Well...Collinsworth blew the call, but it's understandable. When seeing the play in real time, at real speed, what other explanation could there be? There's no way an NFL quarterback would do something like that...
Yes,, tell me where Brandon Moore ends up? Wilfork tosses him to the ground, into Sanchez, like Moore is a fucking Rag Doll, and yes...Junc is correct, greene fucks the play up, Sanchez has the ball out like hes expecting To hand it off, as the fullback plunges into the gap, and Greene flashes out like its a screen, and looks for the catch. Problem with that, is...sparano called about 40 all season, and with 8 in the box, the FB would have lead outside to hit the one defender. (top of the screen) Sanchez, taking the blame means jack shit....because thats whathe always does. Freeze that clip at 3 seconds. Mangold, and the FB and LG are pushing the defenders about 5 yards downfield. That was a designed run to Wilforks rt, Mangolds left. Had greene actually taken the hand off,,,given the number of players at the LOS, and the blocks, hes sprinting for the end zone. Then freeze it at 4 seconds. You have 3 jets blocking two guys seven yards down field. With greene going out for a Screen Pass? Trickeration? PS...if Sanchez fucked it up and Greene didnt, why are Mangold, and the LG pushing defenders straight down the field? They would be pass blocking sucking defenders IN...not sending them in the same direction as the guy catching the screen pass. (however, the fumble is all Sanchez not tucking the ball away when he HAD to run it.) But Greene clearly blew the play.
Seriously? You've jumped on the Hobbes crazy train and think that Sanchez is covering for his teammate on the buttfumble? You don't think Rex knew who the ball was supposed to go to? Why would Rex come out and say the ball was supposed to go to the fullback and Mark turned out the wrong way? Watch the play and you can see exactly that. You guys and your defense of Sanchez reminds me of an overprotective mother watching her kid play sports.
Hobbes I can't take this shit anymore. Seriously? A long, almost incoherent, rambling, excuse-filled post about how it's not Sanchez's fault with a quick little blurb at the end about how he didn't protect the football... are you for real? If Sanchez got a D.U.I. would your post look like this? -It was 2 A.M. what do you expect? -The Bartender kept pouring him drinks -His friends wouldn't let him leave -Answer me something -what exactly were the police doing following his car? -the lines on the road were off -he had bald tires! (however, he shouldn't have gotten behind the wheel) -but the bartender clearly shouldn't have served him
This is the same Rex who didn't know Holmes was off the field in Miami, he doesn't pay as much attention to the offense on game days, that's known. It's not that Mark is covering for anyone that's just his style. He would never and has never thrown anyone under the bus so to speak, and neither has Ryan. Mark claimed responsibility cause ultimately its his fault for not holding onto the ball but it was so obviously a blown play on many levels. I don't see how anyone could place all the blame for such a terrible sequence of events on one person. Furthermore all of last year all we heard from the coaching staff was what a good grip on the system Sanchez had. Find it really hard to believe that he just "forgot" the call 10 seconds after making it in the huddle. In reality though no one knows what happened on that play besides Sanchez, the backs, and tony fist pump. It's all just speculation from fans and media alike. Sanchez took the blame because like I said he takes the brunt of criticism and is not the type to throw his team mates under the bus.
Rex doesn't talk to the OC? If Rex really had no clue, he wouldn't have come out and said Mark reversed out the wrong way and that it was a mental mistake. That would be throwing Sanchez under the bus if it were not true which you say Rex never does. Sparano also just keeps his mouth shut this whole time and lets Mark take all the blame? Greene? Hilliard? What kind of coaches and players would do that on a play of this magnitude if it wasn't really his fault? Mark admitting himself that he was thinking of a different play and that the ball was supposed to go to the FB all makes sense if you watch the play. The FB is ready to take the hand off but Mark turned out the wrong way after the snap. It is as simple as that. The quote you responded to was talking about the buttfumble and how Sanchez forgot the play to which you then responded by saying "Was he covering for a teammate?" What did I miss?
It looks like Sanchez was supposed to pitch the ball back to Greene...at least in Greene's mind. He raises his arms up after Sanchez turns with the ball then flares right and taps his thigh as if to say "give me the ball"...Sanchez explanation doesn't really say much beside what we see with our eyes. "It's embarrassing, you screw up the play and I'm trying to do the right thing. It's not like I'm trying to force something. I start to slide and I slide in the worst spot I possibly could -- right into (right guard) Brandon Moore. I guess (I was) more stunned than anything. It was just like a car accident. I was like, 'Whoa, what just happened? The ball is gone.' It was weird, man. That sucked." “I’m just trying to do the right thing and I run right into Brandon Moore,” Sanchez began. “Sometimes that just happens. There’s no excuse for it. Try not to let it happen again.” But your description of the play is far from accurate. Nobody is "seven yards down field" as you say. The ball was snapped at the 31 yrd. line...the furthest Jet (74?) is falling down at the 35 yrd. line. Meanwhile, Sanchez did the only thing he's been good at lately, turn a bad situation into a disaster.
he was bashing him for saying he didn't know the play, I simply stated a fact that we don't know what happened b/c he always takes the blame whether his fault or not.
It's not as if Sanchez gave a cover all "I'll take the responsibility" line. He specifically said HE forgot the play. It's not media speculation from an unidentified source & it wasn't stated off the record. It was a direct specific quote. Additionally, when you watch the play it makes perfect sense given that he turned the wrong way, panicked & ran into the line. Acting precisely in line with what a QB would do had he not known the play. You may find it incomprehensible. But that's exactly what makes it inexcuseable.
Pause rhat clip, at four seconds, and tell me..l.where are the Center,FB, and LG? Blocking defenders to a better angle on the guy that was supposed to catch the screen Sanchez forgot to throw! They are pushing straight ahead 7 yards down field. Tell me they Arent.
Can you possibly provide a link to the interview? I can't find the quote where he says "I forgot the play" basically everything I'm finding is his reaction AFTER the play breaks down. "It's embarrassing," Sanchez said. "You screw up the play, and I'm trying to do the right thing. I start to slide, and I slide right in the worst spot I possibly could: right into Brandon Moore."" Not saying you're wrong, but i remember it being closer to the blanket "I'll take responsibility" then "I forgot what play I called". http://www.businessinsider.com/mark-sanchez-explains-butt-fumble-2012-11
Like I said. Forget Sanchez. Lookt at the LG,C,FB at 4 seconds in. What exactly are they doing? And why did Greene run a Screen route, to freeze the corner? Cmon man. Thats why this thread is so over the top. The blocking on the play, tells you what the play was, a straight up run. Two points. They aint running Sanchez the fumble machine there. And Sparano was not calling screen passes, all season long. Now..if you want to say Sanchez was supposed to hand off to the upback, then he must have forgotten the play too, because he launched right into straight up run blocking. You have 3 blockers pushing up field. (about 7 yards, infact they have a 3 on 2...clearly by design),A surprised QB, and a RB, going out for a screen with no blocking when they dont run that play... At least try to be somewhat honest guys. p.p.s.... At 4 seconds in....while the LG,C,FB are pushing two guys down the field, if Greene got it right. And its a screen pass...why is the WR still at the LOS, (at that point hes heading toward the pile, but he didnt run a go route to drag the corner downfield...thats clear)
It doesnt matter. Watch the clip, hit pause at 4 seconds, and note the FB,LG,and C. Whatare they doing, and where are they?
Truthfully, I haven't been able to find a link to the full PC. It was stated at the tail end of the post game press conference which was shown on SNY. The media doesn't always use all the quotes in their publications after the fact, which seems to be the case here. If you or anyone else is able to stumble upon it..I've been looking to re-watch it for quite sometime now. The "Happy Thanksgiving"(which I've referenced earlier in this thread & in the past) remark still resonates with me & is worth a second look. For argument purposes I'm fine with the quote being taken w/ a speculative notation given that it hasn't been found. But I assure you that I would never farbricate something as crucial as a QB indicating that he forgot a play call during a moment like that.
