It seems it's the act of wanting the scumbag on the team that he's arguing about, not the fact that I watch the team with the scumbag. So if you rooted for Robert Downey Jr. to be the lead actor in the next leg of a series you're interested in that would be a better analogy ... I think. Or something.
I don't understand. Robert Downey Jr. plays a fictional character in a movie--that's what I care about in being entertained--not the man behind the character. Like any entertainer, isn't that what matters--the character that that entertainer plays on the TV, the screen, the stage? So now I'm a bad guy if I want a dirtbag entertainer to entertain me with the fiction he portrays while entertaining me? I'm not inviting him over for dinner or asking him to watch my children. Seems weird. _
No, No, No, and I'm pretty sure NO! He had his chance at a comeback, what values is he gonna mentor Smith with? "Don't get caught hanging, shooting beating and fighting dogs" Not the kind of person we need on the rebuilding JETS.
If it's an open competition Vick will beat out Geno. Geno will get the starting job back around week 10 when Vick gets his annual injury. Vick seems like he may fit better somewhere with no QB. Browns, Jacksonville, Houston etc... Would love to see us take Murray from GA. I have seen projections with him as low as a fourth round.
First off, most here need to get over the dog incident. That shit was years ago. He did his time, move on. I know how most love their dogs but cot-damn ya'll still make it sound as if he killed a dozen humans. Second, No to Vick. The first time he gets tackled he'll be out for the season. Also he wont come cheap despite him being made of glass. Also if he does come here WHY would he be on the bench assuming Sanchez is gone (which would help in bringing in Vick)? Vick is >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Geno when healthy.
He'd be a cheap option, at least a legitimate backup, still need to draft a QB, in the 3rd or 4th, need a good competition
No, I don't have to get over it. Doesn't matter if it was years ago. Also doesn't matter that he did his time as you say. That doesn't erase what he did. Also, your analogy is stupid. It's nothing like killing a dozen humans and nobody is treating it as such. However, torturing, and killing dogs for fun is a sick, twisted, disgustung thing to do. People shouldn't have to get over it or forgive just because you think so.
Not getting over it is something that females do to men. Men having an emotional attachment is real weak and keeps your eyes off the prize. Winners and leaders know that you need to have the best people available to get the job done. That's all that matters and that's the only thing that should matter when it comes to football. If you aren't talking about making the jets better then you don't want to win bad enough. Besides every American family has some shit stains in their bloodlines. Talking as if you are better is just that... Talking.
We don't "need" to do anything. What you and the others fail to realize is that it isn't just about our being dog lovers. Yes, I think dogs are cool animals, but have never owned one myself, so that has nothing to do with it. Rather, that incident revealed something about his character. Things like that aren't just out of the blue, random incidents that are totally out of a person's normal character, but instead reveal what a person's true character or nature is like. If it hadn't been dog fighting and killing the dogs, it would have been drugs, or being a criminal or despicable excuse for a human being in other ways. He didn't wrong me personally, so I have nothing to "forgive" him for. In terms of his sentencing, he got off very light, so I don't even think he has paid his debt to society if we're talking only about "punishment." While he has kept his nose clean (at least as far as I know) since then, that probably has more to do with not going back to jail and/or being able to resume his NFL career than it does with some sort of rehabilitation or character growth or improvement. In terms of his football ability, I think he would bring nothing to the table. I never thought he was all that as a QB. He was an amazing athlete and ball carrier and had a strong arm, but was always a running QB who sometimes threw the ball. He wasn't particularly accurate, patient in the pocket allowing routes to develop, nor was he known for his leadership skills. He would be expensive and expect to start, and is physically at the point where he is injury prone, and that is not in the best interest of the Jets. They need to get some offensive playmakers, give Geno a ton of reps, and give him every opportunity to develop into their QB of the future. I don't believe there's much he could learn from Vick even if Vick were the mentoring type, which I don't believe he is. While their other young players are developing, the 2014 season is the time to find out about Geno. Vick is not the future. Geno may not be, either, but we have to find that out now so that they can begin looking for who they think can be. You should have just stayed "mute" on this subject, because you show your ignorance and lack of character.
People should still despise Vick as a person. Just because the law said he needs to go to prison for 2 years and now he's a changed man doesn't mean people have to agree with that. They can hate him for the rest of his life and who are you to tell them otherwise? Some people like dogs more than humans anyway. I, for one, despise him for what he did, but I'd be open to him being a Jet because I see no lack of integrity from just wanting to field a good football team. Also, thank you for making me look up what the hell "cot-damn" meant.
for myself, I tend to agree, somewhat, with those who question Vick's personal morality and integrity. I have gone back and forth somewhat on this issue over the years, but now believe more in the notion that sports figures SHOULD serve as role models, for children and really everyone. QND going to jail hardly means you have become a different person. but I don't feel all that strongly about it, since I don't know what is really going on with Vick, in his head as it were. Maybe he has changed. I simply have not focused on it, since the main tning about him is he has become too prone to injury. This fact makes him arguably the worst vet to match with Smith - he's good enough for sure to beat Smith out of the starting job, but probably won't stay on the filed the whole season. So Smith sits on the bench, watching a guy play who we don't want Smith to emulate. Then at some indeterminate point in the season, Smith will go in there to replace an injured Vick. Now I am not personally invested in Smith like too many here, but even to me that all seems like a rather unpromising scenario. if the Jets go vet at Qb, at least get someone who is not fragile.
Vick was a smuck back in the day. There's no excusing his actions, but at the same time if a guy has changed and matured he shouldn't be held hostage forever for the mistakes of his past. He appears to have matured. I like his approach to football, especially last year - he played for the love of the game again and let's not overlook the leadership role he had on the Eagles this past year. I think he set a good example for Foles. That Riley Cooper incident could've torn that locker room apart - the Media sure tried to make it tear them apart anyway - but Vick was there saying we all make mistakes, he's the last guy that needs to condemn a teammate for a mistake and that he accepted his apology/work ethic and that Cooper was alright in his book. That was leadership right there. It took maturity and guts to do that, and as the starting QB at the time, that helped keep that locker room together through the storm.
No thanks on Vick. Complete recipe for disaster. Forgot about all the off the field nonsense. He couldnt possibly stay healthy. It would destroy what little confidence Geno Smith has.
