I hear you, and I totally agree with you, but you have to remember that it is a product of many years of conditioning. You don't just make that go away with a snap of the finger. And I can understand why you find all the negativity annoying, too. It's kind of like when I had to listen to my dad's stories of the Great Depression = = > "But Dad. It's over. Get over it. You don't have to shove newspapers in your shoes anymore!!"
Fuck my shoe? Fuck my shoe?? Both of 'em? That's pretty fucking funny. Obnoxious, but funny!! You're right, of course, but being a fan sometimes means that you're going to be irrational once in a while. As the saying goes, fan is short for fanatic. Right? How many people mope around until Wednesday because their team lost on Sunday? How many people think they made the Jets lose because they didn't wear their Vinny jersey on game day? Believe me I have friends who think like this. After decades of dumb shit happening at the worst time, you only care about your team. You really don't care if the same thing happened to the Browns or the 9ers or the Jaguars. Eff them - and their shoes!!
Indeed. Anyone remember 10 -1 that became 10-6 and a second round playoff loss? (Memorable loss too). Like I said before, SOJ dies at the Broadway SB victory parade.
Can you imagine if the Jets lost the Super Bowl the way the Cards did two years ago? Holy shit, people would be slashing their wrists.
SOJ is dead as long as Ryan is the coach and that is why they should sign him to a 15 year extension as my son says. That doesn't mean they are going to win 10 super bows or even one. It means the attitude of everybody involved has changed and players from other teams actually are begging to come here and play for them. If you don't think that means SOJ is dead then you really haven't been paying attention.
haha, seriously, that is the oldest continuous football franchise there is and their history is a billion times worse than the Jets'.
Yeah they moved so many times that they probably have zero fans from when they were in there 1st city so the most recent fans in the desert are only 20/30 years old
I think that is the SOJ haters problem here. The Jets history of losing isn't unique. Every team has lost games in ridiculous and heartbreaking fashion. I give you guys credit for cataloging them so nicely with the fun names and everything but they still aren't unique.
What makes them unique to us is the fact that they are our disappointments. They almost always happened at times when our ordinary, average, mediocre team was about to take the next step, and they did something stupid - and it was almost always something stupid. Sure, the Bills lost 4 Super Bowls, and Scott Norwood missed wide right. How many times did the Steelers under Cowher get knocked out in the playoffs? How many 15-1 teams lost their first playoff game? I'm sure the fans in those cities feel the same way, but that doesn't matter to us, because what happened to us happened to us. A car accident is just another car accident, unless it was your car accident.
+1 I've said it a lot on this forum - Rex is the Jet's Bill Cowher. And it took Bill Cowher 7+ years to win his first SB. The coaching carousel for this team is laughable. Now we have a coach that inspires the team and the fanbase. I will stand by Rex even through the 4-12 seasons. He is worth keeping for a long time. Since 1998 the Jets have been to the playoffs 7 times. That's only 5 years missed in a 12 year span. That's much better than a lot of other teams. That means the Jets are contenders. The Colts are a 10+ win team every year for the last 7 years and only have 1 SB, granted it was only 4 years ago. But the fans are happy cause they always have a chance to be in the big dance. Bills: 4 SB appearances - 0 wins. Would you trade with them? Not me. SOJ is a state of mind by the fans. Every team has heartbreak moments.
Just an example of how the Jets really are not the SOJ, I think it starts all the way at the top, with Tanny. Ever notice how many other teams are waiving and cutting 3rd & 4th rounders? And to think of some of the trades where we've fleeced them(Tone for a 5th)! We have done an awesome job with the draft these last few years, and there is no reason to believe that the combo of Rex and Tanny will not keep producing for as long as they are together.
I get you and understand your arguing for the personal involvement you have all had in the Jets losing. I understand that your not gonna change your stance on it. This SOJ is something I refuse to be a part of because I believe that we are looking at a roster that can be tweaked on a yearly basis and stay in the championship hunt for as long as we have Sanchez. The great equalizer in the NFL is a franchise QB and now that we have finally found that it is time to stop worrying about how the Jets are gonna lose and start looking at how they are gonna win.
i beg to differ - its not ONLY the losing that personifies the "same old jets"......its many, many other things that when combined give u the spectrum of the SOJ. - coaching sagas (holtz, walton, carroll, kotite, bellichek, edwards) - the draft blunders and busts - the epic games - some good, some not so good - "giants stadium" these are a few quickies so there are plenty of other losing and less fortunate teams out there but if u take the whole ball of history with this franchise u see why the SOJ theme will exist until they win the big one. jil
SOJ may never die and here's why. As good as he's been Nick Folk will miss a game winning fg in the playoffs. It will be Doug Brien part 2 *shudders*. Why couldn't we have just kept Nugent.
yes i think most of us from the SOJ generation are hardened, cautious, and always expecting the other shoe to drop. Sure it's not always fun when you're the younger more optimistic type, but we've seen too much. Yes, many other teams have similar history, but ours is unique. The only problem I have with the "SOJ" fans like myself, it when that sometimes overwhelmingly negative feeling permeates the crowd noise at a home game. I haven't been to a game this year, but at the old Stadium you could always hear the collective doubt/groans & moans of the darksiders and those of us always expecting the worst when there was adversity in the game. The Patriots game last year was one of the only games I've been too personally where i didn't hear that for even a second at a game. But i digress, the attitude for me goes away with a Super Bowl appearance......i don't even know if I need them to win it.
THE CARDINALS ARE NOW O-64 IN BRINGING A CHAMPIONSHIP TO THE RACINE/CHICAGO/ST. LOUIS/PHOENIX/GLENDALE AREA OR TO SAY IT ANOTHER WAY MUCH WORSE THAN THE SOJs
