I can understand that emotions are high, but Sanchez is a concern. The article goes way too far, though, in ignoring that while Mark has been inconsistent, he's not been consistently bad, particularly in the playoffs. Yeah he looked bad in the first half against Indy, and the second half of last year's Champ game he was not effective. But Saturday night's second half, the games against Cincy and the Chargers last year, were they a mirage? No.
Jets need a complete, 4-quarter game from Mark to have a chance. No question about that. They'll need to put up a minimum of 27 points.
Boston Herald columnist and WEEI radio personality Gerry Callahan often is an embarrassment to Boston sports fans. His politics are extreme right wing and it's surprising he hasn't slandered Sanchez's Mexican heritage. It's too bad his Aiden lead-in obscured his basic points though, Sanchez's 2 games in Foxboro have been awful. Not having Leonard was a huge loss for the Jets last month so I expect a closer game but Sanchez has to play almost error free for the Jets to win IMO.
What a shit article. Way to bring a child who died of cancer into the story and basically shit on it.
does Callahan have a known drinking problem? i dont like his jerkoff name----i hope he has purlply spider veins on his nose and gets bright red in the face after his cheating team loses this weekend, i also hope he can only afford cheap beer to drink alone during the game because his ex-wife has cleaned him out------ but sanchez can go a long way to quiet this nonsense with a strong, no-mistakes game on Sunday
What's funny is Brady's first few playoff games he didn't do crap. In fact, Sanchez's first 4 playoff games match up very well against Brady's. He's in his second season, and has proven several times this year that he can play very well and win a game at the end. Look no further than last week.
I agree on all points. I hate Gerry Callahan with the power of 1,000 suns. He is a fascist, racist douchebag. But when he sticks to sports, I often find myself agreeing with him. I can't really take issue with the facts he stated and the general point he is trying to make. As evenly matched as these 2 teams are, by far the biggest mismatch is QB. If Sanchez plays as he did in the last 2 games in Foxboro, there is no way the Jets win....no way. In fairness, he did allow for the possibility that Sanchez could turn into a great QB. He just said that he isn't one now. On that point, I find it hard to disagree.
This. I can't stand Gerry Callahan and have never liked him. I'm a Patriots diehard and some of his points about Sanchez are valid, but Gerry Callahan is a vile individual. (He and his WEEI partner, John Denis, were suspended a few years back for referring to METCO kids as "guerillas." He shouldn't even have a job, IMO.)
No, they were suspended for saying "GORILLAS" which has a much different connotation to African-Americans. They've said much worse that they haven't been suspended for.
Not exactly accurate. Brady's first playoff game as a starter was the "tuck rule" game, where he threw for over 300 yards in a snowstorm. And whether he deserved it or not, his 2001 SB-MVP was his third postseason game. Plus he won his first 10 career playoff games. So, not exactly a good comparison.
Maybe I'm still naive in my later years, but I can't believe that article could appear in a major newspaper and not in some Pats fan blog. I know it pissed me off sitting here, I can imagine what the team would feel reading it. Somebody send a copy to Rex, will'ya?
Haven't you people learned yet that there are two ways of doing things in football...The Cheatriot way and the wrong way. Just ask an objective Cheatriot fan. Oh yeah...thats an oxymoron.
Statistically they absolutely match up. Yes he threw for 312 yards in that tuck rule game, but he did it on 52 passes. The following week he was just 12-18 for 115 yards. If Sanchez had that game everyone would be mocking him. All in all, his first 4 playoff games he threw just 2 touchdowns and was honestly more of a game manager type than even close to the dominating force he is now. Not trying to bash Brady at all, believe me. Just pointing out that Brady didn't set the world on fire early in his playoff career and he still managed to win games.
This is very true. The Pats did not ask Brady to do too much that year. They had a very dink-n-dunk Offense and a great Defense.
Mmmmmm didn't drew brees get benched like 4 times when he played in san diego early in his career??????????????? Mark still a kid.... The writer can go fuck himself...
Fair point, but part of what made Tom Brady was the fact that he broke Starr's record for consecutive playoff wins to start a career. (And in the second game of the 01-02 playoffs, against the Steelers, Brady left the game with an ankle injury in the second quarter or something like that. So that was sort of an "incomplete" game.) Personally I have no idea what to expect out of Sanchez, in both this weekend's game and in general. Sometimes he looks terrific, and at other times he looks lost. I wouldn't go nearly as far as Callahan did in his column, but if I was a NYJ fan I'd be significantly concerned about his play heading into the weekend. He's got to do better than that or the Jets are heading home. I'm sure I'm not saying anything you guys don't already know.
Compare Tom Brady's second year to Mark's, they are extremely close. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/stats?playerId=2330 look at year 2001 http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/stats?playerId=12482 look at year 2010 Making it idiot proof for a certain Pats fan. If this writer thinks Mark sucks I'd love to see what he wrote about Tom in 2001. Also Tom had the benefit of better coaching too, Rex is a rookie himself, especially on the offensive side.
