1) Sanchez is his own worse critic... probably he wasn't in the best mood of his life after being shut out. 2) Imagine if you were asked 24/7 to sign stuff and be the face of a franchise... it must get very tiring. Anyone of us would find the time to sign a football to a kid... but signing thousands!?
Wow the excuses on this board are sad...A star QB, "leader", and role model who blows off a little kid shouldn't get a free pass. I don't think it's much of a stretch of the imagination that Sanchez is a cocky douche given some things we've all seen from him before.
I honestly don't understand how [most of] you people justify Sanchez's actions. He's getting paid 10,000,000 dollars to play football! If he's going to be the "face of our franchise" then he should act as a role-model for the children -- he should not slam the door on a child's face just because he's pissed off that he sucked! I did not "break in" to the players parking and honestly most of these replies were just plain immature. Whatever, I guess, just wanted to shed light on the guy we're all rooting for and idolizing but it seems most of the posters on this site are more concerned on being "clever" or "witty".
That's what you get on a board full of kids...all they care about is on the football field, real world means nothing apparently. Overwhelming aura of the board seems to have a 15 year olds view on the world imo, it's getting pretty annoying.
"Idolizing" a professional athlete is a silly. Nobody idolizes actors, but athletes are supposed to be pillars of society, somehow. They are entertainers, pure and simple. So Sanchez may not be 100% a great guy every waking moment of his life, what am I gonna do, give my jersey back? Root for Kellen Clemens?
So you're saying you didn't idolize an athlete when you were a kid? What were you, a freakin tap dancer or something? Pretty safe to say the large majority of youth idolizes some athlete to some degree. Players are expected to be role models, no way around it. If that wasn't the case, Goodell wouldn't give a shit about what players do off the field. Edit: Oh, and nobody idolizes actors? You're kidding, right? You mean to tell me there's no little girls idolizing Miley Cyrus?
Were you authorized to be in the players parking lot? Maybe they've been taught to drive away if any fans approach them there to avoid trouble? Maybe he was smoking a joint and didn't want a little kid to see it? Maybe he had to take a monster shit and didn't have time to talk to a fan? There could be any number of reasons for him to take off that way, your response is awfully assuming.
No, lol, not a tap dancer. Sure, I wanted to be a pro athlete. But I didn't really consider whether or not I would oblige 100% of all autograph requests when I was in my backyard at bat with 2 outs and the bases loaded in the bottom on the ninth. Miley Cyrus is a bad example, she's supposed to be g-rated and family friendly, her whole career is entertaining little kids and teenagers. The rules are a little different when your target audience is 18 and under. I don't know anyone's kid who wants to be like Mel Gibson or Charlie Sheen when he grows up. Goodell can do whatever he wants to cultivate the image of the NFL player, that should have no bearing on parenting whatsover.
1. Yes, I was allowed to be in the players parking lot 2. My son approached many other players and they were very kind and gave out autographs 3. He was sitting in his car for a while doing nothing and at that very moment my son came RIGHT THEN he pulled up his windows and drove away. There's nothing else to it -- I know we all want our quarterback to be some saint but what I witnessed yesterday was truly sickening and afterwards my son took off his Sanchez jersey and said he's never wearing it again.
Sheen and Gibson's demographics aren't exactly comprised of little kids though. Professional sports do, so not really sure how Gibson and Sheen are relevant. They also aren't as accessible as athletes are to kids. The average 11 year old doesn't exactly pay much attention to tabloids... Okay idolize may not be the right word, but I'm sure you had a favorite athlete, had his poster on your wall, his sport cards, looked up to him etc etc. Call it what you want. And what your thoughts on obliging to autographs when you were a little kid in your backyard are irrelevant, not sure how that compares to a 20 something year old professional athlete.
It's one thing to blow off a 30 year old dude asking for an autograph who could easily just be looking to sell it and make a buck off your name, but it's another to blow off a little kid like that...
I agree. And I'll even go out on a limb. This story flat out pisses me off. I'll catch a lot of flak over this, but it says a lot about the level of maturity (or lack thereof) when a sports celebrity does shit like this. We're not talking a crowd of hundreds of people assaulting you, we're talking about one kid approaching your car window. I've seen this before and gotten autographs for my son over the years, and I always appreciated the ones who were unselfish and thoughtful enough and I always disrespected the ones who blew off little kids. Adults i one thing and kids are another. I know I'll catch hell over this opinion. It sounds like it wouldn't have taken much for El Guapo to sign something real quick and then roll up his window and take off. If he was pissed over the game, that's not the kid's fault. You fucking man up and tune it out and sign the fucking autograph. I wasn't there though, so who knows...
^^completely agree. Absolutely right in it being just 1 person and not a mob of people. We're talking about literally <15 seconds to grab whatever there is to sign, a pen, sign, and maybe toss even just a half assed smile to the kid. Don't even need to ask his name to personalize it or give a little message, just 2 words that don't even have to be legible for 1 kid and that would go a longer way than he could imagine. Hell, I remember when I got an autograph from a retired Islander from their cup teams on a notepad piece of paper when I was a kid, and I didn't even know who the guy was, and I was ecstatic to say the least. These little things go a long way.
that sucks raidersuck, its a shame too because now the kid has to find someone else to follow. it could be a good opportunity to explain to him that these guys are not always the guys to idolize. follow them sure, root for them, sure. but dont worship them as if they are gods. as usual the children are all over a thread about their beloved sancheese. some on the board although they are 30 to 60 years old are children and will act like children at all times. they also tend to act like kids and gang up on posters. this is just the way it is around here, nobody will fix it. trust me... they will warn YOU for being a troll if you try to bring attention to the childish behaviour of the members. which is sad as this site was such a high quality place 7 or 8 years ago. dont sweat em they just like to laugh at eachother.
