year that there were going to be a lot of threads like this.

Greene has flaws. He doesn't have the vision or the agility to make people miss. He's a power back, and he's a good one at that, but the "1,200 yards for Greene" predictions just failed to account for his shortcomings as a runner.

There's a gray area in between "we have a stud at this position" and "we have a weakness at this position." Don't assume that because Greene isn't Adrian Peterson we have a hole at running back.

Greene was supposed to be the guy who replaced Thomas Jones! Before Leon went down, Greene did nothing his rookie year, and that team ran the ball all the time. Jones leaves, Greene becomes the full-time back with LT as the backup/3rd down back. Greene IS Jones's replacement.

And even if you think the Jets are missing 15 carries a game, the Jets still have a rookie 4th round pick and a 2nd year 4th rounder at RB they can plug in, but they choose not to. The Jets just aren't running the ball as much as they used to.

Thomas Jones has always been as good as the line around him. Most runningbacks are similar. Greene is more of a powerful back with less cut-back ability, but like Jones, his success has a lot to do with the offensive line.

The issue is now the offensive line isn't as good as it once was, and none of our backs are good enough to make up for the difference. Greene isn't a bad RB by any stretch, but he's not an elite talent. Same with LT at this stage, presumably the same is true with the kids.

Greene is not a great back by any stretch of the imagination. He's the kind of back where if you give him 250 carries you'll get your 1,000 yards and probably a bit more than that. That definition fits many backs in the NFL right now.

If the Jets had two of Greene on the roster they'd just rotate them until they wore defenses down. They need that second back to eat some quality carries and maintain the ground and pound. That's what's missing so far.

When they had Jones and Greene they had no problem maintaining a constant ground and pound presence. No matter who was in there on non-passing downs they had the option to run the ball between the tackles.

LaDainian Tomlinson is a great back in the twilight of his career. he doesn't make tacklers miss any more at the line of scrimmage. He's best used as an outlet because once he gets in space one on one he still flashes his old ability now and then.

Thomas Jones was at the end also when the Jets finally let him go a season early instead of a season late. Keeping him wouldn't have solved this issue. What the Jets needed to do, and still need to do is to identify the other back on the roster that can take 15 carries a game and maybe 20+ if it turns out that Greene just can't manage 20+ carries a game. Alternately they need to go find that guy because right now the backs they have other than Greene are all line dependent and the line isn't in good enough shape to make that work out.

We have no idea what Bilal Powell would be. I can't call him line-dependent yet since we haven't seen him run.

The Jets have been drafting other backs, looking for the complementary back. Powell just hasn't been given a shot, for whatever the reason. If LT's knee injury keeps him out Thursday, maybe we'll finally see him.

He has horrible, horrible hands... but he should of got way more carries last night. I blame Shotty and rex for that

You can't have bad hands as a starting tailback in the NFL any more. You don't have to be Marshall Faulk or LaDainian Tomlinson but if you have brickhands on the outlet you just handicap your team to much to make your other contributions worthwhile unless you're a star on the ground.

McKnight needs to see the backfield. Give Greene 2/3 of the carries and McKnight the rest in the same fashion they've used LT. I can care less if LT doesn't see the field again as a Jet.

So far this season he has an avg of 3.9 ypc with a long of 24 and 2 TDs. Part of that is the coaching staff's total lack of faith in sticking with the run, part of that is the sub par play from the Oline, and part of that is that Greene just isn't a dynamic back.

He can break a long run if the Oline is opening up gaping holes, but otherwise he just bangs away for 3-5 yards most of the time. He's a pretty good power runner, but I think the expectations were quite a bit higher than what we've seen (warranted or not). In any case, this team certainly has much bigger issues than our RB right now.

The fact that he's only averaging 16 carries a game and only has 2 TDs on the season points to the fact that he's been woefully underutilized. You can only blame Rex and Schotty for that.
