Those of us who are against Vick don't need to get over anything. We have our priorities in order about what's most important in life. I'm sorry that some of you have priorities that are askew, and are practically willing to sell your soul in order to win a few football games. When it gets to the point where winning football games is more important than basic human values and civility, some of you need to step back and take a hard look at yourselves. You mostly seem like good guys, and I hope that at least some, if not all, of you will re-examine your priorities. You, this board, and the world will be better for it.
What's most funny is that the crowd screaming about what's most important in life and human civility don't seem to have problems with players who have killed, raped, and assaulted PEOPLE. It's the dogs that really makes them make a stand about what's important in life. Excuse me if I find that retarded.
He has done his time and paid his debt to society. If he can play, I have no problem with the Jets giving him a shot....
I've read a few of these posts that are OK with Vick coming in as strictly the back-up. No way is Vick going to sign up with Jets unless he can compete to be the starter. Why would he go there to do that? If he just wants to be a back-up (and I don't think he does), I'm sure Seattle and San Fran would love to have him for just in case...
Pretty spot on as to how I feel. If the Jets really wanna get past the "circus" tag, signing Vick is a move in the opposite direction...
The retarded thing is your strawman argument. You just made that up and project it on a whole loose group of people to bolster your position here somehow...and it doesn't work. So you are saying that I don't seem have problems with players that have killed people? :rofl2:
People in general have been far more outspoken and outraged by Vick than say, Ray Lewis or Pacman Jones or Roethlisberger or Dante Stallworth or Brandon Marshall or Leonard Little or any number of dirtbags.
Yeah it's pretty ridiculous. I wouldn't condone violence against animals in any sense but a lot of people are acting like Vick is Hitler 2.0 and every other player in the NFL is an angel who has never so much as returned a library book late. This league is filled with guys with DUIs, drug chargers, weapons charges, assault charges, allegations of rape, murder and who knows what else. So either you are a complete hypocrite or you value the lives of dogs over human beings, either way nothing you say holds much weight.
That's not true. You pointedly asked me about Roethlisberger and I answered that question clearly. I may not always be consistent on every issue, but on the issue of sports vs. crime/character, I am. I cannot root for people that I feel have no character, are low-lifes and/or criminals.
You're talking to me here, not "people in general," whatever that's supposed to mean to you. Whatever. Nice strawman...and two wrongs make a right in your book? Personally, I DO have a problem with things other players did. I take that on a case-by-case basis. I wouldn't want Pacman Jones on my team either, for instance. With Vick, we are talking about a DELIBERATE intent to torture, maim, and murder living creatures for his own entertainment...he did it over and over and over again as part of his lifestyle. It wasn't an isolated incident or a mistake, it was entirely intentional and it lasted over YEARS where he did it all the fucking time to countless helpless animals, whose capacity to feel pain is no different from that of a person. That's pretty fucking despicable. It has nothing to do with whatever else happened in the entire history of the universe. QB is the face of your franchise, more or less, as well. Acquire Vick, and see the circus compound itself.
My comment that you responded to wasn't specific to just you. It was a general comment. You really should stop watching football if you know what's important in life. Their are too many scumbags that you might accidentally find yourself cheering for and that would be tragic.
I'm not trying to justify what Vick or any other NFLer who has done terrible things in their lives have done. Vick probably should still be in prison for what he did but because he's rich and famous he got out early, that's just the world works. Personally I'm not even necessarily in favor of getting Vick and if we do get Vick I'm not necessarily buying a Vick jersey, naming my first born Vick and taking up dog beating as a pass time. If we do acquire Vick and he does play QB for us I will, however, cheer when he throws a TD and be excited for every win my team puts together. I'm not going to abandon my love of the team and the sport because one guy in particular was a huge douche. If you think differently then that's your prerogative but don't come in here on your high horse acting like anyone who doesn't protest outside Metlife if we pick up Vick is a horrible person with no moral compass.
nobody is obligated to get over it just because he served his penalty, and there isn't a reasonable criticism of anyone who chooses to hold onto it. I am not condemning anyone for not caring about what he did, just as I think it is ridiculous for anyone to criticize someone for caring. I'm not condemning you for your preference, just stating that when your position is that you don't care about any ethical or moral deficiencies in the players as long as they help you gain the emotional satisfaction of seeing your team win, than that fits into the concept of lacking integrity. the problem with your above example is that for most players we have no idea what their personal issues may be, so it is irrelevant. with Mike Vick we know, and some people would rather sacrifice their own emotional satisfaction of seeing the Jets win if it means having to support someone whose own moral compass has been proven to differ from theirs.
LOL, there you go again. We are talking about VICK here, not anybody else. You act like the NFL is packed-full of felons, and that somehow excuses Vick. Talk about VICK. Vick and a friend swung a failed fighting dog over their heads like a jump rope and killed it by repeatedly slamming it into the ground. That's ONE of the things he did over a period of YEARS. They rescued like 50 to 70-something dogs when he got busted, so who knows how many he tortured and killed or was otherwise responsible for...easily hundreds probably. Dunno. How ugly and cruel is all that? Sell that to your kids. I never even SUGGESTED anything of the sort. "High Horse?" Get real, I never judged anybody that thinks differently than me about having Vick as a QB. Just that I strongly disagree. I'm talking about what I think about having Vick on my team, and that's it.
