For a second day pick I'd consider Shockey. He seems to have matured over the last season or so. He is better than Chris Baker, thus an upgrade.
This is a good move for the Giants, they've already got a better TE option in young Boss. Now he's a kid worth trading for--reminds of Jason Witten. But he's a 2nd year player they got on the cheap and he's not going anywhere. But he's the reason that Schockey's expendable. I'd give up a 7th rounder, maybe. He's just not a team player, never mind a Mangini player. Guy refused to bond with Eli in the offseason, staying down in Miami. By the way, if Eli doesn't use his latest juice to start demanding Plaxico and and everybody else march to his tune, he's a dumbshit.
COme on why all the negatives? We would only need him to be good for 2 years then we could ship him off to where ever i dont care. Think of the two tight end sets! and then think of throwing in one of the top WR duos in the NFL at the same time (when healthy obvioulsy) in Coles and Cotchery. Who the hell would want to defend that? Now everyone's argument for drafting Mcfadden is that we need a playmaker on offense. So Shockey can make plays (i agree he is over-rated) but think about it we want to strike fear into other teams hearts, and so to do that we have to make a play for a great recieving option. Or in this case, one that would create a very difficult situation for defenses. Then think about the immediately open running lanes for TJ! you cant stack 8 in the box to stop the run when you have 4 legit pass catching options on the field at all times! granted it's not exactly the recieving wonders that the pats have assembled this year, but it is definately a step forward. Ladies and Gentlemen, to be great you have to take risks! Not every risk will turn out allright, but some will pay off, in a big way. Look at New England, had they not taken a flyer on Randy Moss last offseason does anyone think they would be 18-0? I don't would they be in the Super Bowl? maybe, but they took a chance and it payed off. The last time the Jets took a big risk on a player was when? When was the last time they took a risk to team Chemistry for a chance at greatness? the Bill Parcell's era? wait didn't we win during the BP era? Maybe it's time to take another risk to try and put us over the hump. Adding a great recieving option in Shockey for a mid-round pick (3rd-4th round) coupled with bringing in 2 of the following this offseason to fix the OL (Jacob Bell, Ryan Lilja, Stacy Andrews, Max Starks, Floyd Womack, Jordan Gross) and with the drafting at #6 of either Chris Long or Vernon Gholston to help our Anemic Pass Rush on defense, and we are all of a sudden moving in the right direction. We wont be going 16-0 or likely making a deep run into the postseason but it is the right direction and then with another good offseason in 09 we will be ready to make our run at the Super Bowl. But it starts with taking a risk right now. Is shockey the right risk? I doubt it, but there is no denying his presence would open up everything on the offensive side of the ball (as long as we keep the pieces we have intact). Besides when is the last time the Jets had an offense that wasn't boring? 98'? or was it 68' i forget....
He is all the problems of TO and Moss without the high level talent. Coughlin mentions how hard on a young QB he can be and we are now in that very situation. No way he comes here.
Not originally from Boston; grew up as a die-hard LA Lakers and Dolphin fan now I'm in this cesspool otherwise known as Boston. This place just leaves me sick to my stomach. It's everything from the fans, to the horrible drivers, and the accent. Oh man, the accent is the worst. "Ahh teams ahhh the best everyone else is gahhhhhhhbage" Man, the other day(Monday actually) I went to a sub shop for lunch to avoid all my coworkers who would have undoubtedly been bragging about their win against the Bolts. As I'm sitting there enjoying my steak&cheese, a Patriots couple who clocked my Dolphins hat approaches me. Girl: "You're a Dolphins fan!?!? Lulz. Those are girl colors! I can't believe you like them" Guy: " Dolphins suck lulz" Guy: "I can't believe you traded us Wes Welker[the way he said it, it sounded like he was talking about the second-coming] for a 2nd!" Me: We were going to lose him anyway. Girl: And you traded Chris Chambers away for a 2nd too! HAHAHA Me: We're rebuilding. Girl(as they both walk away): Whatever. Yankees Suck!!!!
Shockey is ten times the talent of Baker. Baker is a decent player but he doesn't have any speed and there is a reason he catches so few passes, he doesn't get open against single linebacker or safety coverage. It would be great to have a good TE on the Jets who could actually help open up the passing game but Shockey comes with a lot of baggage. I could see him doing well in Miami where he could work out with the team during the off season.
Couldn't say it any better. Shockey, along with Tiki Barber were the main culprits in last season's team chemistry issues. The only thing that I would add to your post is the word "hole" right before the period.
He's not a phenomenal tight end. He's a good player, but probably not worth the headache he would cause.
He can reach him alright... and Shockey would even have time to pound his chest before the ball got to him!
wouldn't be surprised if he wound up in Miami with Parcells. Giants could use Jason taylor once Strahan hangs 'em up.
Totally possible if Chris Long is drafted. Although even if Dorsey is the pick why would Bill give up Jason when he can sign Fasano from Dallas?
