I'm not a SuperFan so please also understand why I can't ignore what I saw the team do with my own eyes which is backed up with the stats of each game. The average fan finds it difficult to exaggerate the role and success of a QB who was clearly carried on a run and D first team like you do so well. So, please understand that we are not a SuperFan like you are. When you can show me anything other than Sanchez saying he felt great and much better than he did in 2010 when he played MUCH better, then I would be glad to consider reasons for Mark's poor play. You are also going to have to explain to me why a healthy Sanchez played just as poor in spots throughout his entire career.
you are an average fan that doesn't understand the game, we all know this. No need to announce it all time.
I'll agree with you there. No doubt Mark proved himself in 09 and 10 with his playoff performances but here are a few important questions IMO. If he can't get us to January what's the point? Mark proved to be a clutch qb in 09 and 10 with his playoff perfomances while not spectacular, got the job done as you say while many other qb's (Matt Ryan, early Peyton Manning) would fold in big games. BUT, what about last year? I think he proved that the Tebowmania affected him and he was noticeably unclutch last year with the Texans and Titans game as evidence. I fear the best part of his game and what made him stay on as the starter despite overall mediocre has left him. There is no excuse for the bonehead turnovers especially with the game/season on the line. And those turnovers had nothing to do with a lack of talent. They were a direct result of Mark's play.
he can get us to January, he needs help though. he's not Tom Brady who could win w/ you and I as his starting WRs. he needs talent to work w/ like most QBs do. He'll get a chance somewhere else at some point, I wish him well.
It isn't just me. I think everyone except you and Hobbes are average fans like I am. Maybe one day we will be able to get to the point of SuperFandom where we can make up stuff and believe it even when everything points to us being wrong. But we are just not there yet.
Yes, and Fave went 18 for 31, with two picks and four sacks. In bad weather, against an undersozed defense, barely edging Seattle in TOP.
The only thing I "hate", is poor QB play and watching the Jets lose. If Sanchez falls under those categories, then yeah... call me a "hater". The Jets passed on Geno Smith, for 2 of their top 4 players. They said they would go BPA, and they did. The were multiple reports (including from Geno himself), that the Jets were deciding between Richardson and Geno. They choose Richardson because he was a top 4 player on their board. In the 2nd, we potentially got the steal of the draft. They were reports today that the Jets were behind Geno, and that Sanchez's days could very well be numbered. Just the pure fact that the Jets drafted him tell you that they are moving in a different direction from Sanchez. Idzik has no ties to Sanchez... its the past GM's mistake, its not his and he has no obligation to right that ship. If Sanchez straight up wins the job and plays like a much different (better) QB than the past years, then sure, Ill back him. But right now, he has given me no reason to believe otherwise. And btw, Vegas could very well have given the Jets at 7 wins because they believe another QB could win the job (because thats very well possible). In fact, I would say its much more likely that they predicted 7 wins because they dont think Sanchez will start...
You're actually giving much more credit to Fitzpatrick now than you did during the time of argument in which you pretty much entirely gave credit to the defense. How many games has Sanchez won in which his defense gave up 31 or more points? As I said, I'm not going to look for every example in which you devalued the play of the QB. I'm pretty sure you did it this past playoffs with Flacco in the Denver game because Jones had a nice game. It really doesn't matter what example I bring forward because you'll simply debunk it for not being the exact same situation. As for the Steeler game, I disagree that Sanchez was under a lot of physical pressure. The line actually protected him pretty well that game, especially given the opponent. It's not even as though I'm saying he played poorly in that game, it just wasn't a world beating performance you should point to as to why he should be held onto two years later.
Yes, after twomdays in shorts, no vets, no defense....im sure the organization is giddy. You are basically regurgitating recycled Manish Mehta reports. And...hes fiven you no reason to beleive otherwise, if you discount the environment the organization built for him. Zach put it best s couple of pages back. You know the old addage abut QBs. Too much credit, too much blame.
I havent read one of Mehta's articles or reports in months... Schefter just reported that the Jets would love for Geno to grasp the starting job, and then look to trade Sanchez. Obviously it has to be taken with a grain of salt, but Schefter is usually a well informed reporter who doesnt spew out bullshit. Just the fact that there seems to be a common thought going around that the Jets want Geno to win the job says a lot... And in reference Zachs post... I understand it, but it comes to a point where you are just making excuses for the guy. I said this before, but the organization was strapped with the cap (yes by mishandling and poor contracts), but they tried to rely on their franchise QB to make up for the decrease in talent. In 2011, the offense essentially lost Braylon who barely played in 2011 and had to replace a RT who retired. In 2012, the offense was poorly handled and coached and it had a lot of injuries. I get it. The Jets did fuck up Sanchez. But at the same time, Sanchez fucked up the Jets. If Sanchez improved each year, the Jets would be in a better situation. Tanny might even have his job. That atrocious contract given to Sanchez? That would look genius compared to the contracts being given out to QBs now. As much as you want to bash the organization for screwing Sanchez up, a good amount of blame must be put on him for not stepping up when called upon- and Im sure if he was asked, even he would admit to this. The fact that the Jets screwed up Sanchez doesnt discount the fact that he is indeed screwed up. I hate to be the bearer of bad news... I have no personal hate against him. I think he's a good guy. I wish he worked out, truly, I do. Sadly it doesnt appear that way...
Like I said before Sanchez needs to get on a team with a veteran QB, so that way he can watch and learn for a few years. Then maybe he'll be in a position to be a starting QB for another team.
Lol Playing behind someone like say Big Ben can help him. That's who I thought Sanchez reminded me of early in his career. A poor mans version of course.
I think that is perception, I am guessing those arguments were skewed to make it like Fitz was great and he carried Buffalo. he was playing really well early in 2011 but the D was scoring almost every week too. how many times has a Jets D forced 4 TOs and scored a TD in games they allowed 31 or more pts in? not all 30+ pt games allowed are equal. Show me where I said Flacco didn't have a great postseason? I don't recall taking any credit from him except for noting the fact that he has elite weapons. Jacoby Jones was about a 5th option for Baltimore last year, he would have been our #1 option. Watch the game and watch how many times he escapes pressure to make a play but the Ol play was definitely good that game. He was outstanding that day. You look at the boxscore and it says only 17 pts allowed by the D and only 13 scored by the O and most people would say the D played great and the QB wasn't very good- WATCH THE GAME and you will see the real answer.
Junc, as an aside...dont you find the irony hilarious of a guy with a monniker pf 'Testaverde' trying to kill Sanchez on interceptions....? And refusing to understand the 'right coach, right player' thing?
Riggghhht..a 6'5" monolith that cant be brought down, sanchez is nothing like Rapelisberger. There is really no one to compare him to at this point in time, testaverde maybe...gifted, but throws too many INTs. On a longer horizon, I think hes alot like OBrien, without the other worldy arm.
Sanchez will never ever be an elite QB. His ceiling is just below average so whats the point in starting him? Garrard, Geno and Mclroy will make this team with Sanchez the odd man out.
See. Thats the point. You write something like 'if he improved every year' without bothering to look. He did. His completion pct went up each year under Schotty, and in 2011 he scored 32 times, team went 8-8, when the elite Defense that allegedly was the reason for his early success, blew an end of game lead in Denver, allowed NE 500 yards of offense, shit the bed in the Giants game where brainiac had him throw the ball 50 times, and gave up a 12 minute,6 third down conversion drive to matt moore. Theres your playoff season, fucked. QB finally steps up leading the offense to second overall in red zone efficiency, the defense cant close out opponents, and ots the QBs fault. 2 or 3 of those games, where the defense performs lime the elite defense we pretend it is...we arent even having this conversation. In fact in 2011 he was in the top 10 in passing TDs...id say he improved.and not coincedentally, in the one area of the offense where they actually had a real coach, in Tom Moore. So, basedon the available examples, Sanchez can perform, withdecent coaching.
