Sure they do but look at it's easy to see why the Jets are the SOJ.. Start with the Heidi game to the Mud Bowl to the Fake Spike to Vinny in 99 to Belli to Tom Brady to Doug Brien. That's just the tip man....
All I'm saying is go talk to a browns fan or a lions fan. They can give you a list like this too. The Jets are not special in regards to having shit not go their way. The Jets fan base just happens to be larger and in a bigger media market.
Jesus, now we should lower the bar to that level and take solace that we're not them? No thank you. Blow my brains out now. And I know of what I speak, because there were times when the SOJ WERE the Browns and the Lions and the recent Raiders all rolled into one. What Champ is saying is, the SOJ curse doesn't go away until the clock hits 00:00 in February. Until then it's still all talk and bullshit. Win the big one and we'll talk about the death of the SOJ. Some of you think this thing is easy to kill. It's not. We're talking decades. A 4-1 start is child's play to exhorsizing this demon. The SOJ Demon scoffs at and ridicules the very notion that 4-1 gets rid of him. He gets off on this sort of tease. Anyone who thinks differently about The Demon is an inexperienced, naive, Jets Fan Base virgin.
All I'm saying is that you guys are bat shit crazy with your curses and whatever else you want to blame what happens during a football game on.
Good teams find a way.. May not be pretty, but a WIN IS A WIN. I'm as "SOJ" as it gets, and when Minny came back and when it was 22-20, I was pacing back, and forth, didn't want anyone to talk to me.. But that win felt great, not good, GREAT.
Bat shit crazy is saying the SOJ are dead when we're 4-1. Show me the Vince Lombardi Trophy in a glass case in Florham Park, NJ and I'll tell you SOJ is finally dead.
The Heidi game? How is that "Same Old Jets"? First of all, that came in the 9th year of the franchise's existence. At that time there wasn't much heartbreak that had been built up. Secondly, the Raiders scored a touchdown to go up 36-32 in what was a seesaw affair. At that point, nothing "Same Old Jets" had occurred. Then the Jets fumbled the ensuing kickoff and the Raiders scored on the play. It wasn't that outrageous. Third, and most importantly, the Jets went on to defeat the Raiders in the AFL Championship Game that season and then won the Super Bowl. There was nothing "Same Old Jets" about any game during that 1968 season.
What you need to know is that the Jets found a way to finish the game, the best teams in the league find ways win and close games. The Jets did that, was it our best win of the year, probably not. But we found a way to win which is all you can ask for
Vikings and Eagles have it worse than us. When I started to follow the rest of the NFL, I realized the Jets are not cursed but just a really mediocre franchise. There is a giant difference.
SOJ is dead, it's only Alive in the fans that have a morbid view on life. One nice thing about the new stadium is I haven't heard that chanted once. It's Darwinism, they will die off.
I was just having this discussion with some guys at work. You are 100% right. I've been there for all of it. All of it. They build up our hopes, just so they can smash them like a cigarette butt. You're right too. We are totally crazy. I don't know how far back you go, but you sound like you know the history. You know what's happened over the years. I've lived through every minute of it with these guys. I am always waiting for the other shoe to drop. You're right. Only one team gets to win each year. That means that something bad happens to every team but one every year. That's the logical, rational side of it. But the Jets are our team. We're invested. Every time they look good, we get our hopes up. Every time they've gotten our hopes up since 1969, something crazy happens. I'll watch every minute of every game, and I'm really psyched about how good they look, but I agree with S227 R5 - the SOJ won't end for me until Sanchez takes the last knee in February.
I'm 22 and I grew up listening to my dad tell me all about how the Jets just always found a unique way to lose. When all I watched was Jets games I actually believed him. Eventually I figured out the reason that every time a reverse worked against them my dad would say "that would only work against the Jets" was because at the time all he watched was Jets games. I'm glad you can admit that this SOJ crap is just irrational self loathing by Jets fans but it's still annoying to the rest of us.
SOJ is just a media created excuse for a mediocre franchise that was never good enough to win it all. They've had odd losses, but so have a dozen other teams in much more meaningful games. SOJ is a selfish cry for some sadistic "I-told-you-so" fan because no one wants to believe this team has a chance and is always ready to duck and cover at signs of success because they are scared shitless of "the other shoe to drop." Fuck your shoe. Both of them. In fact, get yourself a pair of clown shoes. I will never think its all going to hell. I will never think this team is cursed. I will never believe its all going to come crashing down. If the Jets lose, its because they weren't good enough. There is no SOJ. Only SOJF who are so scared of this franchises past that they aren't ready for the new future.
That's the problem with the fanbase, but its not something that can be blamed on anyone. I don't expect every fan to be knowledgeable about other franchises and their history, but SOJ is a fishbowl mentality. Like nothing bizarre has ever happened to other teams. Same old Vikings, Cardinals, Lions, Browns, Eagles, etc. They all have it worse. True SOJ is winning 6-9 games every year and never improving. SOJ is being an irrelevant franchise. You know who is the new SOJ team in the NFL? The Houston Texans. Every time they're ready to break out, they lay an egg. Its time to change the Culture. Grow a pair and believe in this new era of Jets football.
nah , it be dead. i was at fake spike game and watched every game since 84... its different this time.. QB, Coach, GM, O-Line, Special Teams, New Stadium this is the New Jets.. to me, the nail in SOJ coffin was Keller TD @ SD playoff 09 :breakdance::grin:
Actually I would agree that it's much worse to be a Vikings or Bills fan. Both have had amazing QB's and great defenses lead them to SB appearances but came up short 4 times. Throw in that in my lifetime the Vikings have lost 3 NFC Title Games including what may have been the best offensive team in history at home to a mediocre Atlanta team. They had one of Favre's worst career games in the title game last year. They also failed on a last minute drive to lose to Washington in 87.
