could be barry...but if it is there are pleny of witnesses...there is an amazing video of someone who was across from Kohrs when it started...they ran outside with their phone and watched this guy grab a water hose and run inside and try to put it out....a girl then goes running in and people are shouting to grab her out. I think it looked like it started in the back...perhaps their kitchen...and was as small that someone thought a garden hose with water would help...its all on video. Line of storms is less than an hour away..perhaps 40 minutes...it will help for sure...its going to pour there.
they mentioned several times the Saw Mill burned to the ground..many memories there. Indoor outdoor bar...10 cent hot dogs back in late 70;s early 80s...we would order 10 at a time for a buck. Sad..very sad...its the beginning of a long boardwalk that starts..or ends..in Seaside Park by that Kohrs...with games and pizza places....then the sawmill...before the real boardwalk kicks in. Won my first bong right next to Korhs.....true story...you could win a bong playing the wheels.
I've heard reports of at least 20 businesses that have burned to the ground and many more structures damages. I have also heard the Sawmill suffered outside damage but has not burnt down.
They're in a bit of a Catch-22 here regarding a rebuild. Fire-retardant Concrete would on the surface, seem to be the material of choice but the salt in the seawater would eventually break down the concrete. Fire-retardant, pressure treated Timber also has its problems both with sea salt and in this case, high temperatures. Point being, with this next rebuild, they will have to reconsider the type of materials used. The classic, all wood "board" walk might have to be scrapped in favor of a synthetic material which is both fire resistant and non reactive with saltwater.
Among the businesses that have been destroyed, 3 Brothers, Maruca's Tomato Pies, Carousel Arcade, Park Seafood, Jack & Bills They do say they have it under control....
