That can be done in one or two off-seasons...Ryan signed a 4-year deal. Looks to me like the Jets will be playing for the NFL title in 2011 and 2012.
So it would seem that there is not a chance in hell that Ryan hasn't already spoken with Schottenheimer no matter what he or Tannenbaum may say. The only deduction that can be made from that is that he (Schottenheimer) is thinking it over and most likely will leave.
Zampese would seem to have the track record to come in with something. I still want a power running offense to go with Rex's defense.
We need another RB for that to happen. Maybe Moreno if he is still there. Jones and Washington won't be enough for a run first offense.
How well do run of the mill fans really know assistant coaches around the NFL? Coaches on the other hand are well aware of the reputation of many people throughout the league. Assistants aren't bad because they are on a bad team. Personally, I don't know anything about this guy... so I can't comment one way or the other. If Rex feels he's the best guy for the job, then I have no qualms about it.
Ryan said he wants an all weather offense. What does Zampese know about that coming from Cincinatti for the last 5 years where they throw the ball 9 out of 10 times (or so it seems anyway)?
I know some guys love to see points on the board, I however would rather see us score 20 and hold the opposition to 10, we do not need a high powered offense, we need an offense that can control the clock by running the ball, and score when they reach the redzone, if we want to become a consistent playoff team and superbowl contender year in year out, we have to run the ball, and Mike Martz is not a run oriented OC please keep him away from this organization...Please!!!
I can't see how Ryan would want to keep Schotty. Not to be the conspirator, but ever consider sabotage? What if BS deliberately stalls the O so Ryan gets fired and then Schotty becomes the new head coach. Dang, I read too many books.
WTF you talking about dude? Sutton was not promoted for continuity, I'm not sure why he was but it certainly wasn't for continuity as you suggest. Are you forgetting that we completely changed defensive schemes when Mangini was hired? As for Schott, it seems like Ryan does really want to keep him on & I would bet once Schotty stops sulking aout not getting the HC job he will realize he is in the best position for him to eventually become a HC.
In that case BS will be tossed before Rex does, and he won't be getting any good offers coming his way. Its in his best interest to put together a real show-piece on offense if he wants to get ahead in the NFL
How can anyone have an opinion on the Bengals QB coach????? You guys are bunch of whinning women. Go away!!!!!
First of all hi! I'm new to the ganggreen forum.. i'm a fan of the Jets from Italy (ok no one gives a damn) I agree with the first part of the quote. How can you evaluate someone who as never coordinated any team? You don't know if the bad decisions made in Cincinnati are partly his fault or only the OC's one. The only thing I can see is Palmer developed prety well and Fitzpatrick (although a shitty QB) quite survived the NFL test by the end of the season. Having said that i would like someone who has already coordinated an offense. Hue Jackson would be good but i guess keeping Schotty at least for this year would be our best option. So if he does good we win something and he can look for a HC job, if he does bad whe can fire him and move on. In this way Rex can concentrate on Defense this year and not on offense as well since there would be continuity.
This seems to illustrate Zampese's background. I thought Ryan wanted a predominantly running game. How does a QB coach tied to the 'greatest show on turf' get you that? This concept is hurting my head. I'm sure I'm missing something here.
Maybe they know each other well and communicate. I would guess that QB development would be high on Ryan's radar and that looks to be his strength
He probably understands that a great passing game is much more difficult to come by than a great rushing game. If you can compliment a smash mouth running attack with a potent aerial assault, good luck stopping that offense.
Here's Matt Ryan's stats from this season.....just because a rookie could be running the show, doesn't mean that automatically insinuates "shitty results". SPLIT CMP ATT YDS CMP% YPA LNG TD INT SACK RAT 2008 265 434 3440 61.1 7.93 70 16 11 17 87.7
