So you're going to bash Edwards for being absolutely great year years ago, and then bring up Anquan Boldin's stats from seven seasons ago?

Braylon Edwards is WAY better than you're giving him credit for. The dropped passes pissed me off too, but I know what kind of talent he has. I know what he can do in this league.

The point of my post was that Edwards can be great. I want to see what he can do after a full off-season with the Jets.

Here's the difference between the two: Braylon Edwards is a New York Jet and Anquan Boldin is a pipe dream.

slot WR is the position of need. not another premier WR on a ground and pound team.

    this isnt going to happen

The more I think about it, the more this doesn't make sense. While it would be nice to have possibly three #1 WRs on this team, that's not how its done. We don't have the money to pay for all 3 of these guys, and they definitely would not get enough touches to earn the big money they would demand. We are a ground and pound team. I do see us going to the pass a little more next year, but not enough to grab a player like Boldin. I hope we take the 3rd and Boldin goes elsewhere. Cards are gonna suck next year with Leinart throwing the ball and the guy deserves better.

I wonder if changing the thread title changes the tone of the responses...

Mr. E, Braylon has a ton of talent, and it's pretty obvious the Jets are treating him like an elite receiver, hoping that he will become one and blossom here. He has the talent to be as good as any receiver in the league. But the fact is it's been two seasons now, and he has not come close to playing at an elite level. There's no reason he can't get back to an elite level, but he has to prove it first.

His hands drive me crazy. I'd rather have him than Boldin because his problems are mental and not physical, but Boldin is a better receiver right now. Edwards can absolutely prove that statement wrong though, and the Jets are banking that he does.

Give Edwards another year in this system and he will produce elite numbers. With a QB who is better than 26th in passing attempts, Edwards can do a lot of damage.

A lot of it is due to a rookie QB. I know Edwards' horrible drops stand out but give him some time with Sanchez and I feel that there will be a chemistry that could compare to Brady to Moss. Edwards has the heart and the skills to be elite at the position. If he had a full offseason with Sachez than this offense would have been much better in the passing game. He flashed his skills as a receiving option since his first game with the Jets and now that he and Schottenheimer have a season and an offseason with each other, Schottenheimer will know exactly how to use him.

If you want to make bust comments about Edwards, at least wait until a couple of games into this season first. That is when we will have enough evidence to use them. As of right now, Edwards really is a wild card in the Jets' offense.

That's with the QB who ranked 26th in the league in overall pass attempts. Give Edwards some time to develop chemistry with Sanchez while they both learn the full playbook. Sanchez to Edwards in 2010 is going to be much more potent than most people think. You can quote me and rag me on that if it does not come true. As of right now, I'm seeing two WRs between Cotchery and Edwards, with 1000yd seasons and at least 20 TDs between the two of them.

They should totally, like, do a really awesome 3-way trade, like, where the Cards get Rhodes, the Raiders get Boldin and the Jets' 1st round pick in 2011 and the Jets get Asomugha.

That would be totally unawesome. Never give up the next year's #1 pick, it's the worst move an NFL team can make.

The Raiders are going to produce a player that is so happy that he will be playing in New England for 2011.

a 1st is too much.. but if the Cardinals get Rhodes, the Raiders Boldin & Jets 2nd rd pick either this year or next year and we get Aso... I'd love that!

If we can give up only our 2nd round pick and get Asomugha, I would be all for that.

Unfortunately, I think your sarcasm detector is running low on battery life.

Indeed. make it the 2011 #2. Three team trades always work.

This is probably a load of BS considering that the 'scoop' is coming from a turd like Adam Schein instead of Rex's new BFF Jay Glazer.

    Plus...

...Adam Schein looks like a chimpanzee.

Yeah and you forgot all the awkward and untimely deep breathes he takes in the middle of sentences.

I'd think a huge difference between them is the question of blocking.

I know Braylon is a great blocker, and Boldin is said to be a good one, but the question would be who is willing to be a "#1 WR" in an offense that will be one of the most run-dependent in the league? Are both these guys willing to not only see their numbers and chances decline, but also to be invested on each and every running play as a blocker?

We know Braylon is because he not only said it last season, but gave us plenty of visual evidence on the field.

I love Boldin as a player, watching and cheering him at the bar on Sundays, but I have serious doubts about his willingness to permanantly move to an offense that will get him the ball less AND ask him to contribute as a blocker more often than as a WR. He's was unhappy with his touches in the AZ offense at times, so I don't think he'd be placated for long in a GNP offense.

I keep swinging back and forth on this. Really wouldn't want to become a pass-happy O.

From a pure talent standpoint Rhodes for Boldin looks liek a no brainer. Sadly things are never that easy.

Boldin wants a new, much bigger deal. That puts him in line with Mangold, Revis, Washington, Edwards now. In not much Longer Brick and Harris will be in range as well. This is far too much money on far too few players and I don't think we could keep them all if a cap system returns and may not keep them for financial reason even uncapped.

Rhodes for a 3rd? If the staff wants him gone that badly, I guess. That's a later round third and I hate to give up talent when we seem so close, even if its the biggest bitch to play DB west of San Deigo.

As for what to do with 3 receivers? Cotchery would fit into the slot perfectly. Very strong route runner, hands like glue, and the ultimate team player whos not afraid to take a hit. With Boldin and Edwards on the out side Cotch would be abusing Nickle backs all day. (remeber any thing with the words nuckle back or word Nickleback is complete trash) That woudl be a huge addition to our passing game.

Finally, for those who think because we ran 60% of the time last year we will again, I think you'll be mistaken. They did not draft Sanchez to hand the ball off. The kid is going to take a big role in the offense soon and the addition of weapos for him will only make that happen faster than expected.
