Why wouldn't I be concerned about the government having control of guns? Was that a serious question?
Explain in a coherent lucid manner why having the government control guns would be a bad thing given the reality that the government already controls warplanes, tanks, heavy artillery and nuclear weapons? Is the ability to protect yourself with a handgun really relevant if the government is who you are faced off against in a fight?
On a large scale you simply do not want to give the government the ability to easily and remotely disarm most of it's citizens. Guerrilla warfare can work regardless of the technological dominance. On a smaller scale you do not want our already corrupt government to be able to single out a specific group of people and disarm them just because they feel like it. Imagine if Ted Cruz, Rand Paul and the Tea Party were in control and decided to target democrats as "domestic terrorists" and disabled their weapons and just walked up to their door and arrested them. Extremely far fetched but you get the idea. The government should never have that kind of power. They're already far too powerful. It's much easier to take over a nation when the citizens aren't armed.
This kind of shit has to stop. Fragile, Attention-seeking, nut jobs going off like that. I don't know where we are going wrong as a society but this is getting ridiculous. I understand the importance of covering these events in the news and I certainly don't think they should be ignored, but then again I hate the fact that yet another asshole kid is getting his picture plastered all over the news because he took the cowardly, selfish and vile way out. Just like that fuckhead kid in CT and that fuckhead in CO.. it goes on and on.
Guerrilla warfare isn't conducted using legal weapons. It's conducted using illegal weapons that are obtained to try to even up the odds, assault rifles, shoulder launched anti-air assets, etc. Even then, this is a thing of the past. Guerrilla movements don't win against central authority any more. If the government collapses for other reasons guerrilla movements can sustain themselves in the aftermath but the days of Fidel walking into Havana with his army are over. The power multipliers available to strong governments are just too much for a populist based rebellion to achieve victory. If drones had existed in 1773 the American Revolution would have been put down in a matter of weeks, maybe days. This is exactly what I want our government to do. I want them to shut down the gun shops in liberal gun law states and stop the flow of weapons to states that have more conservative standards about who should be able to own a gun and for what purpose. I want to cut the trade in illegal weapons and the only way to do that is either much better regulation and background checking of legal guns or dramatically cutting all gun sales across the country. Guns were legalized in Germany in 1928. We know where that led.
We couldn't possibly be further apart on this. I do want to clarify one thing though ... You're blaming nazi Germany on the legalization of guns? The first thing they did was disarm the population which you seem to be in favor of doing here.
That's an amusing (and somewhat disingenuous?) framing of a scenario. Seriously, that scenario with "blue staters-as-gun-owners" says more about what side-of-the-aisle you politically affiliate yourself with….just sayin' A Tea Party candidate taking away Nancy Pelosi's guns? …. why lookie there at them pigs flyin'
how can you have faith the gov't can stop illegal gun trades when they have spent the last 30 years in a war against drugs that hasn't stop the flow of drugs in the country 1 bit?legislation will not stop gun violence, it will only ensure that only criminals are buying guns
Our government gives weapons to drug cartels in Mexico and couldn't be bothered to secure the border. We should definitely turn over our guns to them. They will keep us safe.
The real issue here with this kid (aside from being psycho) is that once again it's a kid who his entire life was brought up to believe life is fair and everybody gets a prize and when reality hits he snaps. When will we as a country wake up and stop trying to make every kid feel special? You are not special, in fact there is a good chance you suck at life, you don't get a prize, we keep score in sports so you can feel the humility of losing and learn that you can't always win. I'm fairly liberal but I blame the PC Police aka these liberals who think by trying to make everything fair and give everybody a prize because little Johnny can't handle having his feelings hurt they are making the world a better place.... they are not. This is what happens when you lie to children for 18 years and are dealt the crushing blow that Bill up the street gets more pussy, drives a better car and makes more money because he earned it, not because his boss tried to make it fair for some loser who feels entitled to it.
I think the real issue was that he was 100% psycho and should have been admitted but I couldn't agree more with your rant. Thanks for that!
It just pisses me off, I pulled my son out of the baseball league he was in because they didn't keep score. They acted all offended because I wanted my son to learn that losing and sucking at baseball are part of life. I told them the best hitters in the majors fail at the plate 2 out of every 3 times they come up to bat yet we teach these kids that it's not ok to fail and lose. We set them up for failure because we are afraid to let them lose and don't want their feelings to be hurt. You know why the Chinese own us? Because they say fuck your feelings, we don't care if I hurt your feelings. I was married to one and I saw it all the time and not just her, in large gatherings of Chinese, it's all about I'm better than you and look at what I have and you don't. Failing is part of life and as soon as we start to teach our children that it's ok to lose and have your feelings hurt the better off we'll be.
Good point grandpa, clearly the kid that didn't have a friend or anyone in the world that cared about him(with good reason) and was still a raging narcissist just needed a little bit of tough love. You've cracked the case.
Aspergers blows man This entitled assholes different perspective on how he views the world, coupled with the depression and anxiety that are commonly associated with Aspergers led to the death of 6 innocent people. The worst thing about situations like this, much like the situation with the Newtown shooter Adam Lanza's case, is that once people like this reach adulthood, there's nothing you as a parent, friend, etc. can really do to help them. They aren't going to take meds because they know the meds aren't going to make them feel better and that they're better off not taking them (It's true, prescription drugs are not the solution, but that's a whole other topic). There's also only so much a therapist, pychiatrist, psychologist, etc. can do and most of the time they aren't going to tell anything that the troubled individual hasn't already heard many times before. They are so set in their ways of how they perceive the world to be, and what their opinions are, that no one can tell them otherwise. Just think, if only this POS realized how unfulfilling and time-consumming having a girlfriend really is, and how unspectacular and glorified sex really is (not always unspectacular, but you get the point), and that there are many other experiences in life that can match and surpass both sex and having a partner, then he wouldn't have placed such as significant emphasis on attaining and not having these two thing, which ultimately would have prevented this tragedy from happening.
Your the first person to really put it into perspective where you can envision the guy taking a different path in life beyond being a narcissistic twerp that hated women and made it believable, past just stating that he should have been locked up and institutionalized. Good job. I'd still like to throw his lifeless corpse into a pigpen to be eaten into tiny bits, but still.
So this puke's parents bought him a BMW and bought him his guns and raised him to believe there was no one to be responsible to but did not have the good sense and decency to be his first victim as Nancy Lanza did. Teaching kids the meaning of the word "No" might be the most important lesson they can learn.
Yeah, I'm sure he did it because schools give runner up awards and prizes for non winners or because they make kids feel special. The only issue here is that he was insane, just like 99% of these people that go on shooting rampages. Maybe we should start looking at our diets and scrutinizing the FDA more. What really leads to a kid snapping like this? I find it tough to believe that it's pure genetic bad luck. If I could ask one question to the family, I'd ask if he drank spring water or tap water with fluoride in it.
