Doubt it Rex was here 6 years and never took a OLB. It was probably the most important thing for his defense and he never addressed it.
Why? If he shows this kind of disregard for his career he'll just repeat it. There were warning signs with Aaron Hernandez, Lawrence Phillips, Maurice Clarett, Josh Gordon. It would be a high risk, high pick that the Jets right now do not have the luxury to do.
And down his draft stock goes. It was slipping before this, he's a 3rd day pick now almost for certain.
That's not true. People change, people grow up. There are numerous positive players that made mistakes and had a great career and corrected the issue early. Warren Sapp and Justin Houston are examples off the top of my head. People get to hung up on mistakes sometimes, we all make them, it happens. It doesn't mean that is who he is as a man, I'm willing to Bey there is much more to Shane Ray than weed. I don't want him because I don't think he will be a very good NFL player, not because he made a mistake and got caught with some weed.
I agree it should be legal but it doesn't bode well for Ray's intelligence that he couldn't keep a clean rap this close to the draft.
Bucky Brooks tonight still says in spite of his injury and failed drug test that the Jets are going to take Ray at #6. I don't think he knows what the hell he's talking about.
So? Did he get arrested while he was a pro football player? My point still stands. He cleaned up his act as a pro athlete and had a great career. Its very possible. Happens all the time. That doesn't devalue my initial argument at all, nice try though.
Why take the risk? Manziel just got out of rehab. How many games will Josh Gordon be playing this year? That would be ZERO. New England and every team knew about Aaron Hernandez gang affiliation. Sapp was a different era these kids today are idiots.
I could see maybe the 49ers taking him later in the first round or if he drops the Patriots at the end of the round.
If you play it safe all the time, your never going to get anywhere in life. Sometimes you have to take risks to be successful. That's why and that concept applies to everything in life, not just football. If you can get a first round talent in the second, you do it, its not like the kid has done something major, he just made a mistake. We all do.
Westhoff just did a piece on Shane Ray on SNY. He loves him. And it was a nice presentation. Ray is interesting, and a little polarizing in his projections. It's gonna be interesting to see where he goes, especially after what happened. Maybe, of Gregory, DGB, and Ray, it's Ray who falls to us in rd. 2 if any of them actually do. I'd like to see anyone of them. I like Ray and hope he falls to us
