He can run straight ahead on kickoffs ok....but his problem is that he can't think and run at the same.
Do you have any evidence of this or are you just talking out of your _____? Schlegel's reputation is that he makes up for a lack of quickness with an ability to quickly read plays and get to the ball carrier. Can you point to any specific plays that support your thesis?
you are giving joejet maybe a lil more credit then he deserves(asking him to support his thesis? lol). when you look at Schlegels straight line speed and agility(as an offensive coordinator) you just drool over the opportunity to exploit him in single coverage on an island. Blizting Rhodes while Schlegel has coverage duties will not be a smart idea at all!
I wish and hope I am wrong about Schlegel. I am not a pro scout, MAYBE you are, but when I saw him out at Hofstra a couple of times in the summer he just seemed slow to me reacting to the ball (my opinion). Then in one of the preseason games he came in for one play I remember and stood flat footed for a few seconds before acting on the play in front of him and then he was pulled and disappeared until a couple of weeks ago on special teams.
Maybe you had him confused with another player. Schlegel played in all 4 preseason games. The second half of the first and second game, the 4th quarter of the Giants game, and the entire game against Philadelphia. He made 12 tackles in the preseason over about 9 quarters. The only play I saw him stand flat footed for was an extra point attempt. Schlegel on a WR is going to be a bad matchup -- it is for most LBs. Schlegel on a TE depends on the TE and whether or not the guy is running a deep pattern and whether or not Schlegel would have help over the top ifrom a safety.
I hope Schlegel becomes a monster in the 3-4 for the Jets...I believe he has the talent...the game (in his mind) just has to slow down a little bit (with experience)...
