FTR I have not given up on Sanchez. I agree with the Sanchez Fans to some extent, that being that the Jet FO has let too many other variables cloud the picture of who and what is responsible for the O's underperformance, along with some questionable moves, such as trading for Tebow, that run counter to isolating the variable. Hunter, VD, lack of depth at wr and rb, TE's that are a mismatch with the stated offensive philosophy, all are factors making it difficult at the least to lay it all on Sanchez. About that we agree, I think. Where we tend to disagree is I just don't see the reason to have optimism in him going forward. Whether it's his fault or not he is not improving enough to have him locked in as the starting Qb for the foreseeable future. He's got the rest of this year to show that he should be locked in. I hope he does.
The reason I see something in him moving forward is because of the success he's had despite everything that gets heaped on him. Its not exclusively his success the same way it isn't exclusively his failure, but when you break down the moments that REALLY matter... the moments where it's most important that Sanchez be at his best... he's been very good. He's inconsistent, seems to have mental gaps, and still seems to shrink under pressure. He's flawed right now. I don't see those flaws as uncoachable though. Winners are hard to come by. For every winner you have a Tony Romo or a Philip Rivers... guys who light up the board and don't do jack. Cam Newton might be that next QB. You could maybe even say Matt Ryan or hell even RG3. They're all so young it's too early too tell but it isn't unprecedented that great QBs never win a Super Bowl. Dan Marino? I don't want Dan Marino. I'd be perfectly happy with Trent Dilfer so long as the Jets win the Super Bowl. Sanchez has WAY more potential than Dilfer ever did. It's also no accident that the Jets are 2-1 despite everything that has gone wrong. The Jets are 11th in scoring in right now. It's ugly, but with Sanchez there's usually a way something can be made from nothing.
