Plaxico Burress 16 yd pass from Mark Sanchez (Nick Folk kick) 5:33 Drive: 10 Plays, 93 Yards, 3:06 That was vs Oakland
Style points? You are missing my entire point. The outcome of the drive is 100% irrelevant. I'm taking this specific scenario and talking about it. If we can't attack the red zone with Plax when he is 1-1 with no safety help, then WHEN can we attack anything with Plax? If THAT situation is not where we go to Plax, then WHEN I ask do we throw to him? Plax is 6'5, not 6'6 as i mistakenly mentioned, vs a 6'3 corner. Once again, who should have the advantage? All I keep hearing from Rex is that Plax is double covered most of the game, very hard to get him the ball. Well there it is, a GOLDEN opportunity to get him the ball and utilize his skills to the max, and we pass it up to run vs 8 in the box. Because that sequence just happened to work out for a TD is completely irrelevant, for every time that works for a TD there are going to be 5 times where we kick a FG.
TGG has been plagued by Rex Ryan's measurements. Every player that is known for being tall, he adds an inch to their height when discussing them. Every player that is known for being short, he subtracts an inch.
Saying "Sanchez sucks at throwing the fade" might have been a little much, but I know it's been documented before that it is not one of his more comfortable throws......of course there are going to be highlights of him executing every throw there is, but he is not known for his touch/timing passes at this point in his career.
Results aside its not too bad either way. First and ten from the 11 you can knock off a decent chunk of yardage by running. Didn't work out but fades are a toss up, its a low percentage pass with big payoff
Since we're playing make believe, what if the DB makes a great play, get an INT then you stupid thread would have been about that. We scored. Sorry. Deal with it.
This play is called maximizing talent on the field. It what Plax does well, he's very limited as a tall WR. He's a possession WR. That's all. But this play should have been called two plays earlier in the game, and it would have saved a full minute on the clock. They were still running the ball and burning time. Sanchez's throws that kind of fade towards the sideline very well. He did it with Braylon enough to know how to do it. With the OL returning to where it was, they need to do it more.
Burress has been targeted twice in the red zone this year, Sanchez is 1/2 16y 1TD 0INT on the plays. The first was the incompletion from a few yards out against Jacksonville, the second was the above play in the Raiders game.
None of that was the point... The point is.. You claim Plax is double teamed and you can't get him the ball... So, in the few instances where there are 8-9 men in or near the box and Plax is out there in single coverage, you should be taking that shot..... it has nothing to do with the plays after that - The point is THAT play was a failure - running into a brick wall failure. CASE CLOSED! Tom Brady sees 1 on 1 and jumps out of his shoes at the prospect.
about the height thing ... plax is closer to 6'6 than he is 6'5, and if were going to be sticklers for height sean smith is 6'2 but i agree with the op about taking a shot there ... we put ourselves in too many obvious passing situations which is part of the reason our drives stall sean smith has the worst hands of any corner this side of carlos rogers, he was not going to pick anything off ... it would have been a low risk, high reward opportunity and our offense is not in those situations nearly enough but i think as the staff and sanchez start to trust the line more, we'll begin to see the offense try to exploit these type of opportunities more often
And what happens if Burress drops the ball? Or if the pass is deflected? We went elsewhere and we scored, that's the only thing that matters. As far as I'm concerned, Sanchez made a great decision. I guess we're so bored of watching the team constantly go 3 and out, now we're starting to question scoring drives.
You are extremely confused. I never said that Plax was double teamed. I was merely implying to say it's fucking retarded to start a stupid thread about how we 'might' have scored on first down in make believe land, instead ACTUALLY scoring scoring on 3rd down in the real world. And if you actually are fucking retarded, I will take this opportunity to apologize in advance for my language.
I've been saying that to myself, too. I mean, it's that obvious, and I think teams are thinking this, too. They must love it. If he isn't allowed to audible because they don't trust him throwing it in the redone, then why is he on the field?
