agreed this is truely a make or break year for Sanchez...but if Sanchez flops that doesn't mean the Jets will hand the keys to Tebow next year...what it means is its time to find another QB. and make or break doesnt mean Sanchez needs to be a pro bowler...it means he needs to make a solid progression.
The good thing about Tebow is that if Sanchez keeps getting the shit knocked out of him and does get hurt, we have someone who can play. We dodged a few bullets last year when it looked like we were getting Brunell.
i think people tend to forget the extension Sanchez signed (and is guaranteed) and assume if he plays bad this year he'll be gone or benched. Reality is we can't cut him even if he plays like Hellen Keller this year. He is going to be our starter (if healthy) at least for the next 2yrs.
Not as Plan A but if Sanchez goes down we at least have a QB who has started in the NFL in this century.
Actually, Brunelle started as late as 2003. The Bills knocked him out of an early season game when he was starting for Jax ... it started the short-lived career as a starter of another QB with a slow-release, Byron Leftwich.
I have stood next to Drew Brees at a poker tournament a couple times. I am 5'9" tall and we were eye to eye. Brees is 5' 11" MAX
QFT. If Sanchez gets more of his guaranteed money this year, then the extension makes it easier to cut/trade him down the road. The guaranteed money that's been paid can be amortized against the cap over the length of the contract IIRR. The unpaid guaranteed money comes due all in the year the player is cut/released.
They guaranteed him $21M, that means he can't be cut. Traded is still a possibility, assuming the Jets were willing to receive little in return. They would also have to be willing to eat $6M in dead cap space.
If they've cut his dead cap number to $6 million, then he got most of his guaranteed money up front. Before the extension, he was supposed to count significantly more against the cap if he was cut/traded next season.
you put those 2 guys in front of a football scout and they go with sanchez everytime. this is what i been telling everybody, mark's potential is unrivaled
