Seems like Schotty might have a decent shot with Pioli and Hunt. I think if the Coach changes go 8 or 9 deep, He may well get a chance somewhere. That brings up the second part of the question, what players might he target. I don't see many offensive opportunities for him. No notable unrestricted free agents and most of the skill players won't be available or won't fit that Bart Scott type key Ryan targeted. Keller might be most likely target. You could argue that Keller has more to offer than we are able to utilize and his value to Schotty in this scenerio might make a deal hard to pass up. I'd hate to see him go but while TE is very important in Schotty's offense, with Sanchez, we might be better off with less wide receiver and more tackle at the position. On Defense, Pouha, Leonard and Thomas might be targets. I think Pouha is our most under rated player but he will be 33 and we might not be willing to pay him what he could demand on a one or two year contract. Leonard has been one of Ryan's favorites but he will be 30 and is coming off two straight years ended by injury. He could be valuable to a Schotty lead team that wants to instill some Ryan techniques. Thomas is also going to be 33 and is coming off this year's injury. He may well be available for a reasonable cost. If Schotty were to get a HC job, it would end the OC debate but while it could provide us with some solid trade opportunities ala Mangini, it could also cost us a couple of older defensive players by raising their market value.
I'd have to tell you to hold your horses. Beating the likes of Jills, Foreskins or Chefs hardly counts as improving. EVERYBODY RAPES THEM LIKE A SCHOOLGIRL. If this offense beats Eagles and Giants, then I might say Schottenheimer is improving, but before that... don't even bother talking about it.
Look, I'm the last person to give Shotty praise, but the Redskins and Chiefs defense do not suck, in fact I'd rank both of them above average overall. We put up a season high in points allowed on both teams. Well done by Schotty and the offense these past two weeks.
You are not looking at the bigger picture. Season high? Yeah. Does that show the whole picture? The Redskins game went down to wire till the last minute - and the game went out of hand when Maybin wrecked Grossman. Till then the score was barely 20-16. Same story for the Chefs. The defense and special team aided a lot in creating short - at times, VERY short - field. Just it occurred much earlier in this game than it did against the skins. The point is, their offense was so horrendously bad and that worked in conjunction. For this reason I have said this offense - or team for that matter - has not beaten any legitimate team as of yet, and I will reserve my comments till after both Giants and Eagles game, as they are about the closest thing Jets have on schedule to 'legitimate' team. So am I supposed to think this offense turned the corner all of a sudden? Why should I start thinking like that?
