From an outsiders perspective, if the Jets just ask Brunell to manage the team like they do with Sanchez, they can live with him for a couple of weeks. He's not a bad QB.
Where is everyone getting 2 weeks to heal a torn cartilage? I'll put this in perspective, it takes over a week for a scab to heal, a cartilage carries weight and moves, does that sound like something that will mend a few days after a cut? I'm with sitting Sanchez. Start Brunell, and hope the D steps up.
It's not torn. It's a tear, a tear that is still not confirmed by the Jets. Multiple Dr.'s on NFL radio and espn have said based on reports this usually takes 10-14 days. A scab is external, stupid analogy. Your tongue heals in hours.
I think I understand why so many around are ready to jump off ledges all the time with stuff like this now. I spent a few hours in the car listening to the NY sports talk radio idiots today. ALL of them are such freaking alarmists that it is insane. I could barely handle two hours of that crap. Anyone who has spent years listening to that stuff is bound to have their mind warped by it at some point.
Fucking A, I completely agree. I'm back home now and I've been driving around a lot, and I decided to put the sports radio on the other day while I was taking a ride.. It was disgusting how inaccurate some of the shit was that they were spewing out, it was hard to bare. I felt the FAN was a bit better in their analysis even though it still sucked. 1050 was fucking murder.
The Jets arent admitting he has a tear yet? WTF are we worried about? This is probably a rumor started by disgruntled Steelers fans.
No he's not a liar. But its not up to him whether he starts or not. If it makes sense to let him rest for a week then that is what the team should do regardless of what Sanchez wants to do.
Doctor here. Let me just say, I don't think a cartilage tear is something to get real worked up about. If it was a ligament or some kind of rotator cuff problem, yes that would be concerning. But a cartilage thing just takes some time of rest to get over. It heals very quickly. Here's the thing though...this is the kind of injury where they need to decide NOW whether they want to be safe and let him not throw for 5-7 days and heal completely, or let him go. If they let him go, he will probably have some pain for the next 2-3 weeks, but his arm WILL be fully mobile. It will just be painful. Its not like a rotator cuff where the mobility is compromised. Its just pain. And if there's one thing I definitely know about Mark from watching him, its that he CAN take the pain. He's a tough kid.
In a situation such as this where alarmists are going off and people who aren't in the know are overreacting all over the place, some info on the type of injury Sanchez has from an actual doctor is sorely needed. Great input. I say we shut him down, let him start resuming throws next Wednesday, and see where he is from then. We may not even need him at that point if we win Sunday or get some help.
OK....a few questions: (1) Is the pain an indication that something more serious can develop, like a full tear ? (2) How much is the pain indicative of a loss of arm strength ? If he has pain and his strength is at 98%, I'd say it's a question of just playing with pain. If he has pain and his arm strength is at 90%, then I'd say the pain is indicative of a more serious problem. (3) Can he exacerbate it by throwing the ball 100-150 times in the next few days or is the thing to look out for just another hit to the shoulder ? (4) Would they consider using cortisone ? Can they protect the shoulder with extra padding ?
Awesome. I've been praying this is not a rotator cuff situation, because if it is he's fucked. If it is just some cartilage, I have no problem sitting him for the Bears game. Go kick the Bills ass in the last game of the season.
Not necessarily. Drew Brees completely fucked up his shoulder during his last season in San Diego and he bounced back. I'm hoping this is a minor injury though.
True, Drew had the torn labrum with the rotator shit after it. Ill admit I'm fighting Pennington thoughts because Sanchez is my QB. I don't want any major injuries to his arm. I can't stomach the thought of his career taking a downturn because of shit like this. But since I read the doctors feel this injury is very minor I'm winning the fight against those thoughts. I don't see this being a problem beyond this season.
