It would certainly put the Jets in a really tough spot. I honestly don't know if they could justify dealing Rhodes for a 3rd if they don't have something reasonable in the works. A thought may be that they might be considering moving Lowery to safety? It was a thought a lot of people were high on last year, but it's kind of been on the backburner since Leonhard was brought in. They still have Strickland and could find another corner who gets released to compete for the 3rd spot, but they would pretty much be requiring they draft a corner to start from day one. I still think they'd be best off going all out for Antrel, he'd be the perfect replacement for Kerry.
Sign Rolle....trade rhodes for boldin straight up..... get odrick with our first pick.....and try and get mccourty with our second
Tim Graham, the ESPN blogger for the AFC East, said in his chat he was on a conference call with Mike Tannebuam to talk about the Antonio Cromartie trade, and he indicated Kerry Rhodes will be back next year. Also mentions somewhere Mr. T said before the Cromartie trade the Jets were probably going to draft a CB. I'm assuming within the first 2 rounds based on the trade we made how important it was to upgrade the position. http://espn.go.com/sportsnation/chat/_/id/31100
And the Patriots respond to the Cromartie signing. (reguarding Boldin) The Chiefs also in the mix. It's funny that two Baltimore reports have the Pats as the favorites, possibly to drive up the price on the Ravens. If the cost is still a third-rounder, Boldin is a no-brainer. His next team has him under contract cheaply for the 2010 season with a year to work out a contract. If no deal can be reached, the cost was still just a third-rounder for one season of a possible difference-maker.
The Cardinals got a 3rd and 4th round pick this year from the Ravens. So now they have their 1st, 2nd, two 3rd, and two 4th rounders. Id absolutely be willing to hear offers for Rhodes now, because we very possibly could land two middle round picks for him. Then still have time to take a shot at a free agent safety or even drafting someone in the first.
OJ Atgowe(Rams) - right of refusal tender Antoine Bethea(Colts) - 1st round tender Dawan Landry(Ravens) - 2nd round tender Those would be the top three. The Jets have reported interest in Bethea, but I would rather see them go after Atogwe since he would not require any compensation to the Rams. Landry is more expensive but he's younger and is already familiar with Rex's defensive system. He would be able to come in without missing a step in TC.
I'd love Dawan, but that 2nd round tender just makes you say, No. I'm sure Landry would love to play for Rex again though.
Just for information's sake, the Jets can trade for a RFA for something other than what they were tendered for. For example if the Ravens can't resign Landry and no one's biting on the 2nd round tender, the Jets could offer something else.
