Hopefully this false report has scared the shit out of Holmes. Oddly enough this is actually GOOD that a fake report was published. Maybe Holmes will understand people are all over his ass. (AP) - Authorities at Pittsburgh International Airport filed an incident report after New York Jets wide receiver Santonio Holmes failed to follow flight regulations by not turning off his iPod as the plane he was on was landing. Jets spokesman Bruce Speight said Friday the team was told Holmes was flying from Newark Liberty International Airport to Pittsburgh on Thursday night. He added that the report was filed with the Allegheny County Police Department after Holmes' flight landed. Holmes got off the plane and police officers reminded him of complying with flight regulations, but the wide receiver was not charged with anything. Allegheny County police said in a statement that Holmes was not removed from the flight, contrary to some published reports. "He was asked to remove his iPod (at one point), in which he complied," the statement said. Coach Rex Ryan downplayed the incident, saying it "kind of got blown out of proportion, it sounds like, in some of the media outlets." He added that he hadn't heard all the facts. "I mean, OK, let's face it, he should turn off his iPod," Ryan said. "That's what he should do. I mean, he should do that. I haven't had a chance to talk to Santonio, but he certainly should do that." Ryan said Holmes was on another flight to Las Vegas on Friday with some of his Jets teammates, who were going to watch the Floyd Mayweather Jr.-Shane Mosley fight on Saturday night. "Thanks for the support but some people just want to make their name blow up!" Holmes said on his Twitter page Friday afternoon. "Well congratulations!" Ryan said he has been happy with Holmes so far, complimenting his work in classroom sessions and the weight room. http://m.apnews.com/ap/db_16008/contentdetail.htm?contentguid=ZceGN4kd
I don't have any concerns with this guy on the field (unlike another receiver). It all has to do with whether or not he can keep his nose clean. Based on what happened today, it looks like that's going to take a lot more effort from Holmes than he's displayed in the past.
I travel for work non stop and I always keep my ipod on.. See, I know enough about RF energy to know I'm not f'ing with the takeoff and landing. As far as the pot goes, smoke some more man. I know enough about pot to know that it doesn't effect a player's game.. This is BS.
Are his PR people affiliated with the Allegheny County Police Department? You are always one of the biggest alarmists on this board. I don't like Holmes and his punk-ass routine, but the media was hair-triggering this guy into a 1 year suspension.
You're missing the point here. Holmes isn't in a position where he can afford to be stupid. How much intelligence does it take to know you listen to a freaking stewardess? No one thinks Holmes is an evil person, but the perception that he's a dumbass that breaks rules because he doesn't pay enough attention to know that they are just gained some credit.
As long as he keeps himself on the field from October onward, he can drive down the wrong side of the street on the sidewalk for all I care.
It's stupid that Holmes should be prejudiced just because he plays in the NFL. Based on his previous record I can understand some prejudice, but I don't think it's fair that Holmes listening to his iPod when he's not supposed to should be treated like a felony.
You'll flip those shits if he doesn't act like a "good person" and Goodell (who values the image of his product above all else) comes down on him. His job is also to not get in trouble off the field. I don't know what you do for a living, but if you made a habit of being on the wrong side of the law, would you experience any repercussions? I know I sure as hell would.
You should care, that kind of driving might get him hit with a suspension. He's on pretty thin ice already considering he's got a 4 game suspension he's going to be serving. You jokingly compared him to Burress earlier, but that's not a great analogy considering Burress had his 1 (VERY RETARDED) incident and that was his first. Holmes needs to keep his nose clean. Does this one incident mean he can't/isn't doing that? It means nothing that we can say definitively at this point. Still, it's not an especially promising sign. Hopefully this scares him straight. Having said that, I think this is his only season in NY and he can probably do whatever the hell he wants after come March.
Email Print Share By Jane McManus Police officers were called last night to meet Santonio Holmes' plane from Newark to Pittsburgh. We have a story on the incident here. This afternoon we got a copy of the police report from the Allegheny County Police Department. I've transcribed so that you can see it for yourself. “On Thursday April 29, 2010 at 21:00 hours, aircom requested officers to gate D-77 for a report of an incident aboard the aircraft no other information was available. Myself and Officer XXX arrived and spoke to flight attendant XXX of Colgan Air who stated that a passenger wouldn’t turn off his ipod when requested to do so and requested officers to speak to him. The passenger was identified as Santanio [sic] Bernard HOLMES XXX. He was advised that all instructions from the flight crew must be adhered to during flights, a TSA regulatory agent was unavailable and determined to be unnecessary for this matter. HOLMES stated he understood and the matter was resolved. Detail completed without incident at 21:15 hours.” Today, the department sent an email to clarify incorrect reports. Here is that email. "As previously reported, Santanio Holmes [sic] was NOT removed from any airplane (4/29/2010). He was asked to remove his Ipod (at one point), in which he complied. There’s no further information to report." The Jets wide receiver may cause the Jets headaches this year if he doesn't change the behaviors that got him traded by Pittsburgh for a fifth-round pick, but this isn't the incident that brings him down. “I know what has been told to me and it kind of got blown out of proportion it sounds like in some of the media outlets and things,” Jets coach Rex Ryan said as he addressed reporters during the team’s rookie minicamp. No doubt Holmes is on notice, however, that he is under scrutiny in New York.
