The offensive line has been weak at the guards, but it is more than that. We saw this with Sanchez, Mangold has to call the protection while also listening to Geno's cadence, and since Geno is always 3 yards back from center, he also has to concentrate a lot on his snap. It's a losing combination.
Why does he drop back 10 yards tho? It seems like they snap the ball and next thing you know he is 10 yards behind the LOS. Weird
Its funny because i see him making some good plays and then he goes and does some dumb shit. I'm not QB expert but why not keep it simple for him like they did with Sanchez? Keep the throws short and use Johnson more receiving. Keep it simple for him in the redzone too
I agree Abyz, and I guess he is so use to the formation of shotgun, and has had success in college, it's dang near like a security blanket to Geno. I just can't see why it frigs with Geno so bad. I believe he gets the tight ass while up close and in the pocket while passing. Geno isn't a puss like nacho, as he has took some shots while throwing or shortly after, but hell, what Qb doesn't. Geno needs to get over this problem, because teams see the trend as easy as we all do. It's almost a given, when he is under center, it's a handoff. Can anybody tell us the %? Where is Cakes, or Junc when we need them? Lol! I would like to know the numbers.
CJ has been a disappointment running the ball, but it boggles the mind that they have used Ivory in a lot of the situations they should be using CJ. It was working out for a short while, but against Chicago, Ivory went back to a drop machine. It's not that simple, because teams are letting on the dumpoff on third down with CJ, and the reason for that is the severely limited playcalling since Geno can't play under center. The backs get sniffed out fairly quickly.
Which is why they should use him receiving out of the backfield like Sproles. Pretty confusing that they use Ivory in that role instead lol, nobody is fooled when they do that shit. Pretty crazy that they have a QB who cant play under center. I mean come on. If the Jets had a decent QB, they would be at least 2-2. Maybe 3-1.
I started out hating that he couldn't play under center until I realized that about 80% of successful QBs in the league spent their first could of years pistoling and shotgunning. The main problem is that the HC wants a base of punishing runners and it's really not an option when those backs have to take handoffs right next to the QB.
The offensive line is probably above average. If you're going by the Mark Sanchez "played behind the best offensive line his entire career and still sucked rocks" standard? Then yes, Geno is behind the 8-ball. But compared to other young QBs who are drafted to bad teams (with bad offensive lines)? Geno has it pretty good.
