Long snapping is not something many guys can do well. Never forget about the 2002 Giants-49ers playoff game.
In watching the game last night it appears for the first time in recent memory the Jets have a real dilemma. They have a lot more than 53 people worth keeping. Seems they may keep 4 QBs and 9 DBs. Then what if they keep 4 TEs? If they do they are screwed in line depth and LBs. Tannenbaum also mentioned that Miami has first pick at people we don't protect and they understand what that means.
Franks is only signed for one year. If Keller emerges like he should I doubt Franks gets a second deal.
Tannenbaum also singled out Woody as being a big surprise for everyone. He must be playing great but of course because of his position you will never hear his name unless he screws up.
Boller has a torn labrum in his throwing shoulder. I can't imagine the Ravens don't try to trade for a QB today. Do we attempt to trade one of ours? My guess is that we keep all 4 active just so they can't steal one tomorrow.
So what is everyone's thoughts after the final preseason game? Anyone want to change their predictions?
After last night, I would take Ainge, Franks & Cummings off the cut list, I have no idea who I would replace them with.
Nice job here, but I'd change a few things. For starters, I think Hunter is the 3rd best OT (clearly our weakest position as far as depth) and Bender, I believe only played OT not guard during preseason, and really struggled from what I saw. I'd replace Gardner with Hunter and Bender with Turner and keep Montgomery as my eighth OL (no room for McChesney). I think both Cummings and Spencer outplayed Chatham and I don't believe there is anyway he can make this roster. The look on his face during the Eagles game looked like a man resigned to the fact that he was playing his last game. I'd take Cummings over Chatham. My problem now though is, I still want to find room for Brown and Spencer. The only candidates I see to replace would be: Ainge, Baker, Franks and Barrett. So out of those six I can only take 4. If you put a gun to my head I choose Spencer, Brown, Ainge and Franks (Franks over Baker because Keller catches better than Baker and Franks blocks and plays redzone better, bottom line, we don't need him). So my 53 looks like: QB Brett Favre QB Kellen Clemens QB Brett Ratliff QB Erik Ainge HB Thomas Jones HB Leon Washington HB Jesse Chatman FB Tony Richardson FB Jason Pocsiak WR Laveraneus Coles WR Jerricho Cotchery WR Brad Smith WR Chansi Stuckey WR Wallace Wright WR Marcus Henry WR David Clowney TE Bubba Franks TE Dustin Keller OT D'Brickashaw Ferguson OT Damian Woody OT Hunter OG Alan Faneca OG Brandon Moore OG Robert Turner C Nick Mangold DE Shaun Ellis DE Kenyon Coleman DE CJ Mosley DE Mike DeVito DE Brown NT Kris Jenkins NT Sione Pouha OLB Calvin Pace OLB Bryan Thomas OLB Vernon Gholston OLB Marques Murrell LB Cody Spencer ILB David Harris ILB Eric Barton ILB David Bowens ILB Kenwin Cummings CB Darrelle Revis CB Dwight Lowery CB Hank Poteat CB Justin Miller CB Drew Coleman FS Kerry Rhodes SS Eric Smith SS Abram Elam K Mike Nugent P Ben Graham LS James Dearth OL Will Montgomery Lastly, it probably won't happen, but I could see Johnson beating out Pouha. It just seems he was alot more active and involved in things.
08/30 ? Today is "Final Cut Day" in the NFL, and the Jets announced 22 player moves to get down to the NFL's 53-player maximum. Two Jets veterans are at the top of the list as LB Matt Chatham and DB Hank Poteat were released. Nineteen other players were waived. Also, as previously announced by an NFL spokesperson, RB Jesse Chatman was suspended four games for violation of the league's steroids policy and will not count on the final-53 roster. Head coach Eric Mangini is about to hold a conference call now with Jets reporters to comment on the moves. Here is a list of the 18 players, by position, waived by the Jets: RB ? Jehuu Caulcrick TE ? Jason Pociask, A.J. Schable WR ? David Ball, Larry Brackins, Paul Raymond OL ? Jacob Bender, Stanley Daniels, Kyle DeVan, Nate Garner, Matt McChesney DL ? Thomas Johnson, Bryan Mattison, Ropati Pitoitua LB ? Blair Phillips, Brandon Renkart DB ? Rudy Burgess, James Ihedigbo, Cameron Worrell (waived/injured) The Jets' current roster lists four QBs ? Brett Favre, Kellen Clemens, Brett Ratliff and rookie Erik Ainge ? two tailbacks in Thomas Jones and Leon Washington, five tight ends (including long-snapper James Dearth), and seven wide receivers ? Laveranues Coles, Jerricho Cotchery, Brad Smith, Chansi Stuckey, Wallace Wright, David Clowney and Marcus Henry. The defensive distribution is more "usual" by football standards ? seven linemen, eight LBs, nine DBs ? although the moving of David Barrett around the secondary in camp and in the last two preseason games is felt. There are only three safeties on the roster in Kerry Rhodes, Eric Smith and Abram Elam, but Barrett has passed his audition and is now a safety as well as a corner. There are 27 offensive players, 24 defensive players and two kickers on this roster, which still can change before the season-opening kickoff Sept. 7 at Miami. Five of the six members of the Jets' 2008 Jets draft class are on the active roster, with only seventh-round OL Nate Garner being waived. One undrafted rookie free agent made this roster: DE/LB Kenwin Cummings, who had a team-leading six tackles in the final preseason game at Philadelphia. Also, the roster has three first-year players: Ratliff and WR David Clowney, who teamed up for 222 yards, eight completions and two 70-yard TDs in the first 1? games before Clowney injured his shoulder, plus OL Robert Turner, who played in two games last season but still retains his first-year status this season. All teams had until 4 p.m. EDT today to reach the maximum of 53 players on their Active/Inactive Lists, and after noon Sunday all teams may establish their eight-player practice squads. Eric Allen and I are on the conference call, and EA will have a news story on Coach Mangini's comments shortly after the call ends this evening http://www.newyorkjets.com/blog/posts/665-chatham-poteat-pociask-among-final-cuts
Dang, I was close. Poteat instead of Barrett, Pocsiak instead of Baker and the suspended Chatman instead of Carroll. Close...so close.
