Seems like Revis, Keller and Landry all want to stay....

Really? Why do people hate Keller so much? Wasn't he leading receiver 2 years in a row??? A top 15 QB makes Keller a stud. He's catching bad passes from one of the worst QBs in the league. He has a lot of value, even if it's mostly as receiver. It's comical how the majority of people feel like Holmes and Keller should go, even though they're the best players on offense. It makes perfect logical sense to bring keller back cheap while his value is down after an injury ridden season. Same with Revis.

    My prediction:

We keep all three and the "we can't afford it" people eat crow and Izzy looks like a genius.

    Cheap, huh?

Is this the same guy that said he would be pissed if the Jets used the franchise tag on him?

I think I will pass and find another TE that can throw a block once in a while.

i think we will see all 3 in jets uni's this season. they will get landry and keller in and as much as trading revis seems like the right move,i think he will play out the contract here.

Heh. Seeing as how this is not a politics thread, I agree with you. Today, anyway. And like I said yesterday Keller also disappears too often from the O. He's overrated.

The guy is not a burner, he's one of the shortest TEs in the league (so he isnt the red zone matchup nightmare that modern TEs should be), doesn't run great routes, has average hands, limited YAC abilities, rarely breaks a tackle, and is injury prone on top.

These are exactly the type of guys you cut when you need to trim a roster.

As for Landry, I like him, but not enough for a major contract. Revis is Revis.

i thinkyou.underestimate kellers speed. and as far as injury, this year was the first time in 5 years he missed any time. played every single game for 4 years straight. i wouldnt call that injury prone as much as the law of averages catching up with him.
personally i feel they would be hard pressed to replace keller with a better t.e. in the draft. i don't see why things couldnt be tweaked to get landry and keller both in under the cap this year

Keller has no upside going forward. The team has a cap problem, he's a vet probably looking for big money for someone who is not even an average TE, and there are too many other holes to fill to keep him.

we can speculate on the $, but we don't really know so i will leave that out.
if/when keller leaves,we will have a hole at t.e. as bad as this offense has been, if he is signable he should be resigned.saving cap space to fill a hole by opening another hole is counter productive at best. insanity at worst

But the value is good, due to the poor injury ridden season last year. I doubt he's looking for big money after the year he had. If he is, he will be knocked back into reality when no team wants to put the $$ down for him. Signing him this year would be cheaper than pretty much any other year we've had him. We should pounce on it.

Here are a couple of comparisons. Trying to find players that are about the same age and similar production.

    Keller (2011)
    Catches - 66
    Yards - 815
    1st downs - 39
    Td - 5

    Celek (2012)
    Catches - 57
    Yards - 684
    1st downs - 52
    td - 1
    Contract 6 years / $33 million (2009 offseason)

    Lewis (2012)
    Catches - 84
    Yards - 540
    1st downs - 25
    Td - 4
    Contract 5 years / $35 million (2011 offseason)

I know he is coming off an injury and isn't a great blocker, but I think it is safe to say he is getting a good payday (5 years / $30 million?). I don't see anyway he is going to be cheap.

I think the Jets will just go with Cumberland instead. He's almost the same player, maybe not as talented but the difference between Keller and Cumberland is probably negligible considering what the difference in cost will likely be.

    is that the guarenteed amounts?
contracts like these can be massaged to keep the cap number low enough to be manageable and leave the team an out for the end years. if he can be worked for those years and the cap hit this year is manageable i have know problem giving him that contract. he is a good pro and will be a nice assesst in the w.c.o.

I'd put Landry as likely to return and Revis & Keller most likely gone.

i hope the jets can keep revis...without any acrimony. but i sense he's always gonna be a headache. it's a shame. for all the stress he causes, i bet it's not worth that much more money. i guess the jets have decided to cut bait with him. seems that way.

Revis wants to be the highest paid defensive player in the league. We have a team that has team needs. As other posters have said, $10 mil a year for a CB is too much already. I'd rather have Keller and Landry back than Revis based on the salaries required to keep them. Fuck Revis, let him get his payday elsewhere. This TEAM has needs.

Cumberland is better than some of the players the jets had at several other positions last season. Shit, he wasn't even close to the worst starter on the team after Keller went down. I count RT, probably LG, any of the wideouts after Kersey (meaning after Holmes went down) certainly Qb (THAT is a biggie, of course), arguably starting RB as well, and that's just offense. D is more a matter of cuts to vets this off season, but as of now DeVito, Pouha, Scott, Thomas and Pace are all off the roster, possibly either or both of Landry and Bell (E Smith is also already gone), and if Revis is gone, he is "replaced" with Kyle Wilson?

Take the offensive players at the positions I mentioned, add Kyle Wilson, and then go to the backups at the defensive positions I mentioned, and it is hard to argue that ANY of those players are better than Cumberland. In short, TE is the last position that needs an expensive FA signing right now.

I am reluctant to predict what this FO will do, since they have no track record in FA signings or the draft. But unless Keller asks for peanuts, he's gone, imo.

Pouha is not a free agent. Did the Jets cut him or are you just projecting a cut?

i.m.o. you are over rating cumberland and there is nothing to say keller is going to be an expensive signing.if he is in the 4mil range he should come back. 4 mil for a solid pro who has been played 4 full seasons with no injuries and 1 where he fought nagging soft tissue injuries with no surgery history is not a bad deal

btw wilson is an average-slightly above cb who is held to a higher standard because of revis and cro
