So we are gonna be a playoff team now because we lost the home opener?

Tell me you didn't feel that last interception coming a mile away? Really, you can blame Folk, and he deserves it, but Nug missed one in the same direction. We had a chance to win the game, despite Revis Dumpster. Good teams find a way to win, and the opportunity in the last drive was there. Marshall dropping one that hits him in the numbers. He was looking at it the whole time, never took his eye off, but couldn't bring it in, for 20+. The penalty. Another dropped pass, and of course, the Fitzpatrick fold machine being fully gassed up and running in end-of-season form.

There were positives too, like 7 F'ing sacks, and Forte. Ununwa (or however the F ya spell it). But ultimately, while I love Fitz because he's an underdog (the same reason we watch this sack of shit franchise), this win wouldn't have meant shit. This is not a superbowl team. Fitz didn't suddenly become Mr. Conservative and poise.....he's still Fitz. Fun as hell to watch, and infuriatingly inaccurate at times.

If you really want to push blame, blame Woody. Woody is the Q-Tip that goes around poking ears, throwing out feelers for people that know football. He has no clue on how to run shit. Never has, and is never going to. Its crazy when ya think about it, because he seems like he's around it, and could learn something, but still hasn't learned shit. He's still playing the lottery with personnel, hoping to find that 5th round pick that wins all year, every year. Whether it be a coach, a GM, a QB, a quasi media-whore who could sell tickets. Ya know, shit like that....

When I look at Woody, I see a jellyfish.

This is a little harsh...by all accounts Maccagnan has been a good hire...the talent pool arrow is pointing upward...this franchise has been cursed at QB for 40+ years, bu I challenge you to come up with a better option for his year than Fitz. Woody looks like a guy who knows how to get out of the way, when necessary and Maccagnan is strong enough to keep him out of the way.

So far Mac hasnt been able to hit in the second round as every other Gm before him recently.Devin Smith and Hackenburg. Not getting production out of round 2 is killing us.We should trade our second round pick every year to make up for this ineptness.

I dunno man, I don't see it. It's every year, not just this year. Todd Bowles, while I don't think he's terrible, is the lottery game. Fitz was the only option this year. As far as how mac has done, I can't get behind that with guys like Lynch being passed over for Hackenburg....Revis hasn't been Revis for quite some time. Woody hired the guys that brought us Vick, Quincy Carter....Geno...who was that sack of crap receiver from Pitts...you know, the cancer....Putting up with crap coaches for a year too long, consistently. If I sat here long enough I could rattle off probably 2 dozen names that are a direct result of hires by Woody.

I like Macc. But, picking Hackenberg in the second round makes me think our GM might have a substance abuse problem.

Tim Tebow? Haha...seriously....Tim Tebow. Woody worries about ticket sales, as all owners do, but he'd put the Kardashians on the field if he thought it would put asses in the seat.

    OK last one

Rex: Well Mr. Johnson we're going to try something new called "The Wild cat"
    Woody: What's that??? Sounds exciting!
Rex: Well if we can build this team around a running game, we'll zig, while everyone else zags. We get anyone who has every ran with the football, and hire them as a QB and direct snap to them.
Woody: How long do you need?
    Rex: oh like 14 years
Woody: Great! Lets do it. Who is that guy that's always praying? Get him!

Seriously, after sitting through Leon Hess' years of crap sackery, and one last stand with Bill Parcells, I really can't even take this team seriously anymore. It was so bad, that some people enshrined Chad and Herm to the Jets HOF.

Most of the time it feels like the Jets are the NFL scout team. Then they get guys that can play and let them forment in a losing system for their career. Al Toon...poor bastard.

I agree with this sentiment. I thought outside of QB and secondary play, there was a lot to be pleased with yesterday. The DL was amazing. Forte looked great. Enunwa impressed. The OL held up well. Quite frankly, with our pass rush, this team could in theory create a facsimile of what we saw Denver do last season. I think we looked better yesterday than our next 4 opponents, to be honest. I will not get down over a 1 point loss to what might be the best or second best team in the AFC. We showed we were right there, just have to clean up some of the mistakes.

If you want to talk about premonitions, how about: knowing the game was lost when the Jets, after getting to the 1 yard line, settled for a FG and 2 point lead with over 2 minutes to play. You had to know that this game was going in the L column.

Week 1 was a must win! Lol

From the hysterical over reactions on here you'd think we were expected to go undefeated.

It's a must win simply because the Bengals could take a wild card spot. For us to go 8-8 this season it was a win we could give way.

The Bills, Seahawks, Cardinals, and Steelers are all going to be tough. For a game we should have won it was a must win.

When we look back on which game hurt our playoff chances (again) ..it could easily be this one.
    AFC tie breaker...ouch.
    ..that said,

Being that it was a Home game and add to that 6 of the next 8 are on the road
Now it's looking like this game was bigger than just game 1 of the season.

Gotta bunker down and kick ass on the road..

You don't know what a must win game means. Many people on this site don't.

It was an important game but they're all important. We could go 15-1 and week one would be essentially meaningless

Just cause a game isn't week 15, 16, 17 doesn't mean it's not a must win. 16 weeks from now if the Bengals and Jets have the same record they make the playoffs and we don't.

WHAT? Week one is never a must win. All games in the NFL are important.

Lets also remember modern day NFL very little contact, limited practice, limited preseason reps.It takes a couple weeks to figure out who the good teams will be.

The problem with Bowles (as I see it) is in game adjustments. We never adjusted against the wr screen pass and deep cover issues. This team is a win now team and Bowles has to get it before it's too late. JMO

Was anybody expecting the Jets to go out there and just dominate the Bengals? They are one of the better teams in the league, and have a top notch D. Sure the Jets made some mistakes and could have won, but the fact that they could hang with the Bengals despite several timely mishaps, says quite a bit about the team.

It's easy when you are a fan to look at every play from a Jets perspective, but the Bengals made some very good plays in that game. The Jets should be decent this year and compete in every game. Looking at the first 6 games we already knew that it was going to be a bumpy road in the beginning. If the Jets can get out of week 6 3-3, it will be a win. Of course this pretty much means they HAVE to beat the Bills this week.

I was more annoyed at the Patriots win, than the Jets loss, to be honest. Folk doesn't leave 4 points on the table and we're looking at a much different game. If Brandon Marshall doesn't drop that easy pass in the late 4th, who knows. If Decker's route wasn't disrupted on that end zone throw, who knows.

:D there was someone on here yesterday or something that was arguing that the first 6 games were all 'must win' games.... doesn't that kinda defeat the purpose of 'must win game?' if you get 6 chances at it? :D

I guess we can thank ESPN and stuff for this idea. Its just a marketing ploy to play up games for people. Trent Dilfer on the pregame show was making the argument that the Bengals game was must win. Randy Moss and Charles Woodson haven't been TV guys enough because they were laughing at that idea. Its absurd.

I hope when the Jets win the rest of their games and go 15-1 Trent Dilfer is still lamenting how the Jets lost that must win game week 1.
