The argument of whether we should or shouldn't "give up" on Sanchez is irrelevant. In the short-term it's pretty clear that we can't. He is obviously returning as our starting QB for at least next season and maybe the one after that.

In those 2 years that Eli had very similar numbers and record, what was the Giants defense and rushing rated?

I know what ours was, and Sanchez still couldn't simply manage games.

    Ok I had to look
    Giants Defense and Rushing rank
    2005: D-26th / Rush-6th
    2006: D-25th / Rush-7th

So Mark has had a FAR superior defense and a #1 and #4 ranked rushing attack and put up the same numbers as a good QB, what is this suppose to prove?

The fact that Eli and Brees have had rough starts to go on to be elite is just like the other guy said, very rare. Sanchez does not have the football IQ these other guys have, not to even mention the other atributes. He never showed anything at USC or in the NFL to make us believe he has the ability to be great one day, just flashes of mediocrity.

The Giants were ranked 14th and 24th in defense in 2005 and 2006. They were ranked 6th and 7th in rushing in the two years with 2,209 and 2,156 yards respectively.

They were ranked 3rd on offense overall in 2005 with Eli completing 52.8% of his passes and committing 26 turnovers. That's what having a back like Tiki Barner in his prime and receiving options like a primetime Paxico Burress and Jeremy Shockey will do for you. Amani Toomer was the second receiver.

Despite that showing in 2005, when the Giants went 11-5 and had the 3rd ranked offense, they fired Hufnagel after 2006 because Eli just wasn't progressing well enough. They got a Super Bowl trophy out of the move.

you can look up rankings all you want, this D was not a big time D the last 2 years and they blew a ton of games late.

Anyone who argues QBR stats can suck a bag of dicks. The whole bag.

Tim Tebow has a QBR of 125.6 with a completion percentage of 47.6% and 2 TDs.

    Sanchez has a 95.5 for 2010 and a 92.7 for 2009.

    QBR is a joke.

Everyone who says he's been awful for 3 years or has only shown flashes of mediocrity K's clearly ignoring about 3/4 of the jets wins and a few of the losses. You cannot got 11-5 despite your quarterback.

every D will have a bad moment or game but the last 3 years:

    2009:

    blow late lead at Miami
    blow late lead vs. Jax
    blow late lead vs. Atl
blow double digit lead to Indy in title game

    2010:

blow double digit lead at Chi
allow Pitt to control title game, couldn't give O one shot late to win it.

    2011:

wouldn't allow O to get back in both NE games and oak game
    blow lead at Den

They get beat in big spots too consistently to be a true big time D. Are they good? sure but not big time, they have had big time moments but they just are consistent enough.

We've been more successful with Mark than Atlanta with Matty Ice. And they have a better running game, better receivers, and a damn good D.

Is Matty Ice the problem? Maybe if they had Sanchez they would be more successful?
