I was at the game watching Rex's fat ass walking down the sideline during a time out while Schotty was talking things over with Sanchez, dude!

I don't really understand the debate at this point.

The offense did not execute. The person directly responsible for the overall performance of the offense is the offensive coordinator. It's his job to have his offense running well game in and game out. Clearly this is not what happens on the Jets.

Whether you believe the problem in execution is Sanchez not throwing the ball well and making poor decisions. Whether you believe it is receivers not executing well and catching catchable balls. Whether you believe it is the offensive line not playing well enough to let the skill players execute well. Whatever you believe in the way of flaws in the players themselves the fact is that Schotty's unit blows chunks and has blown chunks repeatedly in his career as Jet's offensive coordinator.

Usually that means the offensive coordinator gets fired.

Can we just officially start referring to him as Safetyheimer?

Can't disagree that the team seems to have a lot of problems. Lack of leadership and discipline is striking. Holmes, Burress and Keller are all solid players. If they are all having challenges being consistently productive, the problem probably lies elsewhere in a common denominator. You can be a Sanchez fan or a Schotty fan, doesn't matter to me but it is pretty apparent that we have severe problems at QB, at OC or both. The D and a little luck breaking our way have covered over the deficiencies the last two years. We are again left this year hoping for breaks and luck.

    true story

niners defense is doing what our "top" defense should be doing, winning games

Alex smith just plain sucks, but he has a nice ground game with frank gore

I didn't realize it was that lopsided at first. That's inexcusable. Sanchez is a decent QB, but he's not near good enough to have that many attempts and completely carry the team. Greene was averaging 4+ yards a carry on the few he got. Simple math, Schotty. If the run game is working, USE IT. If the pass game is struggling, ADJUST THE GAMEPLAN. Schotty fails time and time again at this. I'm so sick of the 3rd and long runs as well. 3rd and 15 and you do a set up screen play on a play action fake with no blockers. Genius Schotty. All I want for Christmas is a new OC. The rest of the team has talent (except Hunter). If you can't get it rolling with that talent, you don't belong, plain and simple. I will be ecstatic if I find out he lands a job elsewhere as a HC. One less NFL team to worry about.

you're forgetting the 5 sacks ... so that's 64 pass plays called on a day when Sanchez clearly was not playing well, and was dodging pressure time and time again. INDEFENSIBLE.

The OP is 100% correct. The game was there to be won, and this imbecile decided to play to our weakness instead of our strength.
That idiotic sequence cost us the game, and most likely the season.

Schottenheimer's offense crew makes any suspect pass defense look like the re-incarnation of 1985 bears or the Ravens of the past decade on a regular basis - yet the blame always, ALWAYS goes to the execution. My cries have fallen on deaf ears. Schottenheimer might be drawing up the prettiest plays in the entire NFL (I know he doesn't, but just for the sake of the argument.) - but if the players cannot execute it properly (and it's been that way for good half decade by now) JUST WHAT GOOD IS IT????

The fact that Ryan hasn't fired this moron yet seems to be the only saving grace for SDF.

*But then, I have to question whether Ryan has such power to fire his OC - does that go to Tannenbaum? or Woody? I suspect it's either of the two and not Rex.*

Chiefs fired Haley for a breakdown on one series of plays in game vs. Jets
in a lost game and a lost season

Schotty's blunders on 1st & ten @ the 50 cost us the game & the season

Um - No but nice try. The Chiefs fired Haley because he's an over the top control freak who had completely alienated the team .

I think Greene must have been hurt. Its the only explanation that makes any sense at all.

Agreed on the overall reason, but the breakdown in the Jets game was the straw that broke the camels back

Likewise, Schotty has put together an impressive list of reasons why he should be canned

Yesterday's game was the straw that broke the camel's back

I agree Shotty needs to go, but his leaving is not going to fix the talent issues we have on this team. His replacement is not going to make Wayne Hunter into Anthony Munoz, he's not going to make Plax and Holmes into precise route runners. He's not going to give Dustin Keller hands. He's not even going to transform Mulligan into Ben Hartsock.

Personally, I feel Sanchez has been playing hurt since the Balt/Oak games. Last year they stretched the field a few times/game , this year I could count on both hands the times the Jets threw more than 30 yards downfield . Sure the Oline was a sieve , which was a factor , but there are always opportunities in a game ( ie 1st and 10 playaction) when you have time to throw deep even to our slow recievers. The fact that they never did this scares me that the problem with Sanchez was Physical.

Good post if Schotty goes, ball will be in Tanny's court for a talent upgrade
There are a lot of needs RT S OLB & WR IMHO

Funny you say that about Sanchez. Given the pounding he took in early season, I felt there was the possibility that he was hiding an injury also.

That's what I was thinking.....even asked my dad that question.
Was watching in a bar with a combo of JETS-Giants fans beginning their holiday festivities, so it was hard to hear the TV (with the volume all the way up) esp. in the 4th qtr.....

That has to be the only logical explanation.... isn't it?

Then again, 2008 in the snow vs Seattle starting 3 reserve linemen, no running game. Earlier that year vs the Raiders with the worst Run D in the league, but good D-backs.... pass all game. :eek:hmy:

I'm not defending the playcalling, but it's worth pointing out that if Holmes/Keller/Greene don't drop 5 easy first downs (and Sanchez doesn't overthrow McKnight on that wheel) then the game looks very, very different.

We definitely relied too much on the pass, but it doesn't change the fact that the players were in position to win but they shit the bed.
