The analogy to Miami is apt, but IIRC their prized rookie QB got badly hurt, and maybe ruined. That is the ONE THING can't be allowed to happen here. Wilson is a special breed of QB. While we might be able to become playoff caliber without him, it's highly unlikely we win a SB without him.
How do you support the bolded claim? Right now he is not. It's way too early to tell what kind of NFL quarterback he may become.
Noam, most of us understand your comments. However, IMHO the team is not progressing and is not competitive. Can you or others that support your comments honestly say that this team looked prepared last week. Not to mentioned being out coached just about every week... just saying. Oh yea, 1st year right...just wondering if they left their collective NFL experience at FP door when they singed up. As others have stated, they do not have an identity. Right now its what we use to referred to in the military as a "CLUSTER ****" !
Thuney was the best guard available but, there were plenty of other quality offensive linemen like Jack Conklin, Trent Williams, Brandon Scherff who would have been significant upgrades over Van Roten and McGovern who stink.
I cannot speak to how prepared they are but they made a lot of mistakes. Is that execution or coaching or a bit of both. Often times when things go bad players try to do too much and make mistakes. My guess is if they start having some success they will relax more and play better. But mistakes are cumulative and effect everyone on the field and make everyone else look worse. Saleh made some comments that we can't have 9 guys doing it right and 2 guys making mistakes. On the positive they play hard, they hit, they are enthusiastic and they play that way for 60 minutes. Will the light come on and will they improve? I can't guarantee you that. Learning how to win is hard. But, hopefully at some point they can play competitive games. But here is something to watch while we all continue to suffer. X factor breaks down Zach's bad and good plays in 2 videos. In the good video they talk about some of the things Lafluer is doing right to help Zach. There definitely are negatives in these 2 videos but a lot of good too. https://jetsxfactor.com/2021/09/28/zach-wilson-mike-lafleur-culpable-ny-jets-film/
I love all 4 of those players but Conklin was a FA in 2020 not this year, Scherff was franchised and Williams was never going anywhere signing a 138 million dollar contract extension.
