All of those things have happened to every team that hasn't won a superbowl in the last 30 years. That's why they haven't won a superbowl. SOJ is not unique in any way besides the fact that you were emotionally invested in it.
i don't know what your perspective is exactly..........emotional investment or not there are unique circumstances that the Jets and the fans have dealt with.........it's just simply not the same as other franchises that have dealt with SB futility. Some of the Jets blunders, miscues, misfortunes are infamous. I even think there was a documentary on ESPN last year dedicated to the folly.
Well, okay. I respect what you are saying. We can agree to disagree (although I think there is a lot of common ground between us), especially if you insist on being rational about it!! Don't get me wrong. I'm always pulling for the Jets to win, and I still go to work with "Jet Voice" the day after a game. I'm all for Rex and his confidence, and his go for it on 4th down approach. I think it's great. I really do. It's just that in the back of my mind . . . . . . well, you know. It's all been said. :shit:
The Jets blunders are under a much larger microscope than any other team that has gone this long without a superbowl. Just because the NY media needs something to write about doesn't make a difference to me. Can you imagine the shit we would see about the Jets if they had the Lions draft history? The Jets are simply one of many franchises that has made many crippling mistakes throughout the years.
I understand exactly where your coming from. I have these same conversations with my dad everytime the Jets are on. I can't tell you how many texts I got from him Monday night saying that the field goals were gonna cost the Jets the game.
In response to what I bolded, I don't think that is a fair statement. There are some other teams with more "same old" moments than the Jets. I am busy watching my young son right now, but after he goes to bed, I'll list "same old" moments for one of the teams that I believe has more "same old" moments in its history than do the Jets. "Same Old Jets" is a way to say that the Jets have been snakebitten. The NFL Network did one of their top 10 shows on this issue. The Jets made the list at either #8 or #9.
Oh yes you do. You need for them to win it. Nothing erases the SOJ except a SB win now... nothing. We don't need no stinkin' Denver AFC game, ahead at the half and then lose. No... no. SOJ again. We need to be in the Superbowl and then we need to win it. Nothing short of that eradicates SOJ, otherwise all of you "SOJ is Dead" proponents are just blowing it out your ass. 4-1 and right away SOJ is dead. It's laughable, really.
I don't know if you were referring to the New York Jets Complete History DVD or not, but it captures the whole story pretty well: For some ridiculous reason, I need certain number of posts before I can put up a URL. It's at: amazon dot com /NFL-History-New-York-Jets/dp/B000PY52DQ/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1287010674&sr=8-2 (a little too much of Fireman Ed if you ask me) The Gang Green book is very good, too: amazon dot com /Gang-Green-Irreverent-Thirty-Eight-Thirty-Seven/dp/0684841150/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1287011036&sr=1-1
Okay. A team wearing Jets jerseys just beat the Broncos. Who are these guys, and what have they done with my Jets???
Agreed. SOJ will die when we win the SB. Jets history would allow us to be 15-1, then lose our first playoff game. This year is going a long way to kill the SOJ theory, but we are still a long way off.
This win, the Miami win, the Lowery pick last week......until the next time. THIS TEAM IS DIFFERENT. THIS COACH WON'T ALLOW IT.
On his postgame interview just now, Sanchez said how, (paraphrasing here), "there is no doubt in my mind that we would have lost this game last season." His maturity level has been amazing to see in less than a years time.
SOJ took a body blow yesterday, no doubt, but it's not dead yet. Not by a long shot. Not until No 6 takes the final knee. All of this recent excitement and success can just be part of SOJ's greater plan to build up hope to dizzing heights before it once again delivers its crushing blow. This is the way SOJ works. It may be weakening, but it is still a monster. It's bigger than all of us. Time will tell.
On the face of it, this team does not look anything like SOJ. But on the face it, neither did the 10-1 team. I dunno, but since the Jets have not even lost an SB since winning SB III, would an appearance and a loss in the SB this year mean SOJ is dead? Would that be enough? Interesting philosophical question, but imo the focus needs to be on one game at a time. One game at a time right now, SOJ at worst is merely dormant. What would we be saying if Holmes and not been interfered with, and somehow had not made the catch either? I don't know about that, either, but I would no tbe surprised if some here would have called a loss SOJ.
I know the tone of this post is in a benign manner, but people think like this and I think its fucking retarded. Its like their all waiting for godzilla to wreck the city, no matter how good it gets. SOJF are the bane of my existence as a Jets fan. The fucking Chargers have it off worse than the Jets do. They've had real franchise QBs, not the blue collar champs that Jets fans think were so great. Those QBs could never win it all, and they played in more meaningful games.
The last gasps of SoJ were the Vinny Injury and the Chad injuries. Rookie Rex taking a Rookie QB to Indy last year was the final spike. Truth be told, we've been pretty f*ng Decent since Parcells came here. (And better since he stopped drafting lol)... Anyone whose memory does not predate the Parcells era, should not even be taking about SoJ.
