So what you would do is just give Wilkerson the money that he wants?

I didn't say that. It's not that cut and dried. To begin with what has Mo asked for? Do you know? I haven't seen anything regarding that. As far as I know, he's never even been made an offer. If they make him a fair, reasonable offer that shows that they respect him and want him to remain a Jet for the rest of his career, I'm sure that they can come to an agreement. While Mac doesn't want to be seen as a pushover, he also doesn't want to be seen as cheap as Idzik, and can't afford to fail in his first negotiation with the Jets' best player. Better to overpay a little and get it done than risk alienating him and/or the team. He can remain as the Jets' GM and get other GM jobs with overpaying a little in his first negotiation (if it comes to that), but if he fails in this negotiation, his time with the Jets is probably pretty short, and it's unlikely then that he'd get a second opportunity.

I operate from the assumption that the Jets have made fair offers to Wilkerson and been rebuffed. There's nothing in Woody Johnson's past nor in the free agent signings that John Idzik actually made that suggests that the offers to Wilkerson would have been lowball offers. Eric Decker got paid well for his level of talent and contribution. Jeremy Kerley got paid extremely well for his level of talent and contribution. The deal for Percy Harvin suggested a willingness to pay for prime time talent.

The fact that Wilkerson hasn't been extended yet suggests very strongly that he is holding out for a near top of the market deal, and when the market was set by J.J. Watt that's a problem.

You could be right, but you know what happens when you assume. Until I hear that the Jets have made an offer and it was rebuffed, I have to believe that no offer was made. I think it entirely plausible that Idzik didn't want to get into negotiations during the season and thought he would address it as soon as the season was over, then when things went south, he knew it was pointless.

does it necessarily? I mean we really don't know where the issue has been with regards to an extension.

Length, total value, guarantees, timing, OTHER deals besides Watt's, maybe one side wanted 2014 to make a judgment on how much he's worth, there are so many factors that could play into this.

Jets to Sheldon: STFU!!! I love watching him play, but he talks too much and he talks about inappropriate things.

Nobody knows. I will tell you that if Mo's agent tries to squeeze their balls too hard they will Revis him out of here. He is not their guy
