I believe you're wrong. I think they're already moving on. If the Jets are tied to the hips with Sanchez then the team is going down because it's hard to swim with a dead weight on your hips.
Do you mean the straight downward trajectory that he showed during the 2011 season when Tebow was a Denver Bronco? Or the even worse trajectory last year when he was playing and Tebow was on the bench? The point remains the same. Tebow wasn't, isn't and will never be the problem here. He's not the starting QB, Sanchez is. Sanchez was awful the last 2 years. Hopefully he's on the bench this year or gone so the Jets can get back to winning time.
His last three starts were really bad but the his numbers in the NE game where pretty good but he did not bounce back from the butt fumble very well. He was playing with one arm tied behind his back with the injuries at receiver and Sparano calling plays. It is not like Mccelroy or Tebow lit it up when they were in there.
Believe me I don't think Tebow or Mcelroy are starting caliber QBs either. But at the very least starting them in a meaningful game would A) Possibly light a fire under Sanchez' ass, letting him know that shitty work will not be tolerated even if the guys under you are worse and B) It lets you know if Tebow/Mcelroy can handle live bullets as the backup QB going forward in the event of an injury to the starter. Playing them once the season is over or putting them in at half to manage a game doesn't really tell you much. The QB position is such a mental position you can't really tell how a guy will do until there is something real at stake.
Bottom line is he's an awful QB. It's pointless to debate the numbers and provide detail when it doesn't change the fact that as the leader of the offense and team (QB) Sanchez has struggled mightily. And for clarity they didn't even give Tebow a chance to throw the damn ball so noone knows what he would've done. All 3 of them are below average QB's and none of them are the long term answer for this team. However at least give the other guys a shot when you've already seen the one guy can't get the job done. Let's see what potentially Garrard and hopefully another new QB bring to the position.
Any rational Jet fan should be hoping that you're right. Sanchez started turning the ball over the minute he stepped on the field, and he still hasn't stopped four years later. People who think he'll suddenly become a good steward of the football are living in a dream world. He is what he is ... a guy who just doesn't get it, and constantly puts his team in bad spots with nervous play and idiotic decisions. Virtually impossible to win that way. Even with the best defense and best running game in the league we couldn't overcome having him as our QB ... and we won't have either one of those assets next season ... or probably anytime soon.
If they bring in 2 FA QB's like they say they will, AND end up drafting a QB, then i think you are correct with Sanchez being axed.. Would be really ironic if it were Garrard, Moore, and a rookie in a QB competition again.. Not ideal, but it would show me Idzik is using this year as more than just a cap clean year.
any rational Jet fan would hope Mark turns it around, that would be the best for our franchise. we lost the 2009 championship Game b/c of mark? he blew a double digit lead? he couldn't run the ball after Greene went down? interesting to know and in 2010 we had an average run game and up and down D yet were even better. Whoever the next QB is he's going to be the next guy Jet "fans" run out of town in a few years. We truly have the worst fanbase in sports.
2009 and 2010 are ancient history as far as the current team is concerned. Also any reasonable and rational fan would hope that the Jets turn the page from Sanchez as he has clearly shown that he is not capable of even being a decent starting QB in the NFL. And the theory about Jets fans wanting to run every QB we've had out of town isn't true. I distinctly remember people backing Vinny even after he had the injury. You never heard the majority of the fanbase screaming for his job because people were rational and reasonable enough to realize that WHEN HEALTHY Vinny was a very capable QB. However with Sanchez it's a completely different situation. You can't blame his shitty play on injuries rather on his shortcomings as a QB. So smart Jets fans who want to see this team rebuild and reload have every reason to not want to back Sanchez because of his awful play on the field. Not sure why you have such a blind faith commitment towards a shitty QB. Maybe you're related to him or something? If you really wanted this team and franchise to get better then you would be all for making a change at QB as he's the main reason our offense sucks.
I've been on the board since 2001, everyone wanted Vinny gone, everyone wanted Chad gone and now everyone wants mark gone. In 2-3 years everyone will want whoever the next QB is gone. It's not blind faith, it's hard to win in January. We have a QB who has sown he can win in January but fans want a better fantasy QB maybe a Schaub/Rivers type that puts up "great" #s and is terrible in January. The best chance for the Jets to succeed this year and in the future is to get Sanchez back to normal but whiny fans have given up on him already and want to start the search for the next QB. It's hard to find QBs in this league and we want to throw one out who has talent and shown us he can win. We could have had Joe Montana in his prime and he's not winning w/ Chaz Schilens as a starting WR.
The version of the Coryell and Erhardt-Perkins, were the absolute worst. Schottenheimer's version of the Coryell wasn't the same version that was ran back when Fouts was running the offense for the Chargers. It was some BS hybrid version that hasn't worked at all. Even with Favre and Chad at the helms Sparano's "Erhardt-Perkins" was just a bunch of paint thrown against the wall. Can't tell you what that was. Not even Sparano understood it.
It's not about fantasy numbers. It's all about wins I agree. So with that in mind Sanchez is not winning now either and he has to take the heat for that as the starting QB. The team and offense has completely regressed during his tenure as the starter. We don't need a Montana. However we do need a good, top 12-15 NFL QB. Mark is nowhere near that now. He's in the bottom 5 in the league and I'm sure the stats back that up in most categories. You don't just keep giving a guy like that more chances. The team can vastly improve even this year if we just have solid QB play. We need to find someone who can give us that. The only reason he's still on the team is because of the cap hit that the francise takes if we release him. You're in the vast minority of people who think he deserves another chance.
He's not winning now b/c he hasn't had much help recently. W/ talent around him he can win, w/ Kerley, Schilens, gates, Cumberland, reuland as his main weapons he can't win.
He is getting paid 17 Million. He is supposed to make the talent around him better. He is the worse one of all of them. He is not good and it is time to end yet another sad era in NY QB history.
Not many QBs make the players around them better. Brady Manning Brees Rodgers that's it. All other QBs require actual talent around them. He'll get one more go this year more than likely. Time to suck it up kiddo
avg per game in Pitt: 3.9 recs, 63.9 yds, .33 TDs avg per game in NY: 3.8 recs, , 52.3 yds, .47 TDs almost identical recs, slight edge Pitt in yds, slight edge NY in TDs. He's the same player here that he was in Pitt.
He had Hines Ward playing on the other end. Holmes was never the true #1 WR. Brayton and Keller played pretty well with Sanchez.
Idzik hinted that Tebow may stick around for the QB competion or(battle of the scrubs) i hope this is just Idzik leading teams on who may want to sign him as a free agent to try n force a trade,if so its a good move by him
