I'm all for calling junc out on his posts but this isn't the issue to do it with... I like A Rod... I'm glad he's doing what he's doing now... I just wish he'd have done it in past post seasons... as much as it pains me to say it... junc's not wrong on this one
16 games, 56 Abs spanning 4 different postseasons is more than a handful of games. 2004 I have never held against him b/c the whole time went in the tank. I add in those 3 games b/c it shows a longer pattern of falure but I can look past that series. I can't for the next 3. I don't have to put words in your mouth, w/ what you are arguing you are doing it for yourself. You are backing this guy like he had a bad game or 2. Big games in October mean more than hitting a big HR in June. No it's not ALL about ARod, I never said it was but he was the man most responsible for our awful postseasons as he did nothing and he's our best player. if Melky doesn't hit we can survive but when our best hitter can't hit it has a crippling effect on the lineup. ARod is the best offensive player we have, if he can't produce runs then we are in trouble. You try to make it look like ARod is just any, average player. he's just 1 of 25 but he's bigger than that. The burden to produce is not spread out over 25 guys, the better players have to come through more and he's our best player yet played like our worst player for years in october. I hate arguing this now as he's been great and we are on the doorstep of the WS. I wish we'd leave this alone for a boring offseason day.
Here's the thing... he's not wrong that A-Rod has sucked in the past. No one would deny that. The problem is (and always has been) that he always talked about it as though A-Rod's shitty past performance in a selected handful of games is a predictor of how he'd play in the future, that it was due to some internal "clutchiness" quality, and that he was single-handedly responsible for the Yanks' losses.
Thanks Ollie and as much as I love arguing I hate arguing about the past failures now. I loving every second of this postseason run and loving every secind of ARod playing as great as he is. I love wanting him to get up in a big spot instead of dreading it.
If you pay on player $200 + million and they do nothing in the playoffs they're going to take most of the responsibility... that's just life
I never said he's never be good in postseason, I always felt he neeeded that one breakthrough postseason andhe'd be fine from there. I even felt that after the PEDs admission came out he'd relax more. I don't know if that had something to do w/ it but clearly this is a different guy than the player we have seen in recent years.
No. It. Is. Not. We've covered this before, dude! You've admitted that - if it were Jeter who played poorly for 16 games - you wouldn't worry about it, because he's shown you he could do it before. Well, so had A-Rod. But you ignored those games. And now that he's doing it again, it should show you that, no, you don't judge 16 games as an accurate predictor of performance/talent. The fuck I am, dude. Just stop. Straw man, straw man, straw man. No shit, dude! Okay, it's obvious that you don't even bother to read what others write. Or, if you do, you don't bother to comprehend what they are saying.
