The biggest area Sanchez needs to focus on is his reads, particularly up the seams. He got picked by safeties a lot last year and did not seem to be mentally accounting for people who HAD to be out there somewhere. He needs to locate the safeties on the throws 20 yards down the field because they're definitely watching him. He also has a bit of Brett Favre disease, throwing balls into very small windows because he has the arm to pull it off. The problem is that when he's off just a little bit or something happens with the receiver he's going to get picked a lot. He needs to do a better job of figuring out when he has to take those chances (like with the pass to Keller on the goal-line) and when to just dump it off or chuck it away.
When he feels pressure closing in not to feel balsy and Brett favre the ball into a shitload of opposing jerseys, An slide when running (UNLESS WE NEED THE 1ST) Do that and he should be alot better.
His deep ball is very good.. Matter of fact he is fairly accurate on everything... Mainly just read the defense, and hit your check down when he needs too. If you do have to run Mark, none of that shit you pulled in Tennessee.. Thanks
Keeping his composure when we are down and not walking around the bench like a child who got his candy taken away. Execution.
Other than just pure experience I think he needs just a little more touch on checkdowns swing routes, etc...
not having to alternating practice reps with clemens will do wonders for wonder boy. it's 'his team' now.
Bearing in mind he had 16 starts at USC, his learning curve and what Hes achieved so far is WAY past my expectation already. What really impressed me, was after his mid-season blip, how he came back from it and into the playoffs. Adjusting the plays helped, but when it mattered, he stepped up. If he can replicate how much he learnt last season, we will truley have the QB that this franchise has yearned for , hopefully for years to come.
I honestly think that all Sanchez needs is experience. He has made some unbelievable throws in the regular season and the playoffs and many of his mistakes were down to him being a rookie. He can't just work on his inexperience, of course. There's no substitute for game time. No matter how much studying he packs in he will still make mistakes under pressure in his second year, but we will see the mistakes decrease as each season goes by. He could be an elite quarterback in two or three more seasons.
Gotta remember, over half of his interceptions came in 3 games. Aside from those games, he had a very solid rookie season. That said, as others have mentioned, he needs to get better on his reads and he just needs experience. I'm very excited for him.
bag that. No running whatsoever. The Coaching staff should have him spend the entire regular season with a 'No running except to save your life' rule. They need to make him play like (I hate to say it) Manning for 16 games and then let him go back to trying to run around like Steve Young.
he needs to reel in his gunslinger mindset a bit. watching him play it was pretty obvious that it was the first time in his life he couldn't get away with any throw at any time he wanted. he has all the talent in the world and the only thing that can really hold him back is himself and the decision making. this issue seemed to disappear late in the year when he finally started to realize sometimes it's best to take the sack or throw the ball away and live to fight on the next down.
Simply ball security for Sanchez and not forcing throws into double coverage. As long as he keeps the momentum that he displayed during the playoffs going, the JETS will be flying high.
Pretty much everything that's been said so far. I hate to say it because it'll probably come back to bite me in the ass but I think Sanchez will have a VERY good season -- probowl calibre even.
Don't jinx him. Ever heard of a sophomore slump? It killed Matt Ryan last season when everyone was high on the Falcons with the addition of Tony G. Thankfully, our team isn't predicated on the offense. We should be fine.
