Shit's already changed. We tried Tanny's way of spending all of the money right away and it failed to win us a Super Bowl. Now we are trying Idzik's way of saving the money until the team has enough pieces set that they are ready to make the jump. This is the Seahawks way, which is what everyone supposedly wants. Seahawks recent Records. 2010 - 7-9 2011 - 7-9 2012 - 11-5 2013 - 13-3 + Super Bowl. The Seahawks have only been really good for 2+ seasons now. Those 2010 and 2011 teams had Sherman, Thomas, and a bunch of other key players that they have now on them, they just were incomplete. Sound Familiar?
Nothing has changed. Idzik came from Seattle, yes. Was Idzik in charge of personnel decisions in Seattle? NO. He was a cap guy in Seattle. Schneider is the mastermind behind the building of the Seahawks roster, not Idzik. Did Idzik play a little role? Sure. But to act like he was the architect in Seattle is delusional at best. Secondly, stop comparing the Jets to Seattle. The teams are nothing alike. If Idzik is such a shrewd talent evaluator then why did he reach to draft a CB in the 3rd round who would've been available much later? That doesn't sound like the same guy who was able to find All World CB Richard Sherman in the 5th or 6th round. Don't drink the Idzik Kool-aid about his impact in Seattle, Schneider is the guy who gets the large majority of credit for the Hawks as he should.
I like A.S. a lot. He's usually pretty on point, but "sources" and "some in the organization" just isn't enough to make an article on. That's straight out of the Cimini/Mehta school of journalism. There may be some truth to it, but as fans we deserve more than this.
Our impatient fanbase is going to hate Idzik regardless. It was never going to be a fast rebuild. It sucks in the short term but no matter who we signed we would never have won a superbowl this year. Im willing to be realistic and wait for a potential superbowl caliber team instead of trying to field the best team possible this year.
The only players on the team who have a right to complain about a lack of talent are the defensive linemen, and I seriously doubt it was them. I also can't imagine David Nelson saying, "I have no business starting. Idzik should have gone after another receiver." I also don't see Rex saying anything. If true, this reeks of pissed off assistant coaches. As far as Idzik goes, I think it's too early to judge him. Let's see what he does after the season. The Jets' first three draft picks need to be an offensive guard, a receiver, and a cornerback. And it wouldn't hurt to grab a receiver in free agency too, like Maclin. Imagine this offense with Maclin, Amaro, Decker, Kerley, and whatever rookie they would go with.
Woody Johnson hired him and come look at his business pedigree. We are talking about a guy who graduated from the University of Arizona. Nuff said!
Manish. You shouldn't be hacking Schefter's account. Moreover, Pettine now works for the Browns. Enough with anonymous bullshit already.
Jesus christ have you ever bothered to read what his job was with Seattle? Or the hierarchy of that team when he was there???? Pete Carroll was in charge of all football decisions, and John Schneider, the GM, was in charge of making it work under the cap. They also had other guys in player personnel and scouting. Idzik was a second tier administrator who did what the actual decision makers told him to do.
You're right, some fans want us to be a 6 to 9 win team forever....the ones who refuse to criticize a shitty gm. Idzik's strategy keeps us at 6 to 9 wins, but hey, at least we are saving money for Geno's future contract renewal.
the Seahawks outside of Seattle are a mediocre 50:50 team - take away the insane home field advantage that they enjoy and they are nothing special as a team.
teams that win consistently are those that get lucky in the QB lottery - which is something the Jets have never managed - and that has nothing to do with wanting to win or desire.
Yeah but we get to use the money next year..and when we sit in our office jerking off we then can use that money the following year..because thats what you do when you have no secondary..you build it through the draft in the 3rd round...and I mean dbs. Walls..how about the people that have defended this piece of shit...and do I still see Kyle Wilson 20 yards off his receiver? But thats ok we are rebuilding..with an all pro defensive line and and offensive line that is on the wrong side of their career with perhaps 3 to 5 left...we are rebuilding. We go out and get the best back up qb available..the best wide receiver available..gamble on Chris Johnson but when it comes to the position that takes the longest to develop...CB...WE ARE REBUILDING...and we get to use that cap money next year..next year when we do not even know if we have our future qb yet. So patience everyone...we are rebuilding...with one of the best front 7s in the game..and one of the best rushing teams in the game...we have time to go into this season and not even pick up a couple decent dbs. Nobody was saying overpay or break the bank. What a fucking joke. Take your time Idzik....Woody needed that extra 20 million in his pocket because I hear the sales of baby powder are down 3 percent. up and down the field like its a joke and Johnson isnt even playing..but that God Tate just got his FOURTH 100 YARD GAME...4TH.
I think it has more to do with evaluating talent than luck... sure it can play a part but this franchise can't evaluate talent for shit
Assistant coaches giving anonymous quotes to the media? Not like that would be a first in the Rex era.... Ironically it's probably Rex loyalists who are going to be upset this team's going 5-11 when it could easily have been 11-5. And Rex is going to get fired unless the fix is REALLY in with Woody wanting to keep him.
I'm fed up with the stupidity of the franchise. Last chance to tie the score, 9 yrds to Amaro, 2nd down gets stufeed, and then they trow a pass to a guy who is known to have poor hands. Then they punt, and don't get the ball back. Just one stupid fucking team.
