Good points on the restrictions on defenders that continue to pile up and make passing easier.

To make the issue more contemporary:

None of the QB's drafted from 2008 on has passed and rushed for 30+ TD's in a season yet. Matthew Stafford will certainly get there this season with his 29 TD passes through 13 games. Matt Ryan has a shot at 25 TD's combined, 1 behind Sanchez.

Comparing stats from three or even two decades ago is lame.

I'd say it holds true to most sports now. Football is clearly an offense driven league with just about all the advantages in favor of the O. Hockey has changed so much in the past decade, you'll never see most of the offensive records broken. Baseball, that's obviously a horse of a different color with PED's.

But by in large, I'd say comparing sports even a decade or two ago to today's standards is almost completely night and day.

The fact that Vinny holds the record with 31 combined rushing/passing TDs tells you what a year he had in 1998, considering he's not a running QB. One of the runs was the phantom TD to beat Seattle which inspired the return of instant replay the following season.

Please guys get off Sanchez's jockstrap while he doesn't deserve all the critism he def does not deserve all the praise. He has been for the most part a inconsistent overhyped quarterback and has not lived to a #5 pick, bohoo he beat 3 bad teams so what? When we played good teams he absolutely choked. Am I ready to give up on him no, but don't say hes great this year because thats absolutely not true. We played 3 absolutely shit teams in a row, now if he beats Philly, giants and the Dolphins 3 teams with good defenses I will jump on the Sanchez bandwagon but until then he is a overhyped average qb who we could of gottn in the late 2nd round. Fact of the matter was if he played halfway decent vs the Broncos, baltimore and Broncos(2 big games), we would of won. Instead he choked. Good at times yes but inconsistent for the most part. If he wasn't drafted up so high and overhyped I wouldn't have a problem with him. Also makes retarded plays at times that a Nfl qb should never make. Keep in mind we had a very easy schedule this year and should easily be 10-3 at this point not 8-5.

What good teams did he choke against? Are you talking about when we played the Ravens with a 3rd string rookie unsigned free agent center?

Yes if he didn't throw a pick 6 after we just picked Flacco game would of turned out very different because we had the momentum, also Broncos come to mind and Pats. Keep in mind he has been sorrounded by a great receiving core the last 2 seasons which many qb's dream off. Fact of the matter is when the offensive line isn't playing 100% and the running game isn't clicking I don't trust him.

That game was over before it started. A UDFA 3rd string center, with on one on the line knowing the line calls going against one of the best D's in the league is no place anyone wants to be and it is not definately the QBs fault.
The only reason that game was close was because of Joe Flacco and Cam Cameron.

Just cause Clemens was a bust doesn't set a example?

    Drew Brees Round: 2 / Pick: 32
    Tom Brady:Round: 6 / Pick: 199
Aaron Rodgers: 1st round 24th pick
    Tony Romo:undrafted
    Ryan Fitzpatrick:drafted 7th round
    Andy Dalton:drafted 2nd round
    Colt McCoy:drafted 3rd round
    Matt Schaub:3rd round

All qb's I rather have then Sanchez. If we can get the pick back.

What? You'd rather have Colt McCoy or Ryan Fitzpatrick? Colt McCoy seriously?

Yes Colt Mccoy and a #5 pick in the 2009 draft. My problem with Sanchez is not that he sucks its we wasted a #5 pick on a average qb. Also don't judge Mccoy he plays on a real shitty team, give him the Jets receiving core and he does just as good as Sanchez if not better. If Sanchez was doing this with Cotchery as his #1 and crap as his #2 and #3 I wouldn't say shit but look who Sanchez had to throw to the past 2 years. B. J. Raji or Crabtree would have looked good in a Jet Uniform no?

I have to give credit to Sanchez, he's stepped up the past few weeks, but it's pretty sad that he is on pace to break a record. Defintley indicates how poor we've been at the QB position as a franchise since its inception.

At least Sanchez's arm doesn't randomly die in big games.

Yup he just starts missing his targets by a mile and can't beat up on a #32 defense. But according to some people on this board he is a elite qb. Fact of the matter is if the line is playing below 85% and his wide receivers aren't getting wide open he plays rattled. I guess beating up on shit teams the past 3 years makes him the greatest qb in Jets history.

Beating Peyton Manning in Indy and Tom Brady in NE in the playoffs back to back weeks sure sounds like beating up on shit teams.

Since when did the Jets revolving door at WR become elite?

Are you sure it wasn't the Jets as a team who did that? He was terrible against ne in 2010 18-31 0 tds 1 interception 62.4 rating, once again choked. 2009 vs sd 12-23 100 yards 62.3 rating choke choke? Other games he was ok-good which once again makes him a average qb, if you think he is playing good this year your out of your mind. If you think he was the reason why we got so far the past 2 years your once again out of your mind.

    1. Our offensive line is great. Tell me one quarterback who wouldn't want Ferguson, Mangold?
    2. our wide receiver core is great, tell me one quarterback who wouldn't want Holmes, plaxico?
    3. our defense is great. tell me 2 better playmakers on a team better then Revis, Harris?
    4. Special teams once again great.

If any quarterback can't win with that he is not "average", he just doesn't belong in the league period.

Come to think of it hes always choked against Ne the team we hate most.

Quick, can you name the 5 QB's in NFL history who have a better postseason QB Rating than Sanchez?
