I'm not saying they carried him. But him and the defense worked hand in hand. The Jets defense has struggled to contain teams to less than 15 points. 5 out of Tebow and the Broncoss 7 regular season wins were the other team scoring 15 or less. The Jets have done that 1 out of their 8 games this season. That's some disparity. The Jets defense can't do that right now and Tebow isn't going to lessen our 3 and outs if everyone wants to use last year. That gets the defense on there quickly too. He might lessen turnovers, but the offense still gets the ball. Our punter actually looks like a bright spot though. Has a leg but has trouble pinning people in side the 10 when he doesn't need to use his leg. The thing is, I don't want Tebow to start mostly because of what I said in my last post that you didn't address. I think it changes the way the Jets direction goes and I think it changes it for the worse. I think we can hold off the complete rehaul but that means scapegoating Sanchez. You can't scapegoat a guy on the bench. None of that has to do with Tebow's actual play but more with my idea of how the organization will respond and the lack of consistent talent on this team. To add on, the organization can say they disagreed with Tanny extending Sanchez and move Tanny out the door. They can say Rex hasn't been given much option and there was nowhere to move Sanchez. So it lets them play Sanchez, keep expectations low while doing a rebuild while keeping some people in place. Then as in my previous post, you throw Sanchez under the bus even more, get that new QB ready and go from thre with Rex. A lot of Tebow fans act like there is nothing else besides the QB position. There is a lot around it, including off the field. Just because I think he will do bad here, doesn't mean I think he sucks. I just don't think he's that rare supreme talent that can build up everyone around like maby 5 QBs in the league currently
I understand that. I just wanted to point out that Tebow helps your defense. He never turns the ball over, and he runs the ball down the field eating up clock on long drives. This means opposing teams have less chances to score the ball and your defense is fresh and ready when they get on the field.
Agreed. Sanchez & McElroy could both be done for the season & I've still believe Tebow gets maximum of 4-5 plays @ QB. WTF was the point of acquiring of him if he can't be allowed to play QB? The Tebow situation shows us that there's a huge disconnect between the coaching staff & the acquisition of talent for this roster. Something really needs to change ... either the coaching or the people involved in acquiring talent.
Good point. Sanchez gets a hell of a lot of credit for bringing the Jets to the AFCCG two years in a row but the same crowd doesn't seem so willing to give Tebow any credit for winning regular season games.
Didn't that Denver offense lead the league in 3 and outs? Or was top 5 in them under Tebow? That long drive thing didn't happen very often. Even with the defense rested coming out of the 2nd half the last two weeks, the defense let up TDs on both drives. Both times the Jets got the ball to start the 2nd half and both times went down the field for 3. Both times the defense came back and let up 7. It's more than rest and turnovers
Because, what is more replicable? Holding games to one possession and getting a late drive for your QB to win the game consistently, or having a good run game, a good defense, and good QB that can capitalize on opportunities. You have teams being build around the second one like the Texans, 49ers, Ravens, Steelers, etc. At the end of the day both should credit for playing well, but neither should get all the credit. Just like neither QB should get blame for all the loss. The argument goes both ways. When we win, Sanchez did nothing. When we lose, it was all because of Sanchez. This seems alright to everyone on here even thought it doesn't make sense
I'm on your side of this argument. I'm engaging with the Sanchez loyalists. Even if you grant that Tebow is a fullback masquerading as a QB, I'd STILL rather roll the dice with a non-traditional alternative with the mildest history of success rather than watch Sanchez flail around and suck for another wasted 3 hours of my life.
He can turn this team around like he did to Denver? C'mon man. If the defense allows 14 PPG and Folk can start kicking 57 yard FGs - maybe. I don't see either of them happening.
He doesn't need to turn anything around. He just needs to not suck as egregiously as Sanchez. At this point, I'd kill to run clock and punt. Stop turning the ball over, play to keep it close in the fourth, and hope for some luck. That's as good a plan to win as we've got. We sure as shit aren't going to out gun teams with non-Mark Sanchez quarterbacks.
Once again. Tebow runs the ball well and does NOT turn the ball over. You understand what this means right? Your offense stays on the field on long, clock eating drives. Opposing teams do not get a chance to score. Your defense stays fresh. Tebow HELPS defenses. You never realized that an offense can control if a game is high scoring or low scoring?
If I see Sanchez smile one more time after a loss, I'm going to hope someone takes him out for good!!
my take on it is this, Sanchez isn't nearly as big of the problem that some people make him out to be, especially when you consider what he's working with. HOWEVER, he's nowhere near the solution either when you consider he was a top 5 draft pick. elite qb's can turn no name receivers into house hold names. Sanchez is far from that level. moving forward, barring a complete turnaround over the final 8 games, its best for both the jets and mark sanchez to part ways. sanchez is salvagable with the right coaching and situation, at this point its doubtful it will be as a jet. with this years draft class, i really don't see no rg3, andrew luck type talent but it's some solid prospects. however if/when the jets draft a rookie qb in the draft, if they don't make changes starting with how the organization is ran and do what's necessary to put the next guy in a position to succeed and develop it's going to be more of the same ol same ol with the new guy. my question is this though, is the majority of the fanbase willing to accept a legit rebuilding process and be patient enough to ride it out if the team went that way. this is a signifcantly worse team then the 09 and 10 teams and that 2010 team went as far as this group could go in my opinion. cleaning house with the exception of core guys such as mangold, revis etc would be the best move long term. this is the nfl where you can be 3-13 one season and in the playoffs the next with good drafting and smart decision making. i'll continue my vent but i wish woody would chill with his damn ego and stop worrying about competing with the giants, trying to make headlines regardless if their negative, trying to sell stupid psl's (winning sells tickets not headlines) and just worry about the new york jets. cut the poor character guys on the team and rebuild with a direction and plan and stick with it. i could live with a team in rebuilding mode taking their lumps and going 6-10 if they show improvement and development as the season progresses and you know their going to get better and have a great future as opposed to this current team who's accomplished all their capable of accomplishing and their ceiling at best is 8-8 9-7 and a first round exit and that's at best.
I don't want a legit rebuilding process because I think it means Rex goes. I think Rex can be a solid coach here. I was thinking more of partial rebuild but keep Rex. So keep Sanchez and ride him out this year. Get Tanny out, or keep Tanny as an accountant/numbers guy and overhaul the talent department completely. From here draft a QB early, and make some smart picks. Don't trade picks away. Start Sanchez next year as a lame duck. Either he sucks real bad and the new QB takes over at 1-7/0-8 or we do decent enough and let Sanchez walk. We go through another draft assessing our weaknesses and strengths of our new QB. We then give the new QB the reins with some new pieces, some solid old pieces, and a year of watching and hopefully learning. I think it keeps Rex as a coach and gives him another QB/chance. It lessens the chance of certain players becoming out of place or useless due to switching of coaches and schemes
Let's be realistic here. Pennington in his worst game was probably Ravens vs Dolphins in the playoff. Sanchez in his best game was probably in NE in 2010. Sanchez was leaps and bounds better in his best game than Pennington's worse. What you are trying to say is that Pennington was much more consistent and his lows were less frequent and not as low as Sanchez's lows. You tried to be clever or funny, or maybe you acutally believe what you wrote because you don't understand football or haven't seen Chad's worse or Mark's best.
