Matt was injured for a few games, and his running game suffered when Turner was out. When that team was healthy they did pretty well. Still finished 9-7.. first time the franchise ever had winning back to back seasons.
Yeagh, but a lot of people expected Matt Ryan to take another huge leap forward (pro bowl or better) after his rookie of the year season. If you ask me, he didn't look as "cool" in the pocket as he did as a rookie.
I would add that their number two WR, Jenkins, missed time as well. Just a bad season for the Falcons, but they still finished 9-7
Obviously work on decision making in general, I think this post season showed he can be clutch. One thing I thought he needed to work on was his timing and touch with his receivers. I noticed lots of his picks were usually in the vicinity of the receiver but he had a tendency to overthrow or underthrow leading to the pick
I agree with the assessment but would offer the reason for some timing issues. Number one being the constant flux the WR corps was early in the year. Number two being a rookie. Number three being once they went to a run first offense, he could no longer get into the flow of a game, not even any dump off passes to get going. I would think with a year under his belt and the return of Leon, plus LT, will give him more options, and make him more comfortable.
let me add another thing. in the immortal words of public enemy DONT BELIEVE THE HYPE!!!! there is just too much hype about how great he is right now and i hope to god he doesnt start believing he is as good as many jets fans say he is. if he does he is destined to fail, please please dont believe the hype!!!
Fuck the Pro Bowl. Popularity ain't shit. You can't go near it if you're a QB and hurt unless your name is Manning or Brady. If your talking about him not looking good against the Jets, he was facing Rex's Defense without Turner. With no running game the Falcons offense doesn't move... not many offenses do.
Dude, after the playoff performances - against 3 teams with pro bowl QBs, better records, and on the road..... how can we not believe the hype?!?!?!?! It was as sexy as Rex himself.
He has been nothing but a consummate professional this offseason(minus one photograph of him smoking). Why should we expect that just because the fans and media are getting excited this offseason that he is suddenly going to stop working with Schottenheimer or his receivers? Sounds more like a SOJF worry than a legit concern.
I do like the idea of keeping the playbook conservative, at least at the beginning of the season. Make Sanchez earn the rights to open up the playbook by proving he can successfully run the plays he has at his disposal.
Be that as it may, people expected the Falcons to be in the playoffs and possibly be in Super Bowl contention. I see more than just Jets football, dude...
