I think a lot of people here are really underestimating the importance of continuity for a young QB. If Schotty doesn't get a head coaching offer then I would like for him to remain as offensive coordinator unless he completely botches a postseason game.

Shotty called a great game, probably his best of the season and maybe his best ever as an OC here.....

2 things that stood out though.

    - He continues to call the same patterns
    - His 4th Quarter calls reverted back to his conservative mindset.

When he is conservative he coaches as if the goal is to get as close to the goal line as possible. His priority becomes to eat up as much clock instead of putting points on the board.

Yesterday felt so refreshing until the 4th Q.

If he has called two excellent games in a row, why change the terminology for the young QB? I'd rather not. Why? See Alex Smith. 6 years I believe, and 6 different OCs. It makes a huge difference. We need to keep Schotty one more season to say the least for the sake of our franchise QB.

The 4th quarter change of play calling was an adjustment. I don't mind that. Our offense adjusted to make up for the D. It slowed the game down, and Cutler couldn't complete a single pass in the entire quarter. If your QB doesn't complete a pass, chances are you won't score. I'd take those odds any time. It was a good adjustment IMO. Even the announcers spotted it and said the Jets are trying to slow the game down.

Bill Callahan was one of the offensive coordinators in the league when he called plays for the Raiders.

Rich Gannon was able to completely turn around his career in Callahan's west coast scheme.

2 games in a row doesn't change the fact that, he's called some shady games time and time again ... when's he going to change? When is he going to utilize these WRs and TEs with maximum efficiency? What makes us think that he won't revert back to bad Schotty in the future?

I don't want Sanchez learning a new system either, but to maximize his potential we may have to take a step back before we take 3 steps forward ... is it worth that price is the question? If Schotty leaves and becomes a HC somewhere, are we really going to promote from within? We need someone that Rex can relate and understand.

A similar relationship like Sean Payton and Gregg Williams, those 2 are always on the same page despite one being offensively minded and the other being defensively minded

This is true, then we have to promote / find a new offensive line guy, and Callahan is one of the best in developing these offensive lineman, he needs to stay in this position, plus I don't like how he ended his tenure as a Raider even though he had a great offensive mind

Being an O-Line coach is his true calling IMO

Of course, Schotty will revert back. Hopefully not this season though. But who is to say the new OC will wreak havoc in the NFL with our offense? Grass is always greener on the other side.

    It depends, really.

If yesterday's game becomes the staple of Schottenheimer's offense, then I actually have no objection over his stay. (I'd prefer a few TD passes, but that aside, I am willing to accept 27 point offense under any circumstances.)

Bringing in Kubiak is a risky call - much more of a risk than bringing in Norv. Kubiak's offense is a WCO, and his lineage starts from Bill Walsh to George Seifert to Mike Shannahan. Say what you will, but if you all think the continuity is so much at premium (like some hell-bent Schotty supporters say it is), then this means Norv gets the nod over Kubiak.

That is the worst argument I have ever seen against promoting a coach. If we promotet Callahan from OLine to OC that doesn't mean he is not going to be involved in the OLine anymore and anyone we hire to fill his role is going to be there to teach Callahan's blocking schemes.

If anything, bringing in someone else from the outside would be a bigger risk to breaking the OLine's continuity. McDaniels and Turner would likely want to bring in their own guys.

I would love Norv Turner as the OC.. he's one of, if not the best offensive coaches in the league. Shotty has had 2 very good games in a row, and if he can continue calling plays and running the offense like this, he will probably be back.

Wouldn't mind Martz as the OC. I know he's not a ground and pound guy but who cares, he's a better pure offensive mind than Schotty, Kubiak etc

Also, Norv Turner may get head coaching offers (I can see San Fran trying going for him)

I thought his play calling with less than five minutes left was terrible. Greene should have been in the game, and he reverted back to predictable Shotty. Time for a change, bring in Turner.

I've really liked Schotty's playcalling the past few weeks. Wouldn't mind keeping him around for another season if he calls games the way he has recently. I just worry that he'll start to show off again and draw up some assholian plays that kill drives.

Unfuckingbelieveable! Best game he has called all year. Shotty gives me an ulcer from time to time but he is still the a great OC. When I hear Sanchez who had his best game ever in a Jet Uni diss him I will start to listen up.

McDaniels is the wrong person to bring in here, if you remember back in the late 90s early 2000s with the Broncos ... Gary Kubiak ran a zone blocking scheme for running the football, similar to the zone blocking we run sometimes here

Kubiak and Callahan would get along in that regard do you not agree?

One game does not support the fact that if the opportunity arises (Schotty leaves) then we should look at these offensive gurus

Sanchez won't diss Schotty during press conferences and to the media, that shit stays in the locker room

Schotty has one more season in January to prove he's actually learned something over the last five years and isn't as inconsistent as we think.

I've read the fan pages and local newspaper(s) for every single NFL team/city. The offensive coordinators for every team have been ripped this year with the exception of the Patriots, Saints, Indy (injury excuses), Rams (young QB), Falcons (great year), and Eagles (Vick).

Every other team's fanbase and/or press is giving the OC heat or the HC the business over the offense.

You want to see a team getting ripped, check out Canepa over at the SD Union Trib on Turner, Lopez on Kubiak at The Chronicle, and a few others.

Do I love Shotty ? No. Is he better than 1/2 the OC's in the league ? Definitely. Is he in the top 1/4 ? Probably.
