Who is talking Canton? I'm talking about 1 shitty drive dismissing 2 mediocre drives by Clemens. Nothing more, nothing less. Did you like what you saw from Kellen?
I'm glad he did well and all, but it would be interesting to see the Sanchez comments on here compared to the same people dismissing Brett Ratliff last year for doing essentially the same thing but twice. For the record I like what I saw from both guys and I'm glad we got Sanchez. Hopefully he's the real deal.
Guys. I was reminded of one thing as I was watching the Saints game. I've been told that, Brian Schottenheimer was actually instrumental in making the QBs (Drew Brees and Phillip Rivers) what they are now. In other words, Clemens is in the same boat that the Ghost is in. If Brian cannot really mold Clemens into the starting QB material in 4 years, that has to tell you something, no? (If you are so quick to label the Ghost as bust, then I have to question how you can still back up Clemens.) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- That aside, I still believe this year has to go to Clemens. (I have my own reasons for it)
I have been pretty skeptical about starting Sanchez out of the gate, and I will continue to until we see a lot more of him in the preseason. But I don't see anyone chiseling a bust of him for Canton. What we need is a cool-headed QB who can manage a game and recognize the outlets available to him... and who shows accuracy and poise in the pocket. For those things, it's hard not to score it 'Sanchez - 1 Clemens - 0' at this point. I don't think anyone expects him to be Peyton Manning. But if we have as good a defense as we had during the first 2 drives on Friday night (without Kris Jenkins, BTW), I will have trouble arguing that Sanchez won't be able to do it.
I thought I would re-introduce myself in my namesake's thread. Longtime lurker, registered here in 2004, but have new e-mail and such. Jet Fan for 30 + years. I live and die with this team as most of you guys do. Looking forward to new year, new QB, and no prevent D. Sanchez looked pretty good but did you guys happen to catch Matthew Stafford playing against the falcons? Stafford looked really sharp. Sanchez and Stafford will have this freindly competition this season kinda like Matt Ryan and Joe Flacco last season. Stafford has all the physical tools to play in the NFL but Sanchez has the "IT" factor. Gonna be great watching both guys this season!
What part of it are you having trouble understanding? That Young and Rodgers were waiting behind two of the greatest QBs of all time to leave or that Clemens wasn't?
I'm not gonna go crazy w/ hype about his reads, arm strength/accuracy or any of that stuff. There are too many factors within that to really judge on 4 passing attempts..especially in the preseason. What I was very impressed by was the way he carried himself. He seemed to have great command of the offense and does appear to have that "It" factor. Hopefully this leads to good things long term.
no....that waiting on the bench has no correlation of how well a QB is going to play when they get the chance. Differenct QBs ...different outcomes.
At bare minimum yes he does have presence. I don't think he has an overly strong arm or anything, but I just want a guy that make them think 20 yards down the field is possible, so the underneath stuff stands a chance. That being said, I do believe his reads were pretty good, and his accuracy was just pretty good as well.
This is perhaps the worst response I've ever seen on this messageboard. Congratulations! You spoke in absolutes: Did Aaron Rodgers and Steve Young not spend the same number of seasons on the bench as Kellen Clemens? Therefore, shouldn't your rule be applied to them? You didn't say "That's what happens when you have spent too long on the bench behind an average but not spectacular QB", nor can you change the argument after the fact to suit exceptions to your "rule".
