I'm an admitted, longtime, Darksider, but I truly see no light at the end of the tunnel anymore. We have the worst owner in all of football. Because of that, we will never attract legit GM's/HC's. We have no good QB options going forward and it seems like a bunch of the actual solid players we have want to get the hell out of town. 14 years out of the playoffs with no end in sight.
I was more apathetic about the Jets this season than at any time since I became a fan ~25 years ago. Seeing the same mistakes made time and time again wears on you. Still excited for a new regime though and looking forward to diving into the draft and determining what I'd like us to do at #7.
I had way more hope in 1999 before Testaverde went down with his non-contact achilles rupture than before this season. That actually felt like a team that was ready to go all the way before the injury. This year seemed promising, but it was always a longshot that all the pieces were just going to come together out of nowhere, unlike 1999.
This season has killed just about all of my interest in the NFL. Other than the Jets, who until the last two weeks I hadn't watched play at all since the Halloween night game, I've only watched maybe four full games this season. Most of the time I would just keep track of what was happening in the league via my fantasy league or through discussions here. And, I have to say, I didn't really miss it nearly as much as I thought I would. I paid a little bit of attention to the Commanders since they were my dad's team, so I'm adopting them for the playoffs, hoping that either they, the Vikings, or the Lions can make it to the end and take down the Chiefs. But, other than that bit of interest mainly for nostalgic reasons, I haven't cared much about the NFL this season. And now that we're staring down the tunnel at another dismal season next year with no good coaching candidates to bring in here, I'd like to thank the Jets' ownership for finally destroying this franchise. I don't think that they can recover from this in a way that will bring back the fun that there used to be in rooting for this team. It's over, especially with there being no viable path to the playoffs anytime in the near future.
Brook don't be afraid to tell us how you feel, LOL. I know this might not be popular, but I think firing Saleh made things even worse. Who knows maybe Rex Ryan can save the day for you guys. Both our teams suck now. The NFL script is pretty obvious, with the NFL officials on their side plus being a great team, I can't see KC not winning the Superbowl.
Fuck this team. Fuck the owner. Fuck all of it. I have been a fan since 98'. Made the choice as a young kid based on my favorite color.... Green. The only years that truly made me happy, were during the Rex Ryan years. The rest has been misery, suffering, and simply a huge waste of my time as a human being. Shoot. I've been on this board for a long time and I don't really have any real meaningful relationships on this board even. Which is a bit surprising and unfortunate but that is out of my control as well. So, what is the point? Choosing the NYJ as my team, was a massive mistake. Unfortunately it is a mistake that I have wholeheartedly committed to. I don't know how to walk away and just root for another team. I live on the border of Indiana and Ohio. I could literally root for either states teams, yet, I can't bring myself to do so. I'm very close to being done with the NFL because of this. Being a fan of football has diminished for me over the years because of this sad sack of an excuse we call a pro team. I'm not even fully enjoying the CFP right now. It is fucked. Now we are looking at uncertainty and another fucking rebuild. Woody is the cancer of this team, until he sells or dies, I don't see a future for this team. What a shitty spot to be in as a fan. its so fucking frustrating. I may not be around anymore soon, if so, this is why. I'm disgusted by it all. Take care and God bless.
Well, not much I can add to all the misery posted in this thread. Been a fan since 1960 when my Dad took me to see the Titans in the Polo Grounds. It's not so much the losing, it's the incompetence. It's the eternal confusion. It's the circus. It's the drama. All of it self-inflicted by a trust fund baby that doesn't have a fckn clue how to run anything at all. Can't run a business. Can't run a football team. The only thing he can do is read the sport pages and the ledgers. I'm done with it. Been slowly pulling back my "fandom" for a few years now. Judging by the empties in the stadium yesterday, I'm not the only one. I'm watching this offseason with a very clear idea of what I'm expecting out of Team 33 and Johnson. They really need to NOT fuck this up. They have no more excuses, no more room for error. Hiring another incompetent 1st timer will be the end of me taking this organization seriously. Hiring a retread doesn't work either as nostalgia feels good, but doesn't win football games. If it takes Woody to back up the Brinks truck to get a viable, competent, GM/HC combo in here, get it done. If he even thinks about bringing ANYBODY back from this last CS? I'm done. Nobody on the current CS should survive the purge. NOBODY... As far as Rodgers and his merry men are concerned, one game doesn't really move the needle as it was against a team that had clearly checked out. It was the NY Packers show yesterday. I suspect Rodgers was calling the plays yesterday as there were no DoG flags. Some of the stupid shit I saw was Rodgers fckn around out there not taking the game seriously. When you're a Legend, you can do that. When the rest of your team can't tread water? Not even remotely entertaining. Especially to the poor souls that were out there freezing their asses off. I'm still hoping we get Vrabel as his return to NE isn't written in stone. If he did play us like Cousins did back in the day, good for him. When we got Parcells, folks had said he was an asshole to his players too. Perhaps that's the guy we need today. Rivera as a stop gap just to get some discipline into this roster is fine. He doesn't have to win 8.9 or 10 games. He does have to get this team to stop looking like amateurs on the field. If not Rivera, looks like we're headed to newbie land and that's where it gets dicey. Bring in an idiot like Gase or Saleh, that's the end of the road for me. I'll watch, but I won't be a "fanatic". Sorry boyz, but no Rex. There's a reason why he hasn't had a HC job since Buffalo. This isn't the 2010 NFL anymore. You can't blitz your way to the AFCCG as modern QB's can and will make you pay dearly for being blitz happy. Talking shit and not backing it up was big back in 2011. Not gonna work anymore. As the saying goes... Stay in your lane Rex. Your HC days are over. Stay an analyst on TV man. In closing, apathy has indeed set in. I was pretty much neutral on Rodgers and his 500th TD. Yay Rodgers... It will be a lot easier to just watch this team from a distance if Woody intervenes and fucks up this hire. If his dumbfuck teenage madden playing kids have ANYTHING to do with this? I will be done with Woody Johnson's NY Jets. I will put my Jets gear in the back of my closet and that's where it will stay until Woody sells the team. Enough is enough and I'm just about out of patience.. 2025... Rise or Die!!
I don't even know where to begin with this team and how to fix it. The Jets have to hit a HR with the hiring of the next GM/HC. Woody needs to STFU and GTFO when it comes to running the football operations and the same goes for his kid.
I know the season’s over and things look dreary, but I think this might be the most exciting time ever for us. Ladies and gentlemen, it’s Mike Tannenbaum time! He’s gonna find our savior! What a great time to be a Jets fan, thank you Woody!!
really disappointing season - firing Saleh when they did feels like a big mistake in retrospect - just have no faith in this team (and haven't for years) - what is needed is a huge culture change (as has happened with the Lions) because otherwise they are just going to remain the SOJs forever
What I say is that Ashtyn Davis is the player personification of the NYJ franchise: 8 solo tackles and 2 INTs in a meaningless game that only pads stats and costs the franchise its draft position, after being an absolute liability the rest of the season.
Echoing what many others have said, this is by far the worst season we have ever witnessed as fans. Hype v. Actual Product; massive disparity. Next year just set the expectations super low. At least we got the uniforms back to ‘normal’.
I came back from a long hike after being bundled up and frozen stiff and looked up the score hours later. That's the level of I don't care anymore. At least the Dolphins are out of it that's any consolation.
We should have suspected something with "all gas, no brake." Doesn't that sound like a car out of control? Well that's what we got.
At the 1st Jet game I went to (at Shea Stadium), Joe Namath threw a TD pass. This was AFTER the superbowl win.
