The Dolphins are gonna be the second best team in the divison next year. They already signed Wallace , Elerbe, and now Keller will likeley leave. We need Keller we have no weapons as it is
At this point that means very little. Seems like they're following the same blue-print that failed once before. Remember their last franchise QB, Henne, that they paired with Marshall and overpaid for a LB'r named Dansby? More than likely Ellerbe is the next Bart Scott and Adalius Thomas that failed when they left an elite defense for BIG money elsewhere. In defense of Scott he was productive in his role initially but became a liability after that. There are certain teams whose FO's always seem to let a guy go at the right time, the Ravens and the Steelers are certainly two of them. Good thing the Dolphins FO is smarter than both of them...
Keller is a little above average as a receiving TE, nothing special. If he wants to get paid like a top TE, let Miami's GM who is in the last year of his contract overpay for another guy.
He will be a tough loss, but our offense will be stagnant regardless. I'm more worried about our defense because we suck against TEs and Keller might do really well against us 2 games a year.
Letting Keller go will be a huge mistake. I really hope he doesn't end up on an AFC east team. That would be the worst.
Disagree. Sometimes when something doesn't work the best thing to do is blow it up and start from scratch. This situation applies to the Jets passing game. Losing Keller is addition by subtraction.
I agree with the majority of what you are saying but the Ravens made Ellerbe the top priority (after Flacco) so he was in demand.
Actually the Steelers wanted Wallace back but he turned their offer down and Ellerbe was close to a deal with the Ravens, who considered him a must signing, when the Dolphins stole him away. Both are excellent signings and like any signing, have nothing to do with past signings. If you want to smash the Dolphins at least get your info right.
That isn't completely accurate. They did not want to pay him over $10 million a year, so their "offer" didn't come close to what Miami is (over)paying him.
that play is fused to my brain forever. in fact the whole game is...we opened so well, especially defensively, then shonn greene fumbles and the ending Keller mental failure. Very frustrating loss (a game we really should have won), that likely was forgotten a bit given how the season ended up going.
Just like someone stated in another thread on here: The Steelers are an organization that knows exactly what they are doing, especially with player evaluation. They don't just let players go like that. They did this for a reason.
They did want him back and unfortunately we had to overpay a little to get him. They have a proven history with Holmes, Porter, Faneca, Plaxico, etc to move at the right time but I think it was the fact that the Dolphins bid so high on him.
The Dolphins were the 2nd best team in the division last year at 7-9. 2nd best in a division with NE isn't saying much.
Their offer was made before the start of free agency, has nothing to do with being oubid. Did the Dolphins overpay?? Yeah I think so. But someone was going to and I am damn glad it's Miami that did. That's the way the NFL works.
Four years into his NFL career. You don't let a true over the top WR leave as he is entering his prime. Again, they couldn't afford to keep him and were not going to. That is the way they have always done business.
