I agree, I am not sure he ever recovers here but I am hopeful. A big part of his regression came from lack of healthy talent. We didn't upgrade much but if healthy we should have much more talent than a year ago. He deserves the right to have the opportunity to earn his job back, if he gets beaten out or if he sucks again we move on.
You consider 32 scores in 2011 awful? The Jets haven't had a QB score that much ever! Are you smoking crack? Some of you guys need to look in the mirror and think about what you are saying here. Some of you guys sound awful
His first year wasn't even good by rookie standards, just take a look at last years rookies. And to say he was top 10(ish) in 2010 is ridiculous. He had a 54% completion rating and had 20 TD's and 18 turnovers during the regular season. He was good in the playoffs, but a top 10 QB? No way.
Uh I said he was awful last year (which he was) and bad the year before. Ok I'll be considerate and say he was average in 2011 if that makes you feel better. 32 scores, 26 turnovers, a 56% completion rating, and a 33.6 QBR. Not to mention he stunk it up in the final three games.
You implied he was a bad QB. 32 scores throwing to old Plaxico and a malcontent Holmes that couldn't get open because we had no downfield threat, in a interception happy offense. The team itself collapse, wasn't just Sanchez in 2011. Why are Jet fans so naive to blame one player for the past 2 years and it's short-comings? Before the last 3 games, Sanchez was playing pretty well, making plenty of plays. Oh btw QBR one of the worst stat indicators I've ever seen. Here I am now defending Sanchez, unbelievable.
this is where you lose everyone with your argument. mark has never been top 10 ish. from his rookie year he has been an inconsistent qb that turns the ball over too much. 2010,which you call his best year was average at best. you would gain alot of support if you would stop calling 2010 top 10
He absolutely was, somewhere in the 8-12 range. Name 12 better QBs in 2010? What you will do is post 12 better stat guys but better stats doesn't mean better player, look beyond just the raw #s and see what each actually did. I don't care if a QB throws 15 garbage time TDs. It's about winning and making plays to win, not many were better than him in 2010. I don'[t care if I get any support, I realize most won't agree w/ me b/c he didn't have great fantasy #s which most fans use to evaluate. I don't.
I'm sure if Jaws said that MS was the next coming of Brady or Manning or some other elite QB U would be singing Jaws praises to the highest heaven
I'm well aware that Sanch was not the sole reason for the terrible 3-game stretch to end the season. But he certainly did more harm than good, and in a time when we were still in the playoff hunt and needed our starting QB to come up big in the clutch, he fell flat. (6 TD's, 9 turnovers through those 3 games) And he did play well in 2011 when the Jets played against weaker opponents. Every week that we played a REAL defense Sancho folded like origami.
My view on Mark is simple, I had high expectations for the 5th draft pick and have been disappointed for the most part. If Mark would take a pay cut equal to his performance than weapons can be brought in around him. People complaining that the offense has been neglected are wrong, Mark had LT and TJ, Holmes, Keller, Plax and Bray. Mark had a great O line in the beginning that declined in talent after his second season. This year we drafted more O lineman and restocked what could be a pretty good backfield add to that Winslow and Cumberland. The one wideout people fail to mention is the guy we signed from Seattle, Ben Obamanew or however you spell it. He is far more talented than last years number 4 receiver and if Holmes, Kerley, and Hill either stay healthy or progress than there a no more excuses. I am sick of the Tebow, Sparano, and Shitty excuses. Mark's had plenty of time to improve on his craft, and this point I would rather see what Geno has to offer. All this team needs is top 15-20 QB numbers this year to be competitive.
Oh and I did see the Jaws commentary on ESPN and what he said was spot on. All I have heard is Simms says this, Gruden says that, Boomer says this. What if a commentator says something negative but the truth about Mark he is wrong? People around here are quick to point out the stuff said positive but not the negative.
Come on man you're better than that. Andy Luck took the worst team in the league a year ago to an 11-win season. RGIII took a 4-win Redskins team and turned them into Division Champions. And don't even get me started on Russ... to think he was available in the 3rd round.
all had excellent seasons, all were surrounded w/ excellent talent too w/ the possible exception of RGIII but he played in a weak division and the 3 combined for 1 playoff win(b/c 2 of them played head to head).
Ehh they had some talent surrounding them, but to say 'excellent talent' is a stretch. Mark had just as much, if not more talent surrounding him when he got to NY.
No he didn't, people forget his first month when he played really well and the team was 3-1 he had Chansi Stuckey as a starting WR. Chansi Stuckey certainly wouldn't have been starting on Indy, Sea or Wash last year even w/ some injuries. We got Braylon for Game 5 but they didn't have camp or offseason together.
lol. very good junc. cut off the stat argument right away and now find 12 qb's that had better records than 11-5? because its all about records, right? i guess that makes dilfer better than marino and kelly and right up there with young since he has the same super bowl wins. fact of the matter is, sanchez made some clutch plays in 2010 and it was a good season for the team. however i will never call a 54% comp% and 18 ints a top 10 season. not in this age of the nfl.
It's not just about record it's about making plays to get to that record. You can have your stats, I'll take a guy making plays to Win over the stat guy any day. You know Rivers had the #1 ranked D in 2010, right? and he played in a weak division yet couldn't make the playoffs but he was great b/c he put up great fantasy #s. Fantasy football(while I love it) has ruined football, people just don't know what they are watching.
