The last thing on the Jets upgrade list right now is another CB. We need help along both lines, a pass-rushing OLB, potentially a wide receiver with Coles starting to look fragile and frazzled, another big tightend to help against the humongous teams that are tending to dominate the league at the moment, potentially another safety with Erik Coleman finally having played his way out of a job and even another QB to create competition at the most important position on the field. CB? Like RB it's a piece you add when you have the basics covered.
Not at all. I knew all the problems we had last year and the pissy schedule too. That's why I was so flabbergasted when we wasted half our draft on a CB and spent 20 million dollars on a RB. If we had used those picks and free agency to fix those problems then maybe it would make sense now to be talking about spending the money to bring in Samuel now. There is always somebody out there you can get when you need them. Instead we have Revis signed to what, a 40 million dollar contract? You know he will be cut long before he ever sees that money. So what was the point?
if assante was available in like two years i'd get him. we have to rebuild first. assante and revis do sound like a good tandum but there's deeper issues we need to address which i believe we will. 05 and 07 are two years i never want to think of again. but everybody is pretty much on the same page. build the o line and the d line and everything will fall into place. we already have a runningback, the jury is still out on the qb but i like him. we got recievers, remember stuckey comes back next year to play with smith, cotch and hopefully coles. harris is a beast. let's pick up a olb in free agency. I even like how elam has been playing in the safety position. I dont think cb is a option we want to go into right now. but like i said once all the more important positions have been filled, then it's a go. FYI: WE SOOOO DID NOT WASTE A DRAFT PICK ON REVIS OR HARRIS. both are going to be key players for many years to come: gpc:
maybe the idea would be feasible if we play man on the outs and play a goaline defense all game.........ha,ha,ha! i still say that our trading up to get revis and harris is potentially a bad move for the long term. so what if they both go to pro-bowls every year and have hall of fame careers. if we dont acknowledge the fact that our problem is elsewhere we are just walking in quick sand. besides, the quicker they become pro-bowlers the sooner they will walk out of town for more money, just like our beloved wide-out coles.we didnt need two players in last years draft, we needed multiple people in multiple locations. dont count bender or stuckey, they were both projects or reaches.
doesn?t make sense, stuckey showed, that he could be a solid WR and Bender is a beast in the runninggame. If they develope the way we hope, they?re gona be starters for us, if not, you we just cut them, that the way the late rounds work.
Guess U are not up on the Bender news. According to EM Bender has shown zero during practices which is the reason he has not been activated
usually draftees get 3 years, till they get evaluated, and we knew bender was a project who can?t pass block, when we drafted him. you just can?t pick on our FO for a project second Day pick after half a season. there?s a reason y we gave him a 4-year contract. and if he?s a bust, who cares we took a shot that didn?t work out. If stucky gets a viable 3rd WR, and bender gets cut, we had a good second day 2007.
I agree the lines are a priority, and 40 million seems ridiculous, but if they can make the money work, we can still take Dorsey with our top 5 pick and with our 2nd pick we can get a pass rushing LB for this 3-4. Then you've got the rest of the draft to beef up the guards spots. I wasn't in favor of the CB last year, I wanted them to finish off the offensive line. But now that they've made the pick and Revis seems to be the real deal, I would like them to try and complete at least one portion of their team.
Also with out any type of pass rush a receiver can still probably get open on Samuel after 9 or 10 minutes in the pocket.
One thing you have to consider about the pats is that they are going to most likely (althogh they'll probably trade down) be picking in the top 10 this year because they have teh 49ers pick. That means they're going to have to prepare to pay a salary consistent with that high of a pick. They've been picking in the bottom 5 of the first round and signing lower contracts with small amounts of signing bonuses. This could mean they might not be able to retain samuel. It's yet to be seen whether he wants to take a paycut to remain with the pats, or hit the market where he knows he could get more then nate clements (who is good, but I think samuel is better). I doubt the jets make a move on him anyway, because woody seems to have his pockets glued shut.
good god, the homerism is in full blume today. samuel is being talked about as an elite corner and probably is, but to say revis will be better is laughable. it's very rare for a player to reach the elite level. chances of revis making it that high are slim at best. just being a very good corner is quite an achievement. this bold statement reminds me of all the clowns that were saying this jets team was a 11-5 or 12-4 just three short months ago. and i laughed my a$$ off over those predictions... you need to take a closer look at this jets team and actually watch the games........
besides, i think mangini goes the less cheaper route and tries to sign randall gay...... he's actually a solid corner if he stays healthy.
This is the truth. I don't care how great your corners are, in the NFL, if you can't pressure the QB, the corners won't look that great. can only hang with a receiver for so long.
