Good response. Best I have seen on here. Not trashing him, just pointing out what has happened to get to this point.

The problem is, there was never any point in time when Sanchez performed like one of the better QBs in the league ... Or anything other than one of the worst QBs in the league. It made very little difference who was around him. He either sucked ... Or he spiked to mediocrity.

There are generally accepted methods to evaluate performance in any business. Even when he had what everyone considers very good talent around him, he was STILL rated among the worst QBs in football by EVERY accepted standard which QB play is measured. The record is clear.

The guy is a substandard QB by every accepted NFL measurement and he always has been.
It's a statistical fact. If you think that he's going to magically transform into a quality QB, you're living in fantasy land.

After we release him, why don't you check back into this thread and we can talk about how many teams are bidding for his services. Good QBs are a valuable commodity .... So there should be plenty of teams going after him, right? Let's just see.

Fine...but then how do you explain the same guy coming up with a 4-2 record in the playoffs all on the road, with a 90-plus QB Rating ???

If the guy put up QB ratings of 90-plus in the regular season and 70 in the playoffs, we'd say he was a choke artist.

What does it say that he is 25% better in the playoffs than the regular season ?

Same reason why Trent Dilfer won a Super Bowl, shit happens. It doesn't mean that Dilfer or in this case Sanchez is a good QB.

I see a guy that in 2009-2010 was told to learn on the fly under incredible pressure and to not lose games while having no safety net behind him.

Was he electric and amazing - no -- did he have amazing and exciting moments..yes.

Sanchez to Edwards against the colts in the playoffs?
Sanchez to Holmes against the Pats in the playoffs?
    Amazing comeback against the Texans?

The guy has demonstrated an ability to come up big in big moments -- that is not easy to do. He did show improvement in compl%, TD, yards, TPC, and red zone in 2011 with a turnstyle at right tackle and a running game that wasn't as effective.

In 2012 the running game was led by Greene and his 3.9 ypc average, injured TE, injured WRs, no pass catching option out of the backfield, a failed Tebow experiment, and Sparano acting as an offensive coordinator and having no business doing so.

Let the guy compete...he works hard and lets see if he can step up before we make Geno Smith the second coming. I still feel he is a product of a screen happy offense in WV that inflated his numbers.

Dilfer stunk in the regular season and stunk in the playoffs. He played with one of the Top 10 defenses of ALL TIME in 2001.

The Jets defense was OK/Good in 2009-10, and mediocre with the game on the line.

6 games in 2 years is not a small sample size.

What ive seen from watching Sanchez on film is just awful peripheral and anticipation. So many picks underneath to ILB or DBs (Ninkovich, Sean Lee, RANDY STARKSx2, @Bal, @Den, AZ, @Ten). These are horrible DECISIONS that have nothing to do with what weapons he has. He is very poor at simulating the play in his mind and anticipating where everyone will be even with a solid pocket.

It says that Sanchez sucks in the regular season and put a string of a few good games together in the playoffs. Thats about it, really. If you suck as a QB in the regular season, your team isnt making the playoffs unless you have an elite defense and run game. Its pretty apparent when you look at Sanchez and the Jets. In 2009 and 2010, we had a top 3 defense and a top 5 run game. Sanchez basically had to just be game manager, and not fuck anything up.

In 2011 and 2012, the franchise expected Mark to step up, and reach the level of play where he can make other people around him better. This was caused due to cap restrictions, which ultimately screwed us over. As much as we want to blame Tanny and the organization for screwing up Sanchez (which 85% of the blame does fall on them), Sanchez was asked to step up due to the restrictions, and he didnt answer the calling.

You can even look at the playoff performances, and its not like he was truly great the entire time. In Cincy he only was asked to throw the ball 15 times and had 1 TD with 180 yards. In SD, he threw the ball 23 times for 100 yards and 1 TD to 1 Int. In Indianapolis, he needed to do more because the defense had trouble with Peyton and the run game struggled- 57% for 255 yards and 2 Tds, 1 Ints. Thats 2009, and its truly nothing special. He had a solid game against the Colts, but nothing spectacular. In 2010, he didnt play too well in Indi, with 58% (31 attempts) and only 190 yards and 1 Int. Not a great showing. Then he went to NE where he probably had the best game of his career, along with arguably the rest of the team. 194 yards, 64% and 3 Tds. He put up pretty good stats in Pit, but had a costly turnover to end the first half which was huge. He led a promising come back that ended in a loss.

Looking at it in total, Id say he had one very good game in NE, and two solid games in Indi and Pit. The rest werent spectacular. The only "good" defense he faced really, was Pittsburgh. Honestly, at the time he showed promise and like he was headed in the right direction. He seemed to be at least an effective game manager with some fire in him. Within the last 2 years he's lost all of that and its clear to why we are moving in a different direction.

Idzik has no ties to Mark Sanchez. He has no obligations to him. Those playoff wins mean nothing to him since he wasnt part of the franchise then. He's looking at what Mark has done in the last 2 years and the general course of his career, and its not very impressive.

How about the 4 years where he consistently ranked amongst the bottom of the league? Thats not a small sample size.

The play in the playoffs in 2009 was from a very narrow base. The Jets didn't let him throw the ball much and they set him up to either fail narrowly or look really good if he could hit a few throws. The fail narrowly scenario probably has the Jets losing those games because they were on the razor's edge due to lack of scoring despite a great defensive performance. Instead Sanchez hit a few throws.

When Peyton Manning was the opponent everything broke down because the defense could not contain him forever in the dome and Sanchez had nothing to offer once the pressure was squarely on him.

In 2010 we billed it as Mark Sanchez beat Peyton Manning and Tom Brady on the road. All hail the conquering QB!

In fact in Indy Sanchez went 18-31 with an Int on the day. He completed 3 passes on the last drive to setup the FG after Cromartie's 47 yard KO return and the legend continued. Despite having a subpar game overall Sanchez was seen as a major reason the Jets won that game. The actual major reasons the Jets won the game were 169 yards rushing, keeping the ball out of Peyton Manning's hands to the tune of a 33-27 possession edge, and the defense holding Peyton Manning to 225 yards passing and 1 TD.

Against the Pats Sanchez actually had his best playoff game as a Jet and it was still just 194 yards and 50 of those coming on a great run after the catch by Cotchery. The Jets won the game because Shaun Ellis knocked Brady for a loop early on and David Harris intercepted a key early pass and changed the momentum in the game. The defense kept Brady mostly in check with 5 sacks and 2 picks. The Jets rushed for 120 yards on 29 carries and managed to avoid getting behind early.

Against the Steelers the Jets got way behind early and that's all she wrote. The defense wasn't up to the job of containing the Steelers and Sanchez couldn't keep up. In fact he contributed to the problems with a late turnover in the 1st half that lead to a score.

That's the legend. 4 wins where Sanchez had a ton of help and in none of them was the most important factor in the win. The 2 losses were shared losses but they both had a key component of the offense vanishing for long enough for a deep hole to materialize around the team.

^Agreed, he passed for over 200 yds in just two of the six big games. Avg 25 attempts/per... The training wheels were on the whole time.

The Patriots game, Sanchez really stepped up. Without his effort, the Jets lose. The other 3 he did not play a big part, but did what had to be done. Easily could have blown any of those games, but he didn't. If you ever watch the playoffs, you will see many mistakes which doom teams. He did not make them. He did not make them in either championship game either. Both losses were on the defense, in my honest opinion.

David Garrard led a game-winning drive under two mins @PIT in the playoffs. Lets see what he can do for us.

Small sample size and anyone can have a good game every now and then. You can garner 4 or 6 game samples through out most of Sanchez's career and make him look average. But, if your using a QB rating, especally the normal one most people refer to, is that it's a severely flawed measure. One game in a 6 game sample can really boost a quarterback rating.

No one has ever said that Mark Can't have good games, or hasn't had good games, the problem is for every good game he plays he puts up 5 or 6 horrible or mediocre games.

Agreed. Plenty of seemingly great qb's have cost their teams games. See the early years of Peyton Manning where he couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with a football once the playoffs came along. But if Sanchez can't elevate the players around him to the point where they make the playoffs to begin with what does it matter? The 2009 and 2010 had unbelievably good talent around Sanchez. Mainly one of the best O-lines I have ever seen play the game and a great trio of receivers in Braylon, Tone and Cotch.

But therein lies the problem. He relies on the players around him to make him better, not the other way around. A franchise QB makes the players around him great. Mark has shown that he can't do that. We cannot hold onto those AFCCG's in 09 and 10 because I don't believe the Jets will ever have that level of talent around their QB again.

To further illustrate how misleading the QB rating is, in his 6 playoff appearances he threw for fewer than 1200 yards, aka not even averaging 200 yards a game. In fact he only had two games where he threw for as many as 200 yards. In 6 playoff games he accounted for more than 2 TD's once fewer than 2 TD's 3 times.

So lets see, mark never threw more than 3 TD's in any Playoff game, and only did that once. Threw 2 TD's twice, 1 TD in two games, and 0 TD's in the other. so he was moving the ball for the running game to score? Nope. again, fewer than 200 yards gained in 4 of 6 playoff games (and barely broke 100 yards in one of them).
The two games he did throw for more than 200 yards the club lost...the games where he made his lowest contributions the team won. Yet somehow magically it was Sanchez that "won" the games. The only game that you can argue that Sanchez won for the Jets in the post season would be the 2010 game vs the Pats where he trew his only 3 TD game and accounted for 21 of the 28 points scored by the Jets.

You can argue perception all you want, but at the end of the day numbers don't lie
