Somewhere, Al Davis' phone is ringing and he's busy holding the cat to his hear. San Diego delenda est.
I'm just curious why everybody assumes that the Pats are going to draft some superstar with the pick they got from the Raiders. Seriously outside of Mayo who is a stud what have the Pats done in the draft to automatically assume they are going to grab a stud. The D has demised greatly over te past few years and the Pats have done nothing to sure it up. None of the FA's have worked and most of the guys they draft don't even make the roster. Granted I hate seeing a division rival get handed high picks but watching them lose Seymour is quite comical.
It's not really the assumption that NE will draft a superstar with the pick, it's just the value of 1st rounders in today's NFL coupled with Seymour's age/contract situation that makes the trade totally laughable. I mean, Oakland didn't even work out a contract extension prior to making the deal. It's like they smoked a bunch of blunts, oil, and hit the vaporizer and started negotiating. Chances are the Pats will get a solid player in the first round. Then you take into account the Raiders' draft position, and your head explodes trying to comprehend what Al Davis was thinking.
One of the worst trades I have ever seen. Just beyond stupid that the Raiders didn't first redo Seymour's contract.
The Raiders are truly retarded if they don't Franchise Seymour. Having said that, the Raiders, really, are the only team in the league that could afford to "give away" 1st round picks. Think about it. They've been selecting in the top 10 for the last...what?...4-5 years? They've already invested a lot of money on busts, AND they'll be picking high again this off-season. This was probably one of the best moves IMO. They simply cannot afford to keep getting these high draft picks.
With the Spags being a defensive guru and the Rams quite frankly being a disgrace I can't imagine them giving up the pick. Then again if somebody offers you a 1st this year and next year knowing that next years pick is going to be a top 10 pick it's hard to say no to that
How? Suh is in this year's draft class and Seymour was traded for the Raiders 2011 draft pick. San Diego delenda est.
Naa...I would put it a close second to the Randy Moss trade...The one where Al Davis got a 4th and shoved it up his own ass (asshole). Fucker let us draft Gholston when we could have had McFadden. Atleast McFadden contributed.
Can always trade the 2011 pick to move up in the draft this year, or trade it for a player that is franchised or has a high tier RFA tag
Extension: http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/02/16/richard-seymour-agrees-to-new-contract-with-raiders/ Richard Seymour is sticking with the Oakland Raiders. Seymour, the defensive tackle whose contract expired at the end of the 2010 season, has agreed to a new contract with the Raiders, according to multiple reports. The terms of the new contract are not yet known. Jim Trotter of SI.com reports that it’s a two-year deal with $22.5 million in guarantees and the potential to make $30 million. But Jason La Canfora of NFL Network reports that it’s a four-year deal. Seymour has said he expects to remain in Oakland and this deal appears to fulfill that expectation. It also means the Raiders won’t need to use the franchise tag to hold onto Seymour. Oakland may now use the franchise tag on tight end Zach Miller. The Raiders acquired Seymour in a trade with the Patriots before the 2009 season. New England reaceived Oakland’s first-round pick (No. 17 overall) in this year’s NFL draft.
jesus christ, 2 years 30 million with 22.5 million guaranteed? the ravens are loving this right now rofl if ngata uses this as a baseline for a 6 year contract it'd be 6 years 90 million with 67.5 million guaranteed
